Now I’m not a gambling man, but I bet that isn’t the final cover art…
Brink Q&A
I hope not. If I didn’t know anything about Brink that cover wouldn’t grab my attention enough to even pick it up to read the back of it.
Will Brink be released in September?
Because I found a link to this page from Brinkthegame.com:
http://www.gamestop.com/browse/search.aspx?N=0&Ntk=TitleKeyword&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntt=brink
The official release date is Fall 2010. Anything beyond that is speculation.
That’s a good question actually. We haven’t decided. What do you guys think?
Remove any stats system from the game, please ?
What kinf of handgun was used on the gameplay videos?
I thought that it looked like the M1911 handgun, and I started to wonder if it was that handgun.
Para Ordnance Warthog Pistol 45 ACP with an integral laser sight/flashlight.
Rahdo stated in another thread that Bethesda have been throwing around ideas for cover at, somehow a chap got hold of those and people seem to have taken it as gospel that that’s the final box… even tho its all concept.
Question time!
Youve spoken about how a players outfit can demonstrate a players ability or experience in the game. How does a new player know that the black leather trench-coat someone else is wearing, is indicative of their ability? Or is it as simple as seeing how much the item costs in XP in the game?
The reason I ask this is because I recently bought MW2, and noticed people had various callsigns and emblems. However the problem was - I had to use google to learn the significance of each one… I couldnt tell what a player needed to do to obtain the callsign / emblem in game.
It will likely just be: the more elaborate/impressive the clothing, the higher level the player is.
Of course there’s no stopping people from ‘underdressing’ themselves. Maybe the backpacks could reveal something as well, the bigger and modified the backpack, the higher the level.
In SH the astronaut suits start wearing out and get veteran paintjobs the longer you stay on a server.

I’m guessing that clothing and items will locked, but you will still be able to view them.
Like instead of the name of the locked outfit with a big “X” over it, you would still be able to actually see what it looks like, even though you couldn’t actually purchase it yet. Maybe it would be slightly faded out to let you know it was locked still. You would probably see what it looks like on your character. This way when you see outfits in-game, you know what is what and how much time and xp or whatever they cost.
Ah right understood. I don’t know if I would like that. It would ruin the mystique and fun of discovering new items a bit.
It’s way cooler to come across an item that you’ve never seen before than finding item #1827 in a catalogue.

I prefer knowing what I’m about to purchase, rather than have ‘mystery items.’ You don’t order items out of a catalog just by picking a number. There is a picture and description next to the number, to let you know what the item is…there’s a reason for this.
If it was purelt an RPG type game, maybe the “mystery” would be cool, but this is still an FPS at it’s core, and I don’t think people want to have to pick their outfits through trial and error.
It’s just cosmetics though. And if you let someone save for the catalogue items they’ll have their look in no time. It’s far cooler to walk with outfits that require effort.
Maybe a balance between purchasable, random drops and maybe even achievement rewards would be best.
“outfits that require effort?” whats the point? Do you walk barefoot over hot coals to buy your clothes? When you get the the clothes store, do they just spin the clothes racks, and you yell “STOP!” and you buy whatever is in front at the time? Do they hang that nice suit you want at the top of a mountain, that you have to climb with no gear? No, you don’t do any of that. You work, get paid, go to the store, pick out a specific outfit, and use said money to pay for it. YOu might even try it on first before you buy it.
The same concept should apply in this game. The “effort” you speak of, would be the “work” the player does…the time they invested into the game and the XP they have earned. They shouldn’t have to “earn” what they need to purchase, and then still have to play a guessing game and hope to get what they want.
That’s like saying “I’ve paid for the game, now give me the ending cinematic already”.
It’s always fun to have outfits that you can show off with, making it effortless like that ruins it.

NO, it’s like, “I earned enough money for the game, so I’m going to buy it.”
Your example would be more like, “I beat the game…I “earned” the right to see the final cinematics.”
It’s not like I’m going to buy Brink, and expect to have everything unlocked for me just becuase I bought the game.
It’s always fun to have outfits that you can show off with, making it effortless like that ruins it.
You can still show it off. People will know how much they cost or how much time it took to acquire certain outfits. It’s like a guy driving a Ferrari down the street…He had enough money, so he bought one. I don’t think people are like, “I bet he didn’t even build that car. Probably just bought it at a dealership. pfft, whatever.”
I think Tokamak is talking about having certain items be random drop like in TF2, have a TF2 style random drop generator so even when you’ve bought everything there is still a chance of getting new items, (not including DLC items)

You may unlock new stuff and then choose from it. What’s the problem with that? It doesn’t mean you can’t see what you’ve unlocked. I think what tokamak was trying to say is that you shouldn’t see all the clothes that may be unlocked once you reach the next x levels and I agree on that.
