Yes - either add “+com_allowConsole 1” to your command line, or use the shortcut ctrl+shift+alt+~ (I think… I use the command line myself).

Go to your steam’s launch settings for Brink, and add this:

+com_allowconsole 1

You should now be able to bring up the console with ~ and Ctrl + Shift + ~.

In the past 2 days, I’ve been checking the online user list - and SD peeps have been mostly absent. They’re visiting, but nowhere near as much as usual :frowning:

I find it very hard to disagree with the main points presented in this thread, especially with dommafia and darkangeluk. They’re pretty much spot on, thus the comments in my reputation giving contained the phrase “spot on.”

I wish I were at my house now, where I’ve kept a little list of things that feel off to me about Brink, but I wanted to make sure the list was big enough to warrant a new thread or discussion at all, but I suppose from the top of my head I can let a few fly to add to this.

[u]Server Browser[/u]
To echo everyone else, the server browser is pretty rough. The filtering system could definitely use some work. Again, why fix something that isn’t broken? The last iterations of SD games had a filter list. Choose things you want or don’t want. Boom. Simple. This? Heaven forbid you spell ‘Objective’ wrong, or otherwise you won’t see any servers. For a game that pushes simplicity and elegance, this is leaving way too much up to a player.

In keeping with the server browsing theme, why is there no player list? It’s nice to be able to click on a server and see player names in game. How much time is left on the map. XP scores etc. You can view it through steam when trying to follow a friend into a server, but not in game itself? Lastly, at least on my work computer, the ‘Server Name’ column is like 5 characters wide at 1280x1024.

Ex. I’m sitting next to a coworker and he blurts out loud, “Pfft, nothing like joining a game only to see my team lose.” He joined 2 campaign servers with 10 seconds left in the mission times, and lost immediately. Just another reason to be able to see how much time is left on the map.

[u]Fireteams[/u]
In game, when you do FINALLY figure out how to make fireteams, why does there need to be a vote (especially if you’re the fire team creator) to invite more than 1 player? Or rather there’s no indication that your ‘request’ was successfully sent to the other player. For example, when I click on a player’s name and say “create fire team with Player” it brings you back to game and that’s it. Then they’ll either join or (more than likely) didn’t see the vote pop up on the screen due to the million other things that are visible.

At the least, it would be nice if a counter was displayed on the sender’s screen that showed that the request was in fact sent, and that there are X seconds until the request expires. And then to my other point, why when I send another fireteam invite, that we then have to vote on letting them in? Basically, have a fireteam leader (like in I don’t know, your other games) and only have a vote if a secondary member invites another player, or another player requests to join. It seems overly complicated, again, in a game that sells simplicity.

For the love of all that’s holy in life, please allow default colors for fireteam members. Purple!? Only purple?! I would love to actually be able to READ fireteam chat. The purple is helpful for fireteam member recognition but the chat text is not good.

While we’re on the subject, it would be nice is the player could designate colors to each fireteam member. Red for my medic buddy, Green for my other friend who’s probably slackin off somewhere etc.

[u]Chat[/u]
Having no post game chat that is defaulted to the player is unacceptable. As a few others have said, it feels completely disconnected and almost to the point sometimes that you’re playing with and against bots at all times.

On the subject of chat, is there a reason the freakin chat box that is displayed is like 25 characters wide? It makes for jumbled text that’s hard to either read in the first place or even notice.

[u]Random[/u]
Movement sometimes is a bit weird when I’m sprinting forward, and then sometimes I’ll just stop sprinting. It’s not because I made a sharp turn, reloaded or anything like that. It just, stops… sometimes.

Also, some of the keys seem unresponsive at times. Like when I hit R to reload, 90% of the time it works… 10% of the time nothing. The same goes for the F key in general. It’s almost like I hit the button too quickly. For example, when planting a light turret I hit 4 + F almost in one motion and instead of planting the turret with me holding F, it just sits there. I have to let go, and then press F again. It’s very subtle but annoying.

Lastly, it’s frustrating that the Operative Hack Tool is not selectable, and that you actually need to run all the way back up to the box to re-equip it. I can understand how it encourages Operatives to stay near the objective, but it’s a pain switching to your gun to defend or hold off a wave of enemies, and then running back to it to continue hacking.

I definitely have a few more critiques etc but this is all I can think of, and plus I’m running out of lunch time, and I want to get a game in or two. I’m a huge SD fan, and because of that I have very high expectations for the work they do and hold them to a higher standard than most game studios. There are so many ares about this game to praise. The movement in general is amazing. The maps are beautiful. Most of the classes are a lot of fun etc. So it’s not all storm clouds in this player’s eyes, and I still have much love for SD, and I know they’ll continue improving on the game so long as there’s constructive feedback.

been there done that… just last night as a matter of fact… very annoying… game crashed on me shortly afterwards… said screw this, and went to a ETQW server…

Slipgate was the map- saw GDF needed coverts, hit G4 on my G19, rushed the gate, we got most the hack on the first push, saw we had plenty of Coverts and only 1 med… hit G1-instant medic…

we got the hack, hit G6 - Soldier with a RL- helped escort the MCP by taking out vehicles and deploy ables… MCP parked and launched, saw we needed Medics- g1 again, instant medic…

ran behind to GPMG’s for support, came across some Hyper’s and Tech’s revived and healed my teammates… pushed to the objective… told them (USING A WORKABLE VOIP) all clear, plant- ‘here they come on your 6, your left side’ finish the plant ill get you up. they did… got them back up, INSTANTLY (love the Defubs) we guarded the plant they both fell again, dont tap! am coming, got them both up under fire,while jumping and strafing like a mad man… from there they were able to protect their plants - and win the map…

i say all this, simply, because with BRINK you could never do the above, its to slow… you cant bunny hop and revive fallen teammates on a sprint, especially if they are next to one another… you cant change classes on the FLY- (we all know you need the command post to do that)

and we all the know the rest…

We’ll see what the patches do, am not going to hold my breath… but i can still can hope for the best…

2 cents:

Ammunition: Should be drop able, enemies should also be able to pick it up.

Health: only medics can self heal, so no drop able medic packs.

I’ve encountered many time a bug when you can’t hack an incapacitated enemy - doesn’t promt you to do so.
Also, sometimes finish off melee move doesnt actually kill a downed/incapped enemy even after few tries (animation takes place, but no effect)

I guess they would work similarly to ET:QW.

Like almost everybody else in this thread, I agree with pretty much all the main points that have been made so far. This game is simply not that PC-friendly at the moment. And it is certainly disappointing when so many basic PC FPS features (like a server browser with useful filters, and post-game chat) are missing in a game that was made by the same people who made ET and ET:QW. It’s baffling.

Does anyone alse have similar problem - alot lately I crash to desktop when I start disguising - crashes during the process. Crashed 3 times once during a single map, don’t remember having this problem before the latest patch…
No specific error message, just application stopped responding.
I have nvidia 460 with latest drivers (if that helps)

never happend to me.
but my brink crashes when I keep it minimized long enough, probably for about 5 minutes.

also I found a exploit that you can shoot through walls, or atleast this one with lean, shots hit enemies:

It’s been a long while since we’ve been presented with a game that carries so much potential to be called one of the greats… it’s been too long. This game honestly has that potential… but it’s all up to the developers. There’s nothing more we can do other than be honest with our feedback and continue enjoying what we have.

This is my list; not much has been unsaid. There is kind of an order of importance, in my opinion, but it wasn’t thought through so much.
