I will be collecting in-game screenshots of as many weapons as I can below.

Assault Rifles (Medium)

Grenade Launchers

Machine Guns (Heavy)

Shotguns

Long Rifles (Light)

SMG (Light)

Pistols (Light Secondary)

Pre-Order Weapons

[ul]
[li]“Hockler” - MP7, made by Heckler-Koch[/li][li]“Caesar” - MP-412 REX (Revovler for EXport), made by IZHMECH[/li][/ul]

Please help out if you can find some of the information missing above; make corrections; or provide missing/useful screenshots, images, or links.

This is a community effort, and i have not gathered all of this information by myself. There have been many helpful comments from the Bethesda forum community, enough that attributing them all would take too long to list. If you have helped in any way (or even tried), you have my thanks.

Sorry if this or something similar has been posted before, I don’t come to the SD forums very often, but i thought the people here would be interested in the info i collected.

I’m sorry, but what is the point of all this? What you want to achieve?

(Seyu) #3

lol Why not?

Mostly to get an idea of what to expect out of the weapons. Sure, it doesn’t really mean anything and they can make the guns act any way they want, but I imagine that they chose weapons that acted the way they wanted not the other way around.

For example, the Gerund AR is based off of the m14, so it is likely a semi-auto weapon. Likewise the FRKN-3K may have the option to use 3-burst.

Many players are bummed that the game doesn’t have an AK-47 based weapon, but the Rokstedi (based on the SCAR H) will probably have a similar role, since it uses the same round.

The Hjammerdeim is likely has 8, 12, or even 16 shell magazine; which could help to explain why it is a Heavy Weapon. Its also possible that the larger magazines are an attachment.

The CARB-9 is actually based off of a civilian rifle rather than an SMG, so its reasonable to assume that it has better range than other SMGs. There’s also the fact that the term “Carbine” describes a rifle with a short barrel.

My inner gun nut speaking here, but the SCAR H and the AK-47 use two very different cartriges. The SCAR H uses the 7.62x51 NATO, which is a full rifle cartridge, while the AK-47 fires the shorter 7.62x39 assault rifle cartridge. These two cartridges were developed independently (one by NATO and one by the USSR).

Anyway, here’s a picture of the M4 thing:

There’s also a few shots of it in-game, but I can’t remember in which videos.

When the Scar-H was being prototyped, it was mentioned that it would have a conversion kit for 7.62x39.

You are probably right, but i was under the impression that the SCAR-Heavy was able to use the 7.62x39 cartridge in order to be able to the footprint low on special operations. If you were trying to sneak around in a country where the military uses AK-47s, then leaving NATO casings behind might clue some people in.

In a game with more health than most other games, the SCAR-Heavy (with its more powerful round) would still likely carry on the role that the AK-47 has in games with lesser health.

Also, thank you for the screenshot, ill add the link.

I could see the SCAR-H behaving similar to FAL and m14 in Black Ops, rather than the ak47.

If you look at the guns that inspired the guns in Brink, you can guess. The Gerund and Rockstedi are based on weapons that fire 7.62 Nato. The SCAR has a prototype conversion kit to 7.62x39, but that cartridge is an intermediate. The 7.62 Nato cartridge is is longer than the 7.62x39 and is more powerful. Rifles in this caliber are usually semi-auto because of the recoil of the more powerful cartridge.

The m4-type gun, the Famas type, and the SIG 550/1/2 are based on rifles that 5.56 Nato, which is a less-powerful round. These are typically burst or full auto weapons.

according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCAR-H , DoD website and arms control page 7.62x39 was strictly SOCOM-targeted version, which is canceled, but [very probably]will bought later[without attracting attention ;-]in “conversion kit” packages,2-3 years later.
“more powerful”/“less powerful” isn’t correct exaclt, cuz both bullet energy, AP rate/depth, presision, recoil, lethality range was part of actual infight-performance. and no, with M995 cartridge, 0.223 AR’s was had no point to compete with obsolete[for grunts usage] 7.62x51, except “designated marksman” FS, whiich is basicly employ [deep]M14 derrivatives in USMC and DMR in US Army.

I don’t see the point of equating these fictional guns to real life to figure out their roles. It would be more efficient to figure out the Brink weapons when the game is released. What will matter the most is how each variable (or strength bar) responds in play. The game uses “universal ammo” where everything is just a number. They probably don’t intermix with each other so each weapon has it’s own ammo pool to carry. The soldier just “passes” ammo out without differentiating which caliber it is. They did this in ET, the luger and MP40 didn’t share from the same ammo pool. So all we should care about is ‘damage, range, rate of fire, accuracy, stability, reload speed, equip speed’ and how those relate the weapons to each other.

I’m not saying it’s pointless to figure out which actual weapons inspired a mesh, just that those facts won’t mean you can take opinions from gun forums to decide how that weapon behaves or should behave. “This gun ‘B’ looks most inspired by the AK47 and the AK47 does this like this and ‘B’ doesn’t do that I think it should be patched to do that because of the AK47.” At that point it’s really all opinion for breaking balance to take away the game part of it to make it a simulator. I imagine this is why a lot of games make the guns fictional, because they know they’ll never appease every gun buff gamer out there. There will always be that niche who decides their favorite weapon is misrepresented in a video game. At that point though “it’s just a game” really has to be said. The meshes are for familiarity, what’s more important is the game play balance.

it’s not like there’s much more to do without any new info since forever, let the guys have some fun speculating.

(MatthiasK75) #13

in videos the gerund has been full auto i believe

(Ajax's Spear) #14

I suspect it’s partly due to typical new poster hazing.

Ironic but true. Point being what is new and exciting to a newb is old and boring to the vets.

(Shadowcat) #18

I figured as much, seemed a fair enough question to me though. Why DID i start the pet project? Mostly curiosity I suppose. Seems like many others are curious to find out as well though.

(1234567) #19

Oh wow. I was looking for the gun info. Thanks.

(DouglasDanger) #20

What is the Barrett? Cinna mentions it, but I don’t see it on the Brink wiki. And I don’t see it in the OP of this thread. It sounds like a really powerful light rifle, and it shares a name with huge anti-material rifle…
