They’re a bomb that sends shrapnel everywhere. Hence why I said “sort of.” I don’t know how you would get through the day in real life with such nitpickery.
Brink weapons
My source is that it is not visible on the secondary weapon select screen.

If it were a medium weapon, In the first picture it would be visible next to the Mossington (as it is in the second), but it disappears along with all of the other heavy weapons.
Are you sure you linked the right pictures? I don’t see the Mossington or the Hammerdjeim in either picture. (Could just be that my brain isn’t fully functioning this early in the morning. [4:44 AM here.])
EDIT: Never mind. I was looking for the in-game names, not the real life designations. But the screens do give rise to another question in my mind:
Is it odd that the characer in the background is definitely not a Heavy and the game is showing Heavy weapons? Or am I reading too much into a pre-release, probably modified screenshot?
There are only two shotguns that i have seen in the game, the Mossington and the Hjammerdeim.
There is said to be a medium and a heavy shotgun.
The Hjammerdeim disappears from the weapon select screen along with the heavy weapons.
In demonstration builds, mediums were often able to wield heavy weapons.
Unless someone can explain otherwise, all signs point to the Hjammerdeim being a heavy weapon.
A little too ideal, if you ask me. “Oh man! A weapon whose only limitation is that it’s not that great from far away, coupled with the body type whose speciality is being up close!”
I don’t see how a light would be a better choice for extreme close quarter firefights (such as effective shotgun range) than any other weight, even with the speed advantage. Any advantage they would get from the ability to evade would be offset by the fewer amount of shot it would take to kill them.
It would depend on if the shots needed to kill him were balanced against his speed. If it only took 3 shots to kill him, but he moved at the speed of light…
There would also be the case of players building light characters build around using shotguns - Like boosting armor/health and damage as much as possible, through buffs and abilities.
Might be a silly question, but is there really next to no recoil on all the guns in BRINK?
Lights dictate the range at which the firefights take place. That’s also why the TF2 scout’s main weapon is a shot gun.
A small, sawed-off shotgun wouldn’t look bad on a light guy.
Yeah, pretty much none. Although I find it somewhat lame, I’m looking forward to that playing in my favor, having been accustomed to games where recoil is actually a factor.
I certainly won’t factor it in to my weapon choices as much as other stats. From what it looks like, an SMG in Brink suffers from less recoil than a highly accurate assault rifle in a game like say, Borderlands, which is the style of gunplay/recoil I am used to. In fact I’ll probably play that some leading up to Brink’s release in order to polish up a bit.
Footage never really gets the message across, tbh, so I’d reserve judgement to a certain extent. Footage almost always looks like there’s no recoil. But we’ll see how it plays out.
