the fact that there are ~2,500 views of this thread should show that people are interested in this feature lol
Brink needs Splitscreen
People are interested in getting a million dollars - doesn’t mean they should all have sacks of money dropped off at their doorsteps.
thread views by different people, or the same guy reading the same thread over and over?
Too late for split screen now, but my argument was just the phasing away of split screen for more online features is making a physical barrier between real-life friends.
“Oh, you could still connect online and be in contact with each other” does not mean actual “contact”.
With consoles becoming heavier, splitscreen being phased out for online, there are no reasons for hardcore gamers to get real life friends anyway, since you can’t even play and see their real expressions when they are sitting right next to you. Who is going to lug their game consoles to another person’s house just to connect into a lan anyway?
At least PC gaming still has the friend in the same building playing on lan thing, because I know of nobody who owns 2 of the same console. Why would they? They already have one, and as I said, the friend can’t bring their’s over because those things weigh like 30 bricks.
The presence of online I feel is making people who are already introvert, more introverted. I have seen some games that phased out lan as well. Why would they go outside to interact with real people if they can sit on a couch, or sitting near a computer with no one around them, and talking to people they may never see in their entire lives?
Also how are internet bullies made? Maybe because they don’t have real life friends?
Is it too late for split screen? didn’t they delay the game?
And i agree i’m not thrilled with the trend away from less contact with the people your playing with.

umm…me

Well i don’t know about that but it does make it easier for people to troll if they have no personal interaction at all with the people they’re playing with

I don’t see how the comparison is relevant. As a game developer if a large portion of your audience is interested in getting something, its generally in your interest to provide that for the consumer if it increases the chances that they will buy your product

And if offering such a feature (split screen) will compromise the integrity of the rest of the game, then no mater what percentage of your audience asks for it, you don’t put it in. Resources can be allocated towards more important features or phases of development rather than wasting them (and it really is a waste) on split screen. Same with female characters, same with global leaderboards - they chose to leave them because it would deliver a better overall product.
could you explain how split-screen compromises the integrity of the game? Is it just because they could be working on other things which you feel more important?
Hey, if they compromise the integrity of the split screen feature, then whatever.
I’m sure the pro splitscreen people won’t complain if the splitscreen has uber horrible graphics, and missing some maps right?
I’m not against wanting splitscreen, it is just that I don’t think it will work on this game, and for those who do want it so bad, and in the end, if the splitscreen does come out, and it is really inferior, I find it sad that people will complain that the thing they wanted badly was a defective product, which deserves them right.
Kind of like the Wolfenstein MP fans. They wanted something similar to RTCW’s MP, even to the point of showing the developers frag movies, which in reality, showed them NOTHING on how RTCW was meant to be played, and with that info, they just developed something as long as there was objective based gameplay. What did they (fans) do? They whined.
So I hope that if SD develops a quick 30 minute splitscreen program that sucks horribly, that you don’t whine like they did, because you did want it badly. It isn’t like I wanted to play this game in splitscreen anyway, it detracts from the coolness. The best splitscreen games are on the N64 and PS1 anyway.
I believe that whoever wants something so badly, deserves inferior products. Those who ask for them, and accept that they got denied, get superior products. It is a shame that in the SD dictionary, inferior product does not exist.

Actually i’d prefer this to no split-screen at all. and i think an earlier post agrees:
If it’s possible, I want it, I’d even be willing to have a less immersive experience with some dumbed down graphics and whatnot to make it less stressfull on my system.

What??? could you explain this in more detail i’m not sure if i understand you…if i want a feature “so badly” in my game i deserve an inferior product? I already know its not going to be in Brink and i’ve accepted that I’m just saying its a feature i think they should consider in the future, if there is a further delay, etc.
btw, why don’t you think split-screen wouldn’t work for this game? and what games are you referring to on the n64 and PS1? (i could always use something to kill time before brink comes out :)) personally the best split-screen games I’ve played where splinter cell chaos theory, RSV2, and halo.
I’m saying that those, not you, who do actively complain that such and such a feature does not exist, should get an inferior version of that feature.
As I have said before, the developers can listen to fans or they don’t have to listen to fans. They could make whatever game they want as long as it makes them money. If developers piss off a large proportion of gamers, well then it is their loss. If they complain that such and such a feature does not exist, then not only would the developers lose one sale, but those people who complained wasted all their time waiting for a game that they know well beforehand that such and such a feature did not exist.
The events go like this.
Such a feature does not exist, so complain in forum.
Wait all this time for the game, so to not feel bad, you buy the game.
You find out the game does not have such and such a feature, so complain in forum after game’s release.
All that complaining in forums and waiting for games to be released, or having the hope to wait for something that is never going to exist, or to exist in a very long time is what I call a waste of time.
That is how it is. In Wolfenstein’s case anyway. There are some people actively waiting for new maps and such, but as we all know, that game pulled off the challenger rocket, and Raven, Activision, and id don’t give any crap about that game anymore. But the difference here is that SD gives a crap about all their games, and will only add something if they know is going to work. And I don’t remember any id tech 4 game that has splitscreen, so blame the engine?
Exactly. I can vouch for myself.
Just today I bought The Club, Perfect Dark Zero and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfare.
Three games of “not exactly the highest quality” for 20$ total.
Why? Because they all have split-screen. It’s such a rarity that I’ve become desperate enough to buy those games just to get split-screen.
Of course, I find little use for split-screen in BRINK if it ends up being total ****, but if they could manage it, I would definetly prefer if they had it.

It would be awesome if it was split screen, But even if it’s not, That’s okay, because this game looks AWESOME anyway!
That makes the whole 3D craze their trying to shove down our throats almost worth it… almost.
I wonder how they would make it so that one guy sees one thing, and the other guy, looking at the same screen, sees something different? Are they going to put both images on screen on top of each other, and one glasses sees one layer, and the other one sees a different layer?
Yes that’s the idea.
What they do now with 3D is give each eye a different polariod glass. If you take 2 the same glasses (say left eye) for both eyes, and give another 2 right eye glasses, the first sees only what is mean to be seen by his left eye, the other only what is meant to be seen by his right. That’s obviously pointless in the case of 3D, but in a case like this you can have 2 people see a different thing of the same screen. Problem is that for bystanders it looks like a pile of junk
make it 30fps cap for split screen, instead of 60fps… it shouldnt be hard to do, the problem would seem to be performance on the ****ty consoles than making it possible
Make splitscreen a pc exclusive feature that’s easily accessible, add duel screen support and be the first not to mess it up. Allow people to put their powerful expensive pc’s and home entertainment systems to good use. There’s basically no competition and the demand has become quite high for it.
“Make splitscreen a pc exclusive feature that’s easily accessible”
and you’d make some way to distinguish which KB/M was which, how ?
