Brink rivals

(H0RSE) #21

It’s easy to not have rivals, for games that only released on PC.

(tokamak) #22

It’s a completely toxic and self-fulfilling mindset anyway. Brink is going to be their rival, and that’s that.

More news – Sony announced an open beta of Killzone 3 – February 3-15 2011 (release February 23)

EA announced beta test of Crysis 2 for gold members of x-box live – starting January 25, map “Skyline”, 2 game modes “Team Instant Action” and “Crash Site”(release March 22-25).

Crysis 2 multiplayer trailer just came out -

“invaders must die” again, and a bit of sliding.
'Tweens weren’t even born when DNF started development… Hope the nine year olds of this world aren’t that obsessed with nudity and gore.

Also, I agree with the rest of your analysis. Though I do hope Brink does really well. And it does get people excited. First game I’ve pre-ordered in years.
yes, tweens weren’t born when DNF started, that was my point, a lot of people that aren’t familiar with the franchise are going to be drawn to it because of the gore, humor, and nudity.

I think I’ll be ok with Brink being one of those sleeper hits that has a smaller but much more dedicated cult following. It just feels like it might be one of those kind of games, you know? The ones that not everybody drools over, but the ones that do enjoy it enjoy it a lot.

(xTriXxy) #26

ok, Brink’s rival? duke nukem or postal 3.

(light_sh4v0r) #27

New crysis looks great, including a smart-like feature and lots of cool abilities. Dunno what gamestyles they have though.

(tokamak) #28

The original Crysis multiplayer looked great on paper as well, nobody is playing it anymore.

(engiebenjy) #29

I would say Killzone 3 (PS3) will be big competition, with KZ3 players know what they are getting - and I would expect alot of preorders. There are alot of great games (alot of them sequels - so brink will need great reviews imo).

As for XBOX and PC Homefront looks to be the biggest competition there, a fps with a big multiplayer - someone already said this is a BFBC2 and COD mixture, which is something alot of players would want.

I played Crysis 1 mp, and I didnt like it all that much, but this Crysis 2 MP looks pretty sweet!
I played Crysis 1 mp, and I didnt like it all that much, but this Crysis 2 MP looks pretty sweet!
Crysis 2 multiplayer looks more or less like what Brink has. The general gunplay of CoD, as well as “skills” (whatever Crysis 2 is calling them, suit modifications?) as well as environmental interactivity (i.e. sliding, climbiing).

They are obviously different, but they’re similar enough and Crysis already has a following. You’ll have PC fans going for it for the graphics and “gotta try it” factor, PC gamers who want it for the console experience, console players who will want it because Crysis is on consoles, and console players who think “gotta try it”. Once they play that they may look at Brink and think “already played that.”

I don’t know how successful either game will be, but I think much like ET, much like STALKER and many other games - so far - it looks like it might get released without much of a bang. I mean hell, everyone knows about Crysis and Crysis 2, but ask people about Brink and they’ve never heard of it. The number 1 thing a multiplayer game needs is a community, and they’ve got to get out there and start getting Brink known; unless of course we’re still months and months away from release (in which case why so I keep seeing webs ads everywhere for it?).

(KnollDark) #32

Good games be comin this year, I’m personally keeping my radar on Homefront and Brink, I like Bulletstorm cuz it looks good but i’m nervous about the controversies that it will start being the point of killing someone will extreme skill and gore, pisses me off all the political correctness and **** will destroy gaming

(skf4) #33

I think KILLZONE3 and RESISTANCE3 will give Brink a run for it’s money

(Ajax's Spear) #34

Gearbox is developing it. They bought exclusive rights last year.

(-Badger-) #35

As for time consuming MP. I doubt anything will draw me out this year more than Brink. I am even hesitating on Homefront cuz I know It will get only like 2 months play till Brink is released then it will sit on the shelf. DNF will most likely have standard MP so I dont see it. CODMW3 will be in the fall, and have the activision Raven Curse(not to down on Raven but they havent had great success in the last decade; its been mediocre). Maybe RAGE might pull me away, but not for long. And most console games are off the Radar for me.

(Bagnol) #36

IMO…

Crysis 2 is a novelty, won’t last long.
KZ3 is PS3 exclusive, won’t have a huge impact.
Nobody’s going to buy Homefront on PC because the devs only care about the 360 version.
DNF is just going to be a nostalgia hit, won’t be played long.
Bulletstorm- same as Homefront and devs should stop using UE3.
DS2 I can’t really see being incredibly popular in MP.
BF Play 4 Free I can see being popular with people that normally play free games but not the rest of us.
Portal 2 is a campaign based game, probably not a lot of replay-value (except with custom maps of course)
Next CoD is too far off to tell.
Don’t know enough about F3AR, doubt it’ll be competition to Brink on the MP side of things.
RAGE, again seems to be a campaign based game so I don’t think it’ll be directly competing with Brink.

(Kinjal) #37

Trailers released about the same time -

Crysis 2 – 255k views

DNF – 1284k views

Brink – 47k views

(tokamak) #38

Brink is not really a trailer though, it’s video belonged in the series of developer diaries.

(BioSnark) #39

If it’s called a trailer…

Challenging new IP is challenging.
