Brink rivals

(tokamak) #41

Is it? I mean, everything on cgtrailers can be called a trailer. But it seems more a part of the blog.

My point is, Bethesda better not think that what they’re doing now is an advertisement campaign. It really is not.

Bethesda needs to throw its fame around more. Figure out some ways to tie it to ‘the producers of Fallout’.

Yes. If people see some video under the news header of trailer then it’s a trailer. The cinematic trailer (“brink - official trailer”) has the same number of views, anyway. Other than that, I agree with you. I don’t agree with exedore, however. There are a number of ‘big’ games going with new ip this year. I’m not particularly worried about them or Brink not being noticed.

I hope that it gets released soon so they can start working on Borderlands 2

(Kinjal) #44

It was released a year ago

For me, personally, the only real “rival” for my FPS time would be Battlefield 3, but it will be releasing late in 2011 (with my luck the same day as TES V: Skyrim) if at all in 2011.

Homefront, though it may very well appeal to many, has no real “teamplay” elements, therefore it doesn’t interest me. Cannot speak for the other games mentioned.

Breach, I guess.

(LyndonL) #47

Breach looks like it has some awesome concepts, but I don’t know if it’s polished enough to compete with the big titles.

(tokamak) #48

Breach looks like a tech-demo.

To me it seems that main competitors wouldn’t be the big budget cookie cutter fps’ but rather other games that play the ‘unique’ card, stuff like Red Orchestra 2.

(Apples) #51

It looks like a pale copy of a pale BC2…

(Kinjal) #52

Agree, i dont think its gona be rival for Brink

(tokamak) #53

That’s not fair. This game has actual structural damage due to physics. The damage to buildings in BC2 was just fake and caused by a bunch of triggers.

(Apples) #54

Was speaking about the look, not the technical neither the gameplay aspect of ze game

(LyndonL) #55

Any game that will make potential customers spend money on something else rather than Brink is a rival - That’s the AAA titles.

(beute) #56

AAA marketing driven titles will be brinks biggest rivals, that, and the problem that bethesdas own marketing for brink is pretty weak compared to other major titles.

Just for fun:

So my perspective is this. I’m buying Bulletstorm, DNF, Brink, Homefront, Portal 2 (maybe), and Rage (later). Maybe the new Section 8 game if there is a demo and they fix the stuff that I didn’t like.
I’m placing my bets on Brink but my insurance is Homefront even though the MP looks like CoD+Battlefield. TBH, I’m buying Homefront for the SP story and not the MP. I’m buying DNF and Bulletstorm just for something different. I really just want something new to play.

Going from what I experienced playing in the Killzone 3 beta in the fall, Brink is absolutely nothing like it. From the beta, KZ3 is a few slaps away from COD, let alone being close to a teamwork-intensive game like Brink.

We’ll see what the retail version of KZ3 brings, but I don’t anticipate very many changes. Other than KZ3, there is no other competition for Brink IMO, and I’ll be getting it on the PS3.

I’m good friends with the Lead Designer on BC2 and BF3, so can say without a doubt that nothing they do is triggered regarding destruction, it’s all systemic.
I’m good friends with the Lead Designer on BC2 and BF3, so can say without a doubt that nothing they do is triggered regarding destruction, it’s all systemic.
When I played the BC2 Beta - and I must admit that this is my only experience with the game - I just wasn’t impressed. I didn’t feel like explosions had any dynamic effects of the buildings, just that an explosion on the wall would cause a hole to appear.

As I said my experience of BC2 is extremely limited so anyway so I don’t have much room to comment, and even though Breach does look somewhat more technical/dynamic it also seems a little too easy to destroy the landscape. I watched a few videos and it seems like buildings end up ruined by single grenades making me wonder why would people hide in them in the first place?

But again having no experience with that I have little room to comment.

I’ll conclude by saying that neither game appeals to me anyway.

Waits not-so-patiently for BRINK
