Brink Whiners-Enough Already

(Nail) #61

Brink a clone of CoD ?

let’s see, CoD, based on idtech3 came out 2 years after RTCW’s proven success and it’s not a clone ?

geez, they even used the same engine

Every day that goes by, I get more and more disappointed with this game. I haven’t been whining at all yet (just registered on here today), but I am fast approaching that point. My gripes:

  1. Lag! Since this game was released, I have actually had TWO different internet connections: Verizon FIOS 25/25 and now Brighthouse 20/20. It lags on both. It’s not people’s connections. The netcode is garbage.

And SD’s solution to the problem? Limit the game to 4 vs. 4 matches. That is outrageous and completely unacceptable. If the box had said, “Features exciting 4 vs. 4 matches with up to 4 brain-damaged bots on each side,” I would not have bought it.

  1. Lack of feedback from the developers. They still have only barely acknowledged the existence of lag in the 360 version, and have not acknowledged any of the graphical issues pointed out by almost every reviewer.

  2. The graphics are terrible and aren’t anything like what we were shown in the previews. I can barely tell who is on what side or see character details, And I play 8 feet away from a 42" HD TV. The textures are muddy and pop-in is rampant, even after I installed to the HDD. Again, if I had known the graphics would be so poor, I would’ve skipped this completely.

  3. I’ve leveled up two characters to level 20 and I’m starting to wonder why I should keep playing. I have almost every achievement (except for the impossible challenges), there are no in-game challenges or medals to work towards, and there is no stat tracking. Frankly, the game is getting fairly boring, especially since each game on the whopping 8 maps tends to play out exactly the same each time.

  4. I feel like I’m wasting my time with this game when there are far better objective based shooters out there like Killzone 3, Battlefield, or even Monday Night Combat. Btw, MNC is a far better objective-based shooter, with better graphics, classes, and gameplay, and it only costs $15.

  5. The AI for the bots is terrible. Which wouldn’t bother me except that SD’s “fix” for the lag was to force 4 vs. 4 matches with bots. They’re so bad that they don’t even bother to buff you. The only thing they do well is revive you – provided they can survive long enough to reach you.

  6. Every objective boils down to piling more dudes on top of it than your opponent. There’s no reason to communicate with your team or use tactics. Just spawn, run to objective, kill, die, respawn. If you kill more and die less, you probably win.

  7. The classes all play the same, aside from a handful of specialized occasionally useful abilities (revive, turret, grenades/molotovs, and disguise/caltrops). Most of the buffs like Kevlar don’t even seem to do anything noticeable. Further, we were told we’d need to switch classes throughout the match to succeed, but the game makes it so your character, at best, can be proficient in only 2 of the 4 classes.

Even though I feel I’ve been deceived into buying this over the likes of LA Noire or Portal 2, I’m giving this game some time because it has potential. Hopefully with the patch I’ll be able to play in 8 vs. 8 player matches, which might change my opinion on some of the above, and maybe I’ll be able to live with the rest of my gripes. But I’m starting to lose my patience, as are many other 360 players, and the result is going to be a dead game with no community. And, like it or not, PC Gamers, if this game fails to do well on consoles, there will be no sequel. The FPS market is too competitive right now for do-overs.

At the very least, the devs need to communicate more with the community, acknowledge their mistakes, and keep us in the loop on what’s being done to fix them. I can’t tell you how angry it made me to read the Update on Updates post in which the only recognized Xbox issue was “lag being reported by some users.”

(Nail) #63

lol, devs have made 12 posts today, you’re the one out of the loop

(Bakercompany) #64

Well made post.

Yeah the objectives are just a constant zerg rush. Whoever throws the most bodies faster wins.

Improvise, Adapt, Overcome

(sohei kuma) #66

What were they about? Didn’t see them as stickies or blog posts, so I’m expected to search every thread on this board.

And yes, I am “out of the loop.” Doesn’t that prove my point? SD is making no effort to reach out to the average disgruntled consumer and convince me why I should keep this game or ever buy another SD game.

(Nail) #67

That’s not their job, that’s Bethesda’s job, but THEY seem quite happy keeping all info away from THEIR customers, they have 1 employee posting and usually a day late and very vague, they got your cash. Tell them you want active dialogue, they have the staff to do it, they just don’t seem to be bothered

(sohei kuma) #68

Hmm. Well, Brink is SD’s game and if it doesn’t sell well, it won’t be Bethesda that will suffer. It would be in their best interests to communicate with their customers even if it is “not their job.” As it stands, I will never again pre-order an SD game or buy it without reading reviews first. That’s bad for them, since game live and die by pre-orders these days.

(Thundermuffin) #69

It’s pretty hard to improvise, adapt, or overcome when your frame rate isn’t stable at all, your whole screen is a mess of purple (which that’s actually a mild case of it, every dark map with lots of black is insanely bad because even the players become purple too), and all of the problems the game creates on its own. I have to raise my brightness on some levels because my screen is filled with that purple haze, yet on certain parts of the level my crosshair is gone because I’m looking at a bright white dot on a bright white wall. It’s like I’m playing hardcore TDM on CoD when that happens.

(sohei kuma) #70

Also hard to do when you’re stuck to the floor and can’t move, shoot, or turn.

(.FROST.) #71

“Whine”??? You are a funny guy. I can’t even play the game longer than 2 minutes, before its starting to freeze. And yes, I’ve tried everything. 5 or 6 very different drivers and hotfixes, everytime I’ve cleaned my system in safe mode from the fragments of the preceding driver. I lowered the resolution, even though I’m of the opinion, that Brink should run smoothly on my sys with almost full settings and resolution. And it is running, as long as it is running. But than it suddenly freezes. Zero frames. Is it really whining when I’m conveying my dislike over this “unable to play longer than 2 consecutive minutes” situation???

I loved Brink at launch, but the community online just feels cold.

With no way at all to communicate in game on ps3, the experience feels strangely disembodied and slightly sterile at times.

There you go. Another thought in my head I was unable to put on paper.

Agreed, and I’m on Xbox. In my case, I think its because of all the bots. I actually rejoice when I’m killed by an actual human being. I always check the name of my killer to see if he’s a real person.

Not sure how you play, but I have no problem with comm. coordination.

I’ve switched as needed. It’s fun to do so, another way to gain xp, and since everyone’s new to the game, not all classes will be used at first.

Even though I feel I’ve been deceived into buying this over the likes of LA Noire or Portal 2, I’m giving this game some time because it has potential. 1. They are addressing the issue. How successful they’ll be remains to be seen.

  2. Valid point

  3. Either they have or have not acknowledged the lag issue on the 360 version. You cannot barely ackowledge something. Which is it? And what graphic issues. The graphics work fine to me on both console versions.

  4. No problems on 32’ nor smaller 27’ screens. Admittedly, I wear glasses, but I can tell who’s who. Given that an Operative can desguise himself as the enemy, this may be a moot point. Still, generally no problems graphically for me.

  5. Yes, this is an xp lover’s nightmare-no more xp hounds to hunt?! God forbid! Maybe some of us play for the teamplay coordination…?

  6. Ok, so you’re moving on to other games? Like Killzone 3 or BBC2? Better Objective games? No, they are not. They are just different. And all of the issues you’ve noted aboyut Brink have been represented in BBC2 and Killzone 2/3.

  7. I’ve switched as needed. It’s fun to do so, another way to gain xp, and since everyone’s new to the game, not all classes will be used at first.

  8. No one deceived you. This wasn’t satan tricking you to hell. If you weren’t sure, you should’ve waited and rented first.

  9. Which do you want them to do more: fix the bugs or nurture you wuth kind words of support?

And, btw, bots are dumb in most games which use them, as in Killzone 2/3 for example.

(Bakercompany) #76

Me too. Bot kills are just annoying. Player kills at least give you a drive for revenge

But if I get killed by Thomas, or David, it means less.

This is very true. Even in Gears 3 which is an amazing game, the bots are purple crayons.

Sometimes they just unload an entire clip into a wall for no reason…and they always die throwing smoke grenades like they’re frags.

  1. I don’t see the contradiction you are seeing. They have not acknowledged the graphical issues. There are, in fact, such issues. Check the tech support forum. There’s a laundry list.

  2. See above.

  3. Yes, but it’s boring. Every game is the same and there is no goal to accomplish beyond pile up at the objective. As for grinding – I actually feel this game forced me to grind more than others because I had to get 2 characters to level 20.

  4. Um, I didn’t say I was moving on to other games. And no, the issues in Brink are not present in those games. I have never had a single laggy match in KZ3 and the game is beautiful.

  5. Actually, I was deceived. The videos of gameplay footage do not resemble the actual game at all. There are lots of threads on this. Plus, I thought I was buying an 8 vs. 8 multiplayer game. But in fact I got a 4 vs. 4 game with bots. That is the definition of deception.

  6. They can’t do both?

Killzone’s bots actually do the objectives. So in that sense, they are far less dumb than Brinks.

(H0RSE) #79

It’s obviously not broken, since many people play it every night.
Does it have flaws? Yes. Is it “broken?” No.

(fearlessfox) #80

Let’s see now…
