Brink PC Gets Steamworks, System Requirements

[drupal=779]Brink PC Gets Steamworks, System Requirements[/drupal]

With Brink now a mere four weeks away, we’ve got a few new bits of information to share about the PC version today. First up, we can confirm that Brink will be making full use of Valve’s Steamworks framework, which will provide a host of useful things for PC players, including the following:

[ul]
[li]Voice Chat [/li]> [li]Valve Anti Cheat [/li]> [li]Friends support (including invites and joining sessions in progress) [/li]> [li]Steam Cloud (for save data) [/li]> [li]Challenge Leaderboards [/li]> [li]Steam Achievements [/li]> [/ul]
This also means that you’ll be able to plug your product key straight into Steam and download Brink no matter where you are in the world - no disc required. Of course, you’ll also be getting any new game updates automatically upon signing into your account, and you’ll have access to things like the Steam Community.
But wait, there’s more! We’ve had a lot of questions about the system requirements for the game in recent weeks and we’ve got those for you today, as well.

Awesome. Totally fine with Steamworks, even tho we already knew that I think (with other things).

But does this mean no things like dev console? [Assumes this post was about PC features overall, not just Steam features and specs] I mean I understand about mods/SDK (DLC needs to sell too, although they could go the World at War way), but still… sadface.

Didn’t care that much about system spects, although recommended are pretty high, but hopefully I can still max it out.

Edit: Why doesn’t it mention Dedicated servers on the Splash Damage page (it does so on the Bethesda page)… But it doesn’t really matter if they are still confirmed. Just a little head-ups about the page.

I hope this isn’t the only info we get this week. =D

I might be just on edge on Ram …will see how it will go My system dont support more ram will have to make a new set up if its doesnt work well …lets hope im ok

Just compared that to the minimum specs for ETQW, and this is a rather steep increase. Not strange at all judging by the age of that game, but people have been saying ‘if you can run ETQW you can run Brink.’

My opinion on steam still remains though. Tis a shame.

I’m down with steam  the pros outweigh the cons by a long shot tbh. BTW is the pc version also releasing a week early or was that just for consoles?

Don´t call me snitch

Sry to disappoint you guys but the min sys req point to a console port.

How does that exactly work?

I’ve got a theory about this. He’s saying that it’s made recently, with modern technology, which has a severe statistical correlation with console ports.

Nice to have some PC details. Are server files/details coming soon? How about the patch strategy?

Steam doesn’t stop you having a dev console or even using mods. Points finger firmly into the eye of every Valve game.

Yes, but wouldn’t that be something to mention when talking about features? Even tho it shouldn’t be ‘feature’ then nowadays it is…

God focken damnit, I can’t even launch the menu of Brink, let alone play it.
This is what “older PCs will be able to run it” means today :frowning:

(Loffy) #15

We’re getting closer and closer. Soon I will play BRINK. A ma Gad!

I see where you’re coming from but I wouldn’t class that info as related directly to Steam or System requirements.

Dev console I think is a given.

Mods/SDK support seems like something SD is waiting on Bethesda to give a yes or no answer to. Although I hope the game is designed in such a way that if there are mods they work fluidly with the rest of the game.

We’re talking about idtech4 here :frowning:

Yeah, hopefully this post was more about the Steam features and specs. Not just PC features.
Because I discovered something weird, this mentions dedicated servers: http://bethblog.com/index.php/2011/04/12/steamworks-feature-set-and-system-requirements-for-brink-revealed/

This doesn’t: http://www.splashdamage.com/node/779

But then again, dedicated servers don’t have anything to do with Steam either. Unless they use the source engine kind of server browser and work also with Steam outside of the game.

The thing about mod support is that I really hope they put it in after launch. I mean I understand - they want to sell DLC and with mods it is very hard… I mean Bethesda games have incredible mod support but most of their games are singleplayer, multiplayer maps are a little harder imho. That isn’t to say that on PC the extras can’t be easily put in by the player without paying.

Seems like all i need is a new-old gfx card if i want to enjoy 90-120fps. Seems like the 3-year upgrade cycle for pc-s is getting much longer.

(badman) #20

Just to confirm, dedicated servers are still a go for PC (but not technically part of Steamworks).
