Brink needs Splitscreen

(DarkangelUK) #61

Buy me an extra console for a game that doesnt have splitscreen plskthx

(Nail) #62

as soon as they announce multi monitor for my PC
not sure if I’ve heard of splitscreen on any PC game

[edit] seems you can hack a few games to run split screen with 360 controllers, meh, if I wanted to play with a game pad, I’d buy a ToyBox

(Lequis) #63

Split screen gets ppl without Xbox Live, etc to buy the game, so it is definitely a good idea because playing actual players is always better than playing the same bots all the time, plus ppl love to screen look, so there you go.

(Floris) #64

Settlers 2. It even had multi mouse support (one player could use a mouse connected to the ps2 port while the other would use a mouse connected to the serial port).

(Nail) #65

Thanks, the Settler series is one of my favorites, but I never knew about splitscreen, I’ll have to dig out an old serial mouse and try it

(light_sh4v0r) #66

Liero has it

Ok, I have read all posts prior to this one, and have thought about this post the entire time I read all of this. I even signed up like 30 seconds ago just to simply make this post.
This game would be amazing if it had split screen. Not just local split screen, but online as well, this game is supposed to ‘blur the line’ and have an amazing co-op experience. I understand if some PC gamers don’t understand the need for split screen on some games, just like I don’t understand multi monitor ( unless of course it’s like splitscreen in which case it makes complete sense ) but me and my brother have had some amazing times with games that allow split screen online, like halo and Gears, ( thank you Bungie and Epic ) however some games like MW2 ( IW ) seem to like overlooking this, I understand splitscrren takes time, effort, money, and frustration, but I dont have an extra $300 lying around to go spend on another 360 and a second copy of the game.
If it’s possible, I want it, I’d even be willing to have a less immersive experience with some dumbed down graphics and whatnot to make it less stressfull on my system. Developers are contantly turning a blind eye to splitscreeners, but the market, and audience is still there, if Brink is truely meant to widen Splash Damage’s audience, then it needs to truely leave an impact on the gaming industry, and whith it’s release close to Reach’s that impact is going to need to be a big one, while I plan on buying the game, at least Reach will have splitscreen for sure upon it’s release, and if Brink doesn’t I guess it’ll have to wait till Christmas.

Serious Sam.

Did you forget the GoldenEye days? I was disappointed to hear it won’t be in Brink. :frowning:

splitscreen is old tech. It was necessary before online and co-op were available. I say leave it in the past.

(PuppetRebel) #71

That’s great if you’re a complete loner that sits up in your living room playing online. However, that’s not the case for plenty of people who still actually like sitting next to the person they’re playing with. Or who don’t have an extra $300 to spend on a second console and game, I’m lucky enough to have 1 3rd gen console that plays the games I want. I have friends, and family I’d like to play with and without split screen on one of our most anticipated games in the next year, I’d feel guilty getting it. On top of that, internet access is iffy for a lot of people. First of all is getting a high speed internet connection can be expensive for a decent one and lots of people are suffering in a struggling economy. Next to that, for Xbox at least, you have to pay for Live and that is added costs the lots of people may not be able to afford, and without out that, what would be the point in buying a game that is supposed to be a PvP/Co-op experience.

(tokamak) #72

Old tech doesn’t have to be redundant tech, it’s great to enjoy a game on the same screen.

it has little to do with me “being a loner” and more to do with having a quality game experience. Cutting the screen in half is not my definition of “quality game experience.” I want the single big screen, and the full experience. I’m not saying 2 player on the same screen is bad, just when the game has to split it up to accomplish that. Games where each player share the whole screen uniformly that is fine, but when multiplayer on the same screen involves cutting it up, they’re gonna have to wait their turn to play.

the only way i can play games with my dad is split screen.

wouldnt swap those short moments for the world.

(WolfieboyMachi) #75

I must say split-screen is too much of a rarity nowadays.
Playing with your friends present is way better than playing online and it’s sad to see so many developers forgetting that.
What especially makes me sad is that there are quite a lot of games that have online co-op, but no split-screen, which makes no sense to me at all.

Split-screen is basicly it’s own selling-point nowadays and I definetly hope to see it in the game.

What?! What a load of crap!

The best moments are the ones you share with your friends and the people you care about.
The only reason to add that to gaming without split-screen is to have several consoles and several TV’s in the same room, which is extremely impractical.

All the best times I’ve ever had in gaming and the only times when I felt gaming was actually worth something was when I was playing side by side with my friends.
Basicly an impossibility without split-screen.

Same here actually, and with my sisters.
Some of my fondest moments video-gaming have been while playing split screen.

I doubt it will make it in, though. =[

lol, I find it funny how people still haven’t gotten over the psychological stage where they think just because they have something, therefore everybody must be exactly the same as them.

For example. They have 2 TV’s, 2 consoles, and the 2 TVs are in the same room. They must think that if it is easy for them to set them up, it must be easier for everybody else to set them up. (what kind of a normal person has 2 TV’s in the same room anyway?)

Or another example would be, they think that getting xbox live gold is cheap, so therefore to everybody else, it must be cheap for them too without realizing that they have other things to pay for.

Or another example is a good internet connection. They must think that everybody has the same internet connection they do, and therefore they can download games off steam, and play online, while in reality, some of them can’t, and thus with the decline of splitscreen gaming, they don’t get to play with someone who is sitting next to them.

On the subject of splitscreen gaming, I can make 2 screens on my big screen TV, and each screen is the size of a small TV. I play Quake 2 on PSX or N64 on one side, and ETQW on 360 or PS3 on the other side, although I don’t get to control both at once. Kind of like how I run 2 games at once in windowed mode.

Wait, wait, nevermind, I don’t think I can run two instances of the same game at once on my PC in windowed mode to make a pseudo splitscreen, and even if I could, I only have one control setup.

Now me, I don’t care if this game does not have splitscreen, because I can still play this game online, and that people near me probably don’t play this game anyway. But I do feel sorry for those who have friends that are close to them, and can’t play this game together. It is a shame that multiplayer games now separate physical contact of true friends, and actual verbal interaction between friends. Well not me, I don’t have any friends anyway, so that I can just play online. All alone. Nobody with me. Me in couch, or sitting near my PC. Tumbleweeds in my basement.

You don’t need 2 TV’s - a monitor works as well. I do ALL my gaming on my monitor - PC and console, and I still have my TV in the same room not being used - and when I say it’s “not being used,” I mean just that. There is nothing good on TV. I never watch it, I don’t even have cable. I use it for only watching movies, which most of the time I use my PC for anyway.

As for your other examples, it’s not an issue (to me) about having a good connection or thinking XBL is cheap or anything like that, it has to do with splitscreen is a lame alternative to co-op. Cutting the screen in half, regardless of its size, is lame. Even if I only had 1 TV and my friend was over, we are either playing 2 player games that don’t cut the screen up, or he’s waiting till it’s his turn.

(shadowmike) #79

Personally I will always preffer sharing the screen with 1 to 3 good friends as opposed to keeping the screen to myself in order to play 15 randoms online. If split screen is included in this game that would be great! If not I’m ready to suck it up and live without the feature.

(maxtalent) #80

Split-screen definitely needs to be considered for Brink. It is a major selling point for any game that has it (I know people who have bought games just for this feature: borderlands).

Also a question for the four console gamers on this forum: For those of you that play/have played Halo 3 online, how many times have you seen a guest playing split-screen on the same console? Personally I see it like every other match. My point is lots of people love split-screen and lots of people use it including it in this game could only benefit SD.
