Reading. It helps.
As long as I can find servers with people on it, I don’t see the issue. The issues with this game are others. I won’t drop it because hordes of CoD/BF fans quit (if I must also go the generalization route), I’ll drop it because inherently, I don’t like playing the game.
Because it’s too much consolized, 1-button-for-all, too small for my taste, well, numerous reasons.
“no on plays it lolololol”? No, thks
Brink has not flopped yet
They lalalaed their MP with a foolish menu. What may work on PC due to serverlists etc is impossible on consoles. In order to make a MP just successful it only needs two menus or buttons:
-
Join a game
Let me choose the map, timemode and ready up. No need for Big Team, Old School, … and most important: no bots. Make it just as easy as possible to enter a MP game. Don`t let people search for games through 5 modes with different setups and wtf. -
Host a game
Make whatever you want. -
Lobbies and you`re done!
you had me until here, ETQW didnt fail as fast as you seem to think, not only is the game still active on PC 4 years later, yes not as active-- but for a good 2 years + every server i tried to join was normally full… luckily i knew a number of admins and was given access to reserved slots…
i thank them once again…
and ETQW’s eventual failure was not Do to SD - but to whoever decided RANKED serves was a good idea… that killed ETQW, again not SD… they created an incredible game in ETQW, sadly Brink just doesn’t compare, nor will it ever…
The reason the game died on consoles is simple:
-
Lag – Why am I going to play a game where I can’t even aim or even move due to lag, when there are $15 Xbox Live titles with virtually no lag to play.
-
SD’s “Fix” for the Lag – Namely, making it so that all games were 4 v. 4 with bots. People don’t want to play with bots. They want to play with humans. The playlists make it so that the average gamer can’t get it into a full game.
Simple. A demo or open beta would’ve solved nearly all their lag problems and we’d have a healthy community on consoles. I don’t want to get rid of my copy of Brink, but as it stands I will have to simply because there is no one to play with and the single player is worthless.

i see that etqw had more personality, but numbers states that it has about 500 players concurrently only, when BF2, for example, released in 2005, ha a pick of 10.000
players dropped slower than brink, but they reduced progressively

so if ETQW is not a fail than BF2 is a galactic success
ETQW failed due to incredible spam generated by combinations of vehicles and deployables combined with sw gamemode (1 single objective flooded) added to the well known low techical value of idtech4 in mp games, in some ways similar reasons for brink’s failure

I’ll grant that the initial lag issue didn’t do the game any favors, but since the 1.02 patch on PS3 I’ve seen an incredible improvement. I don’t consider lag an issue any more. And I swear I’ve seen more than 4v4 in Standard games on the PS3, but I could be mistaken. I think if they’re going to make it 4v4, they should just leave it at that with no bots. I know there’s “Competitive,” but I hate having friendly fire turned on.

LOL- how did BF2 come into play? i know ETQW has a very small player base, but i took your quote about Brink failing faster then ETQW- Brink has been out for not even a month and its dying a fast death- -ETQW took a few years before it hit Brinks current life span… thats all i was saying…
and yes the IDtech4/even Modified engine could not handle the game, as far as vehicle spam – blah blah… grab a NUBTOOB and have some fun… i do…
plus, many peeps didnt know how to play the class that was needed…
still a great game, far superior then Brink is or ever will be…
So whats better than Brink on pc at the moment?
Don’t say BFBC2, because IMO movement and hit rego are the top two important factors and this game fails at both of these. COD games = nade spam, spam gun, profit use tactical nuke or some other stupid toy, tiny maps, retarded knife insta kill. Homefront= no comment.
Brinks got more going for it than any other game out there at the moment IF they can fix some things. Sure I wish it was perfect out of the box, but it wasn’t. deal with it and work with the dev’s to make us a fantastic game. Retards that just sit in these forums going I told you so don’t help jack for this game or the gaming community.
If you look at the list above brink, how many are new FPS, I want a good FPS to play and this is all we have at the moment. So keep ****ting in your own nest and have nothing to play.
Brink has turned out to be so much fun and now that ACTIVISION infinity ward have anounced theyre going to set up a charge monthly for more maps and stats sight FPS have gone the wrong direction paying for all this extra content BFBC sellling unlock packages so you didnt even have to earn it a roommate payed for it all on my account and it ruined it for me what was i working towards everything was unlocked BETHESDA SPLASH DAMAGE keep your credibility dont ever pull that kind of move the article i read they expect to have 1million then 3million then 5million subscribers over the next couple of years no matter how much money i have i cannot support that move i love how they call it ELITE services yeah i have an extra 5-8 dollars to add to my cable + live bill to have a cod bill nope nada cancel that !!! and on to BRInk again this game is great !!!

QL, TF2, CS?
Not all FPS’s with a big playerbase are easy and military themed, y’know :stroggtapir:

yes they are good games, and fun. anything newer than 3 to 5 year old games that hasn’t had 10 or so patches and isn’t $5 to get were it is.
Even tf2 (at least in pub) can’t compete with Brink in terms of teamplay. When it was released it had lots of issues too.
Looks like a lot of people have seen this thread, just ran across a similar image elsewhere on the net:
SD please fix this game ASAP, this is not looking good at all!
No matter what SD do Brink is dead.
No game has ever recovered from a bad start.
SD deserve whatever poor sales and reputation loss with Brink.
The players of Brink however do not deserve it and no matter what SD do, they can’t make things right.
You know what’s sad ? In the future, Splash Damage (if it survives) will be describing Brink as an Award-Winning Game in press releases.
This is about Quake Wars. Yes, you can’t spell “ignorant” without “ign”.
Birds of misfortune! Stop croaking death of Brink everywhere on the forums, It wont do anything good! It will only spread rumors about the game and ruins first impressions. " Dont buy Brink because not a single map is good" or " Forget Brink, they didnt patched EVERY single issues instantly, its a fail". You are just helping create a cancer that will prevent new players of enjoying the game ( I do like it pretty much as many others are, even with its issues) since all they hear is BS about it. " Brink is dying!!!" Yeah and you are bashing over it so much it does collateral. At best continue to point out issues or exploits. SD reads its forums and they often starts working from there.
Example: ETQW. (which wasnt as dead as many would believe, there was a very active community). Many patches were results of players helping SD to think of everything about the game. Sure they tested it, but its the players in the long run that will feel the pain if something is not good or not enough. i refer here for one, the nerfing of some vehicules, like aircrafts. If im right there was a clan making duel matches on aircratfs one vs one, AND it helped dish out a lot of stats about the stuff involved in those aspects of the game. Dommafia was one such participant, and guess what? SD took feeds from him or other guys like Greased.
Stop losing you time in ranting on a cancer that can be cured, because YOU could be the cure for some part of it. Do your part! Wont you be proud if SD names you as being the hero of the day, the chosen one that made the game better? Being Neo or Anakin, sure why not… (nah not anakin, he became a sith, bad example
).
PS. ETQW being a fails??? Maybe to you! I started playing ETQW on beta Valley, like many big fellas that are on Brink today, (and that im sure they still like QW), and from that day, Ive spend half of my time playing at least QW, keeping the other half to try games just in case id liked them ( a.k.a. DM fps games or RPGs). In the Fps department, QW was my type. The Fails-preachers are in fact those who are not QW type (obj/class-teamplay). Since you havent played or just a bit, its easy to think that, but there is always a community forming around online games. DAmm, even UO still has one  !! I waited Brink to replace my good old QW (and cheating it with TF2, im such a whore!!!). TY SD for your games, im your type of player, had so many pure fun scrimming nights but dont forget youll have to share me with TF2 and other titles…

Start Ranting about being positive for once…
Holy crud… Learn to format text, man. My brain was begging for oxygen while reading that.
hmm borderlands > brink.
And borderlands was regarded as ultimately buggy at its launch as far as I remember…

how is borderland > than brink. even after all 4 DLC’s, it comes no where near brink,
borderlands was hackable via the client side, that was just dumb and destroyed te game from week 1.
borderlands was good because it was a very open world with quite alot to explore, but there was no competition whatsoever
I think Ashog was talking in terms of numbers.
Which ultimately, as I keep repeating, is nothing conclusive on product quality, lack of, content, inventivity, etc…
It’s usually a good indicator of product’s ease of access, nothing more
