Brink Whiners-Enough Already

just a little too emotional about a game, it ain’t a girlfriend that broke your heart, just software that doesn’t work correctly for everyone

advertising is just that, an enticement to buy

The only thing we’re ‘hating on’ (awful American saying) is the fact it pretty much fell short of everything we were lead to believe.

Seamless offline/online play? That’s because it’s all the same.

SMART movement system? Not overly amazing (people abuse slide spam on light bodies for a start)

Classes? Everyone can equip the same guns, body types feel badly implemented.

Customisation? It’s alright, but the way they advertised it made it seem like there would be hundreds of outfits. As for guns the arsenal is a bit small probably in favour of their idea of overly balanced gameplay.

Graphics are also a huge point, the GPU useage is fairly screwed up and there are memory leaks so most people can’t achieve the potential quality shown to us in previews.

I do Love Brink, I like the story and art style as well as the somewhat limited customisation. As most reviews have said Brink has a lot of potential but it’s a few patches away from achieving it, nevermind DLC they need to fix it.

Game is trying to get me to dislike it. Im waiting for any kind of fix to this nonsense.

It was me being metaphorical for fun, Nail… I wouldn’t expect you to understand the concept of fun. Perhaps when you graduate beyond two sentence responses and sarcastic defense you’ll learn to appreciate these things?

And as much as advertising is an enticement to buy, it’s also an unspoken promise from the developer to the customer. Some developers live up to their advertisements, while others fail miserably. Splash Damage’s name is now an ironic representation of their promise hurting their reputation. I will /never/ pre-order one of their products based on their previews again.

Regardless of what any of you say, the game advertised by SD is not the game we got. This happens a lot, sure, but there was something about SD that made a lot of people stand up and take notice.

I thought they were different.
Basically.

Before launch, Brink was a potential “threat” to many peoples beloved FPS games. Now that it launched with problems (no matter how big or small) players take comfort in bashing it. It gives them peace ridiculing something that had them on edge all these months.
I think you have got a bit muddled here…

There was no feeling of ‘potential threat’ that you are trying to describe here. The die hard COD/BFBC2 players did not care about an objective based FPS and don’t care about the ‘competition’, they are quite happy playing their game until a new update comes out. Most were probably unaware (or didn’t even care) that Brink was even being released but might have checked it out if it got good reviews or a demo.

The people ‘bashing’ the game are the ones who bought into the hype and WANTED Brink to be a great gaming experience. They were aware (or should I say most) it was objective/team based and what to expect, watched the game play videos and thought the story and promise of a seamless on/off line experience exciting.

With this information in hand it kind of kill’s all the ‘go back to cod’ or ‘not playing the game the right way’ rubbish the fanboy’s copy and paste every time someone comes on the forum with a legitimate question or complaint.

The most vocal of these fanboy’s are some (not all by any stretch) members of this forum that have been following SD and Brink for years - therefore they are never going to admit the game is a ‘let down’ or ‘broken’ as it would be like saying they have wasted their time and won’t feel like the ‘special’ ones who know more than anyone else.

I can’t for the life of me understand why the members who love Brink the way it is care and moan so much about those that feel there are issues and come here ask questions or point out faults so they can get resolved, I would have thought they would too busy in game to notice (so what if some people want lobbies or different game modes, you don’t have to use them or play them even ‘if’ they ever got introduced so just let them ask and don’t get so worked up about it)?

The fact is the game has issues and even ‘broken’ for some of the population of players and until those issues are resolved people have a right to complain and spamming juvenile replies is not helping anyone. You guy’s are the ambassadors of Brink and SD (more so than ever as there is little in the way of meaningful communication coming from official sources) and should be leading the way not fuelling the flames!

Also to say Brink is a’ new IP’ for SD is not exactly true. Brink has a new story/setting (well I think there is a story in there somewhere but that’s another issue altogether) but this is SD’s third attempt at an objective based FPS and Brink has not progressed in any notable degree from their first attempt nearly ten years ago (which I still think is an amazing game btw).

On an off topic (not worth starting a new thread for), did SD ever announce to the community when they sent the game to be certified or when it went ‘gold’ as I can’t remember them ever posting this information?

Yep agreed. I do try to swap sides to keep games fair but you’re right, the vast majority of people don’t bother and to be fair to them,it takes ages to actually change teams, then you get to wait to spawn when you finally do. Well on the 360 at least.
