Brink PC Gets Steamworks, System Requirements

(kilL_888) #41

steam is supported, ok to me. is it required to actually play the game? hope not…

(Linsolv) #42

Why not? What is your problem with Steam? It’s just a launcher application. Heck, it adds features like a friends list. What is wrong with that?

(JeP) #43

That’s known for a while now : you won’t play Brink without Steam. Or on console.

(Joe999) #44

so what exactly does that mean for the retail version? in case i get the game early, will i be able to play it or do i have to wait for some stupid steam unlock event happening?

(SockDog) #45

As noted in the OP it is used for many integral parts of the game, I doubt running steam is going to be optional.

(Mr.Fozzie) #46

This, and will steam-purchased copies be available for pre-loading.

Both questions i’d be curious to hear the answers to.

(JeP) #47

As experienced before with Steam activation : no, you won’t be able to play it early.

(PapaBearFSM) #48

It´s OK but VAC is crap … hope they is another Anti-Cheat-Tool Support !

(ktr) #49

What?!?

At least VAC works just fine. PB kicks players off for stupid reasons like failing to update or failing to initialize (You were booted for 0 minutes; Reason: PB initialization failure.). Even small packet loss can get you kicked. Even having an overlay (Steam UI, Ventrilo, etc.) will get you kicked. Even having particular hardware will get you kicked. On top of this, PB installs rootkit, not VAC. With VAC, once a cheat is detected, your WHOLE Steam account gets banned.

Exactly, I’ve been kicked out so many times for random/stupid reasons.

The worse is when it just doesn’t let me play. Sometimes the manual update of PB works (I have to download a separate file and then set things from that, I shouldn’t have to do that in reality), but not always.

And like I said earlier… so far hacker-wise I have also had much worse experiences with PB.

(LyndonL) #51

Yay I exceed the recommended specs

Also I don’t see the min specs to be too extravagant… I had a Core 2 Duo lappy (ok it’s underpowered being a lappy) with 4GB ram and it struggled even to play games like L4D… Had very poor graphics to get a decent FPS. My desktop until I upgraded it was a Core 2 Quad or whatever that’re called with 4GB ram and a HD4890 and even that had trouble playing latest games with the graphics turned up (couldn’t)… so meh…

Anyway… I too would like to know:
A) Can we please please please pre-load on Steam so that it activates right on time
B) Can we download dedicated server files ourselves?

(AnthonyDa) #52

Are you guys living on a cave or something? It’s been a year since we know that BRINK will be a steamworks game : http://games.on.net/article/8733/Community_Interview_-_Richard_Ham_Creative_Director_Brink

The STEAM debate as been made already, and even if it finished by jrad banning everyone because HE IS ALWAYS RIGHT despite you are showing him the opposite, it’s just an old story already :stuck_out_tongue:

(Herandar) #53

Just reading this thread makes me glad I game on a console.

(Mustkunstn1k) #54

Why?
The fact is that people want a better version that the console one, because that’s how PC versions are.
I mean dedicated servers and all that are a must when it comes to multiplayer games.
Maybe you meant system specs tho, but I think even the minimum specs run the game EASILY 30 fps 1280 x 720 at low settings…

Even if you port the game over from the consoles without any extra features even then it might be a better version. But if you add the things that are expected in a PC game… then it becomes miles better.

(Herandar) #55

Many reasons. Primarily I don’t want to be bothered with all the specs and upgrades and drivers and etc. I know the game will play perfectly fine, and all I have to do is put the disc in the drive and “press start”.

(hobodefcon) #56

pre-loading would be so awesome. steam is awesome.

hurray for pc specific news!

(master[mind]) #57
Would I be able to run this?

Nvidia GT120
Intel Quad Core Q8300

I usually play on 1024x768 all my games. I just want to make sure I get a smooth FPS.
Short answer No. Long answer Nooooooooooooo…

The GT 120 is 3x slower than the minimum 8800GS requirement. You need a new GPU to play.

(trigg3r) #58

having dedicated servers makes all the “bothering” worth it imo

(Mustkunstn1k) #59

In reality there is nothing bothering. I mean up until now I updated about every 4 years, but with this generation it is clear that my current old rig will last for a long time.

And when it comes to making decisions you just post your current rig to tech forums and they suggest what you should get. Easy as 1, 2, 3…

(Shadowcat) #60

I’m glad to see multi-core support, when I heard it was iDTech4, i was concerned that anything higher than a dual core might be useless.

Overall though, I’m just happy to finally have something to show my friends. For many of them, the deciding factor is if their computer could run it or not.
