Brink Q&A

(darthmob) #381

I doubt the hitzones were much different in ETQW. You know, we’re not in the 90s anymore. :stuck_out_tongue:

Another question: Will you be able to see the loadout from other players? Do you see non-equipped weapons? It doesn’t look like that on the screenshots but I’ll ask anyway.

um, they used to be massive hitboxes… sniper was king and most bullets did headshot damage.
i think 1.2 or 1.4 fixed it down after people started noticing

I think its been said somewhere that you will be able to see what class other people are by their equipment.

Got another question

Brink is both singleplayer and multiplayer, online and offline, with stats being carried through each mode
So, where are these stats/unlocks to be stored?
On a Bethesda/Splash master server, or client side to allow stats progression when offline

If client side, what is to stop my mate playing 200hrs straight, unlocking bucket loads of stuff
Then me copy-pasting his stats file in place of mine, thus unlocking me loads of cool stuff for zero effort?

If on a megaserver, how will offline stats progression be possible?

Yeah, you should be able to see unequipped weapons hanging off the enemies back, but we disable that in screenshots right now, because it kind of looks crap (floating a half a foot away from the body and stuff). When it gets cleaned up and polished, you’ll start seeing it in shots (unless of course it turns out to be really hard to clean up… time is tight  )

Good questions, and the best I can answer right now is “yet to be determined” What I can say is that philosophically, I find it untenable that you shouldn’t be able to advance your stats offline (hell, some players will never go online), and if worst comes to worst and PC players want to hack their game to skip to the maximum level and unlock everything on day one, well then they’ve only denied themselves the fun of building a character (the sense of anticipation and discovery, etc.) so they haven’t hurt anyone but themselves…

(RoryGreen) #386

I love the fact that big people are easier targets. That is awesome! So light, skinny people will be awesome bullet dodgers and will be great for speeding round the map! YAY!

(tokamak) #387

Just don’t make it as easy as changing a config file (like in Unreal Tournament).

It’s another reason to be tight on changing body types, a player hacking his character will have a huge advantage over others if he can change whatever fits his huge loadout on the fly.

Q: Are modders allowed to bring Brink content (textures, models, sounds etc) to Quake Wars or vice versa, would the fact that both games are owned by different companies lead to copyright problems?

(badman) #389

I’m no IP lawyer, but generally speaking, it’s best to always ask the copyright holder for permission before using their property in other games.

(jRAD) #390

It’s generally not legally allowed, even between games owned by the same holder.

(tokamak) #391

Alright thanks. I wonder if it’s allowed to use such content as placeholders just to test the gameplay on.

Limited Edition Bonus? pre-order bonus? or is it to soon?

(Exedore) #393

Too soon. :stroggtapir:

Edit: We might be able to pass on suggestions, though!

I want this hoody!

Alternate colour

(tokamak) #395

I wouldn’t mind seeing a whole Brink clothing line. It looks amazing.

(DarkangelUK) #396

It certainly would be a first, and would be awesome too! BRINK is even a good sounding designer logo too

For the Limited Edition: I think your lawyers would freak out if they here about this, but here you go  an airsoft shotgun this or the model from your game. :stroggbanana:

Well a Tapir costume for starters!

(needforWeed) #399

Q: How do we know who is a medic and who’s a soldier if everyone has a different character and clothing ?

(tokamak) #400

There will be backpacks in the game, they haven’t been shown on the screenshots yet. The body types are more important to recognise anyway as they will influence the direct combat more.
