Brink rivals

(Nail) #81

don’t know if smart is just a console friendly thing, the movement ability transcends platforms imo, obviously it makes a bigger difference on consoles, but it should help PC players just as well

(Cankor) #82

SMART would work well for indoor areas of ETQW maps.

(Nail) #83

a stack of crates would make smart work anywhere

(Cankor) #84

As far as rivals, I think “Close Range” might give some of those other games a run for their money, but Brink will edge it out.

(engiebenjy) #85

I played the Bulletstorm demo yesterday, the first thing I thought of when i hurdled some rock and slid into some guys legs - was this is kinda like brink. I then noticed that I had to click a button before my character would hurdle!

It was alright though, nothing special

Finally, on Volcano, I would be able to jump into the duct leading to the first objective from the crates in the middle room.

SMART is made for me, I can’t trick jump to save my life. I can’t even jump across the bridge on Valley :frowning:

(Slade05) #87

Youre not alone here, I think I never was able to make that jump over the concrete fence on Volcano from the first try, and they say its the easiest one.

(murka) #88

You mean jumps like these? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvawlVUcbsU

Actually, there is a certain feel-good moment to trickjumping. You get to do something that takes time to learn. While it’s really not important that you can specifically press x and y button at these specific times, it’s all about a non-linear learning curve that goes to infinity.
I’d be happy if they figured something new that you could perfect as a skill such as aiming or trickjumping. A learning curve that goes to infinity will let people play the game for thousands of hours while still learning new stuff.

+1 on sig murka

Joystiqjust posted the announcement that EA’s Dead Space 2 is outselling the original by “two-to-one”. I think that is a solid example of how difficult it is to sell a new IP, and simultaneously, how well a sequel can sell. Though I haven’t played either game, from what I have read, the first was outstanding, and the second has just properly followed with the same high quality and expected enhancements. Hmm…

(Herandar) #91

Conversely, Borderlands.

(Kinjal) #92

L.A. Noire

Release date - May 17

The Witcher 2: Assassins Of Kings

Release date - May 17

Battlefield 3

“And though the third Battlefield title will arrive on launch day in Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 flavors, the game’s primary development platform is the PC. “We won’t make it for console and port it to PC – that’s not how we do things,” Bach says. “We’re focusing on PC first, and then we fiddle with it to fit it onto consoles.” Frankly, we wanna fiddle with it wherever it is.” - http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/08/battlefield-3-to-have-dedicated-servers-leading-on-pc/

(Seyu) #93

I’ll be getting The Witcher too.

EDIT: Anyway, those games (Duke Nukem’s on the 5th) won’t compete directly with as was the case last time with Quake Wars (Halo 3, CoD4, UT3). There doesn’t seem to be a better month than May to release a shooter.

(abrain) #94

I think L.A. Noire is a big rival for the console public, it`s a rockstar game that will sell big time.

(Seyu) #95

The shooter crowd doesn’t seem too enthusiastic about it.

(Herandar) #96

Sooo… Crysis 2 was leaked.

(madoule) #97

bummer ea, big bummer…
hope it doesn’t happen to SD(beth)…

(DarkangelUK) #98

I’ve no sympathy for them, they straight away blamed the PC community and piracy, when in fact the leak came from within their own company… had they at least had the dignity to hold their hand up and say “yeah, we messed up” then sure maybe, but to immediately point fingers else where is just typical of them.

(Herandar) #99

So, any disgruntled Splash Damage or Bethesda employees we should keep our eyes on?

(madoule) #100

god forbid! maybe some damn intern didn’t think twice.
i don’t get those guys, leaking stuff anyways. i would be truly honored to work for such a company. what does he do? he screws the company which pays him for doing the stuff he should love over…
