Brink weapons
I don’t know. I think you are going for “it is fantasy” defense, but Borderlands’s weapons were very much inspired by guns. A two shot revolver is moronic. So is a pump action revolver rifle. Completely illogical.
It is fantasy. What else is there to say about it? The pump-action revolver thing has no bearing on the game other than visually, and two cylinder revolvers are part of the random weapon generation. Besides, it actually served a purpose in balancing the game; two shot revolvers gave a bonus to damage, where as the bigger cylinders were weaker. It added to play style options. Borderlands was intended to be an FPS/RPG. Not COD on Mars.

You can put a suppressor on shotguns! Awesome. You can see one in the new abilities trailer.

Thanks for being an elitist know-it-all jerk!

I just think it is a neat looking gun. There is no reason to get all elitist about your join date.

It is cool that you add all kinds of stuff to you guns. That pic of the Rhett that was floating around with the under-barrel launcher, suppressor, drum mag and scope was fun. I think I read somewhere that your equip speed slows down more and more with each thing you put on the gun, so there is a counter. It is nice to have the options rather than the devs telling you want you can do to your gun.

That shotgun has a silencer and a hud sight. Maybe Brink’s shotguns will have enough range that there is a reason to ADS with them.

I wonder what we can add to the minigun and the grenade launchers :>

… And can we add a grenade launcher attachment to our shotguns? :stuck_out_tongue:

Realistically, shotguns in most games have far too much spread. That’s part of their niche in video games these days though. If they made them realistic I’m not sure I would have as much fun with them.

If the range on shotguns was made to be further, than that would eliminate a lot of their drawback, so they would have to do less damage to compensate. I would rather have a gun that dominates if you manage to get your enemies in range, rather than a gun that has an advantage short range.

(DouglasDanger) #187

Yeah, combat takes place at… abbreviated ranges in most shooter games. I remember having some really long range shootouts back when I played Halo2, on that one map with the two forts in the middle of the big canyon, and not just sniper vs sniper fights…

Anyway, it will be interesting to see how Brink handles shotguns. Black Ops screwed them up.

Unfortunately we have a whole generation’s worth of people that got all of their knowledge of guns from video games. And while the immediate dispersal of the shot works for gaming, we know that in reality, while you do get a quicker and wider spread with a shorter barrel, the shot column of a standard straight-bore shotgun does not achieve typical “game-world” spread until it is a great deal away from the end of the barrel.

(tokamak) #189

It’s a simplification of all kinds of factors that push the shotgun in it’s niche.

Few minor changes

Removed the question mark from the ChainSAW, after a second look its pretty dead on. Only real differences are smaller holes in the barrel shroud, and SD moved the front grip to the bottom to make room for top rail attachments.

Changed “Short Rifles” to “Long Rifles”, since that’s what they are apparently being called now according to this article http://www.next-gen.biz/features/balancing-on-the-brink

Also, kudos to to folks over at the brink wiki for finding the roots of some of the names. Maximus appears to be named after the Maxim Machine Gun, and the Hjammerdiem from the Pancor Jackhammer shotgun along with the song “hammer time”. I am actually a fan of the Jackhammer, very cool looking, not sure why i didnt think of it myself.

So as it is, there are 4 completely missing names, and I still have no idea what the Rhett AR is named after.

(DouglasDanger) #191

The gun the Maximus is based is also called the Minimi

Well, the chainSAW is a weird thing, a coversion of the US version of the Minimi, called the m249…

Incorrect

The ChainSAW is based off of the Stoner 96 LMG

The still un-named LMG in brink is based off of the M249 Minimi, however.

Edit: heres the stoner 93 AKA “KAC LMG”

(DouglasDanger) #193

Hm. Oh well.

(Linsolv) #194

Looks like with this new footage we’ve got a name for the M4-like AR: Euston AR.

(Shadowcat) #195

Thanks for the heads up, putting it in now.

(Blaskeeto) #196

How about a game that actually allows you to hold the gun in your left hand for once, I would really like that, even for an update or whatever if its not in it

(Shadowcat) #197

Ive seen it done before. Usually, if its an option, it just mirrors the weapon to the other side, nothing too difficult to program.

(LyndonL) #198

Pfft, you lefties are smarter and live longer… why would we give you MORE stuff?

(Bullveyr) #199

How about a compromise, just put it in the middle, good old Doom-Style.
