Buffalo = NPC?

(Fab) #1

I just read a preview of Quake Wars in this months edition of PC Gamer(uk) in it they claim that the Buffalo is a NPC vehicle that is used to bring you into battle instead of randomly spawning.

Here is the extract:

This troop transport is an NPC vehicle used to get respawning players into the thick of things. Quake wars doesnt dump you back at base and leave you to make your own way to the frontline, but nor do you magicaly pop out of nowhere at a spawn point. Its a neat trick to maximise the time you spend having fun without breaking imersion.

I cant remember reading this anywhere, has it been confirmed or are they speculating?

Nope, the Buffalo is an entirely drivable, flyable vee-hickle. Currently seats one pilot and four dudes in the back, with a nose turret and two door guns.

Some confusion, perhaps, with the Magog, the heeyooj NCP three-engined helicopter that delivers the heaviest deployables and suchlike.

Some tinkering may occur, but that’s how it is at present.

Thats good to hear thanks for the swift reply

(Etnies) #4

Imagine they would checked there information was correct before sending to print? naabs ^^

(Tom Francis) #5

The confusion was down to the fact that there is no pilotable flying transport in the unit list we were given a while back. I did e-mail Loki to check if anything had changed since, but didn’t hear back. I don’t know, sometimes I feel like Splash Damage and PC Gamer just don’t talk to each other anymore.

I had a great time playing it at E3 by the way, guys. I did horrible things to about five GDF guys with a metal spike on my arm, which is pretty much my definition of fun.

(Bongoboy) #6

Howdy, Tom.
PM me and we shall eliminate Error and Eevil.

(Joe999) #7

hey, mine too  in ET a decent backstab is what i enjoy the most. you ain’t got some vidz about it from E3, do you?

speaking of enjoying and five, you might want to take a look at that ET vid, Tom: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6629358309336422542

I should start up a new business. The slogan will be ‘Fab, bringing companies together’

Also Tom you coulda checked my site for all the latest confirmed news

It is interesting to see Strogg have pretty much no transport vehicles. Even more, they seem to have 1 vehicle less (!).

GDF:
Husky, Badger, Trojan, Anansi, Bufallo, Titan | wc -w
6

Strogg
Icarus, Hog, Desacrator, Hornet, Goliath | wc -w
5

So, do Strogg really have fewer vehicles, or is one vehicle still unannounced ? Something with mounted flamethrower, perhaps ?

(Fab) #10

Thats a good point id like to know this to.

(Bongoboy) #11

Thus far, yes, the Strogg have one fewer vehicles, and they can’t transport as many players in them. We hit them with the Asymmetry stick.

(B0rsuk) #12

At least give them one more map to compensate.

(Fab) #13

Asymmetry is one thing being unbalanced is another. How is this being handled, can the strogg spawn closer to the action?

(Wils) #14

Because they have one less vehicle? The asymmetry between the two teams runs a little deeper than that

(Fab) #15

Yeh i know :disgust: . What i wouldnt like to see is the GDF being able to show up in an area faster than the strogg and in greater numbers. Its not that they have one less vehicle its that they are lacking in transport thats the worry.

(kamikazee) #16

At least the Goliath is larger then most GDF thingies.

(Bongoboy) #17

Thus far, the playtests seem to be balancing out, and the teams seem to play nicely differently. Maybe it’s one of those things that works in practice but not in theory. We shall seeeee…

(kamikazee) #18

Are you posting from an echo pit or were you bashing on your keyboard? There are abnormally much vowels in that last word, y’know.

(taken) #19

I want to give you a hug.

(Fab) #20

I guess youd need to play it to see cough, chough, hint, hint
