Brink Q&A

(Rahdo) #341

man, i use smileys a lot!

(YaNz) #342

Can we get a time estimate on the release of some official gameplay footage?

(tokamak) #343

Just some speculation here about the two ways of being able to revive. It will probably be an emergency revive and an ‘out of combat’ revive. The emergency revive is likely limited in usage and will likely involve giving the fallen a player a shock or adrenaline rush that will give him a short boost (IE, a limited period of extra hp before dropping back), and the out of combat revive is unlimited will take a short loading time (like strogg revival) but will result in a more durable and efficient revival of the player.

With ‘limited in usage’ I mean that the emergency revive will likely be very costly to your ‘energy’ bar, while the slow revives might be very cheap or even free in cost.

Just what I think. Might as well be probable to specialise your talents into emergency and OOC revival.

Will the console version allow multiplayer split screen? If so can you allow a left to right split as well as top bottom split? much prefer left to right when playing on a large widescreen TV.

Already mentioned by SockDog above, but…

Will Brink allow for custom client side sound packs that won’t make it fail a “pure” validation?
If not for all sounds, more specifically will custom hitsounds be allowed?

Pretty please

(Rahdo) #346

Wish I could give one, but it’s all up to bethesda PR…

(Rahdo) #347

Hard to say. I really hope we can pull it off technically, but it is a very hard nut to crack. Still to far out to say one way or the other at this point…

Request noted!

Head over and read it @ doffelicious.com
that has got to be the most annoying and obnoxious interviewer EVER.

(madness) #350

I think there were a hundred of them…it’s from crossfire Brink thread I guess ?

(Rahdo) #351

yup. i suppose you could consider it as one schizophrenic interviewer suffering from multiple multiple multiple personality disorder, if you like…

and also, wow, dohf! that must have been a metric shitload of work to parse that whole thread down into something readable. hats off!

(bahdom) #352

yeah, much more interesting that way

Head over and read it @ doffelicious.com
If the interview went like that, it seems more like checking off a wishlist rather than an interview.

Anyway, even if it doesn’t read well, there are a load of interesting and lesser points raised.

Hasn’t there always been an issue with this? Client side means someone could load a custom sound pack that causes the enemy to give off a sound every second or so giving the player an advantage.

(tokamak) #355

Yeah you can simply turn foodsteps into claxons.

(kamikazee) #356

Admit it though: the first 5 minutes on such a server would be hilarious. Of course, it would get old quickly.

(tokamak) #357

Come to think of it. It would be cool (and logical) if different bodytypes had different footstep sounds.

Q: Does the Brink editor have the same support for vehicles ETQW has? (there’s a mod brewing in my head)

cheers Rahdo, took awhile so glad people seem to appreciate it.

btw, since Bethesda are kinda slow on giving us the gameplay footage (speed 'em up!) and I hate when I’m not allowed to write stuff and update my page, I decided to make a short summary of the questions/thoughts with replies from this forum for the people who haven’t gone through all the recent threads. so, not anything new but well, still enjoyable for those who doesn’t camp these forums as much as some do

doffelicious.com - report from the Brink-forums

also, please send me a notice if anything is quoted horribly wrong or misinterpreted by me. obviously some thoughts or questions (and replies) have been slightly reformulated.
