Brink rivals

(Kinjal) #1

After release of new video, there are big chances that Brink really comes out in spring. So we can talk about games that will give Brink a fight. Let’s look at each of them –

  1. Bulletstorm – the game is very close to Brink in a way of innovation. Brink “SMART” vs Bulletstorm “kill with skill”. People can fly studio, the creators of Painkiller. Multiplayer – mainly coop, no pvp.
  2. Homefront – game is oriented for US costumers, words like USA resistance is very strange for any non American I think. THQ, very well known developer, want to start a new title. Multiplayer – the mix of BC2 and COD, lots of players, lots of vehicles, helicopters, tanks, drones and kill streaks. Differences from other FPS games - Battle Points system.
  3. Duke Nukem Forever – I don’t think I need to tell anything about DNF, we all know the story. Exedore was one of the developers. Multiplayer – dark horse.
  4. Crysis 2 – the second part of crysis trilogy, the main thing - PS3, xbox versions of the game. Developer – Crytek, the owner of cryengine 3. Multiplayer – I think it will be close to original Crysis.

That’s the main enemies if u read a SVG preview, but –

Dead Space 2 – DS2 now have a multiplayer! It’s much like L4D, u can watch sum videos.
Killzone 3 – not a PC title but I saw a thread in off-topic section, I must agree sum multiplayer stuff really taken from ETQW.

Also there are FEAR 3, Portal 2 , BF play4free and others.

So, who will be the main rival for Brink in your opinion?

i cant see any of these titles effecting brink on the pc but for console there is some competition DS2, Killzone 3, Crysis 2, FEAR 3 all big titles and tbh all have had alot more public exposure than BRINK or should i say if i speak to a console gamer about brink there dont have a clue what im on about but if i mentioned any of the games above im sure there will know what i am going on about.

Maybe there will be a big marketing campaign yet to come for brink.

i dont really care about console tbh but it would be nice for splashdamage to have a big hit on all platforms.

killzone 3 will be the biggest rival in my opinion, i would have said crysis but i thought the first was crap

I heard some chavs on bus last night talk about KZ3 and DS2 so guess they are the console competition.

(MatthiasK75) #4

KZ3 will be a hugely popular game, but only for us PS3 peeps, (which im actually not all that interested in it) so with brink being for 2 other gaming platforms i dont see exclusives cutting into Brink’s sales as much. The main thing i worry with Brink is people just not knowing it exists

Let’s think about it from other perspectives…

Brink is an objective-oriented game which focuses so much on teamwork, and it doesn’t even allow Team Deathmatch/ Team Slayer modes. Teamwork’s the only one thing Brink lays all its focus on.

On the contrary, other games may have even more game modes ranging from pure killing TDM to other objective modes. Comprehensive they may seem, their concept of teamwrok will never defy how much Splash Damage values, because it’s sort of a distraction.

What do I mean by distraction? Since players are offered with tons of game modes, most of which pertain to killing-oriented, how cooperative/well coordinated do you think a bunch of strangers are willing/able to be with each other during a random match? (Unless you play it with your clan/team, all of you are well coordinated and have great team spirit)

Brink is different. Its mechanic lets you know what you should do to benefit the whole progress of the team, and the leveling system encourages everyone to complete the task instead of killing people.

I don’t think Splash Damage would say “Hey, do you like shooting people? Then you should play Brink!” Instead, it would be “Hey, do you like cooperating with people? Then you should play Brink!”

I don’t think games mentioned above are rivals of Brink, because it’s so pure, so different.

Wake up, Bulletstorm could rival only a turd in smelling real bad.
It will be the next Postal 2.

(Gogeku) #7

I honestly dont see any of the new games competing with Brink in terms of creativity and competitive potential, but I guess only time will tell.

Latest news – New COD:MW3 game , will be released in November 2011, Developers – Main: Infinity Ward; Support: Sledgehammer Games, Raven Software.

Duke Nukem Forever release date announced: 3 May in US, and 6 May Rest of the world

P.S. Better go for April SD its suicide to release Brink after DNF

(Slade05) #9

Youre pathetic in your doomsday predictions. Though, after watching DNF trailer I think Id still hit that.

Of course u do, u has a Duke Nukem caricature on your avatar….or maybe it’s your photo

Duke Nukem Forever:

Rated M for MANLY!

Hahaha

Suicide? That’s a bit much.

I’ve noticed the advertisements for Homefront have been a bit earlier out the door than most games, and they are sort of pressing the ‘controversial’ angle. It has had a dedicated panel on the Spotlight section of Xbox Live for at least a few days in the past month. I think THQ is putting a bit more than usual behind this game. I’m actually interested in the story, but it ultimately depends on the gameplay.

I’m already sick of hearing about Bulletstorm. The gameplay may be innovative, but it’s being aimed at overstimulated, undersexed 15 year old dudebros cranked on Mountain Dew and Taco Bell. In other words, the average XBox Live asshole. So it will probably sell tremendously well.

Killzone 3 is PS3 only, so it won’t really be competitive.

(Atavax) #13

i think its kinda silly to disregard killzone 3 as a “rival” simply because its a ps3 exclusive. SD obviously wants to do well on the PS3 and killzone 3 is probably their biggest competition on the PS3. DNF is probably going to be Brink’s largest competition in general. Both games traditionally appeal to PC gamers but are trying to branch out to the Consoles.

(Kinjal) #14

May be, but games about Duke Nukem don’t come out every day, its 12 years of waiting after all, we can ask Exedore about it, but I think its damn good, like Duke said “It should be” . I would say same thing for any game coming same time as Blizzard Diablo 3 too, no matter that genre. Any worse can be only release at same time as new COD.

About Bulletstorm – its old style shooter, no strong story line, just mature humor and a lot of blood, pure fan, yes there are no multiplayer pvp, but painkiller was same and it’s considered as the best FPS game of that year by many journals and game sites.

(Herandar) #15

I wasn’t disregarding KZ3 because it’s only on PS3. Well, it was only an expressed half-thought, so my bad. It will be a rival on PS3, obviously. But with the (larger) 360 & PC audience, it will not be an issue.

Games like DNF don’t come out everyday because it’s been 12 years. I just don’t get the feeling that DNF will be a huge blockbuster. It’s more of a freak show (because of it’s history) than a main attraction. I could be entirely wrong though. Rental huge, purchase… we’ll see.

(Herandar) #16

In case it wasn’t obvious, I’m console-oriented.

i don’t think Brink is going to be a huge blockbuster either… i know its only one site, but g4 was talking about their most anticipated games of 2011 and just about every shooter in this thread was mentioned except for Brink…

DNF probably has a much larger number of gamers that were fans of the previous games then Brink does and the nudity and gore that DNF has is going to appeal to a large range of tweens; i would be surprised if DNF didn’t outsell Brink.

(Herandar) #18

'Tweens weren’t even born when DNF started development… Hope the nine year olds of this world aren’t that obsessed with nudity and gore.

Also, I agree with the rest of your analysis. Though I do hope Brink does really well. And it does get people excited. First game I’ve pre-ordered in years.

From SVG article, posted by Maawdawg:
“UK developers Splash Damage are no stranger to bright ideas. The team behind huge hit Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, they were also behind the little-selling Quake Wars, which had a similar problem to Brink: its audience.

Released around the same time as Team Fortress 2 on PC and in the dead summertime season on consoles, the follow-up to Quake 4 was stuffed to bursting with brilliant ideas to facilitate team play and give campaign-like structure to multiplayer games.
However, hardly anyone played it. Brink beware.”

I’m not agreeing about all that he said, ETQW have a nice sells, and main rival was COD 4, but no rivals for Brink?

BTW I like how People can fly build a hype about their game, no day without a new video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylL-U0qFFZg&feature=player_embedded
