Brink has not flopped yet
Pulled from an earlier post in this thread: Now the lag’s fixed and it’s great

Thats bull. . . . for XB360 anyway. I’m still waiting to get into matches with any regularity at all that don’t make me seasick from all the jumping and skipping around. I feel like I’ve paid $60.00 for a prick teasing glimpse of a game that could be fun to play if it only worked correctly in the arena it was intended for and supposedly developed for - multiplayer.

This perpetual inability to give me a complete hour or two worth smooth playing matches cannot be tolerated and shrugged off for much longer at all. It’s inexcusable. None of my other games do this. It’s not my connection. It’s coding and design inadequacies. Woof Woof Woof
ive paid 50$ for the game and it rocks graphically on my PC with very few lag spikes. I feel like the 10$ ive saved, compared to xbox users, is worth ten times its value. Long Live PC community.

(PowZee) #82

Well aint that great . . . Look, I’m all for the longevity of the PC gaming community. I’ve been playing games on my PC’s for many years. It just so happens that I purchased Brink for the XB360. Either way we should be able to have the same game experience for our purchase whether its $50 or $60 . . . doesn’t matter. The frustrations of the console lag issue continuing on as it is, is still inexcusable.

(Ero-Sennin) #83

i dont want to sound rude, but as far as ive seen it, every online games that are both on PC and console = PC > consoles. I always hear stuff like " yeah i was playing Resident Evil 5 online and my partner was lagging so bad i got killed because i didnt had support…" " Was he on 360?" “Yeah poor guy, i feel sorry for him wasting is money…”

Big lesson ive learned : consoles are good at single player offline gaming. PC will always rules for online gaming AND single player offline gaming. Wanna play multi on console? plug in 4 controllers and find 3 friends…

(DazTroyer) #84

Off topic somewhat, its amazing the CS : Source is still number two, I wish Valve would release it for console.

(Vlane) #85

Why? It’s not like CS:S or CS need good hardware to run properly.

(riptide) #86

Neither does quake live and it’s free. It’s because of the game not because of the hardware requirements… graphics will NEVER make up for bad game play.

(Kurnuttaja) #87

Actually CS:Source and CS are the top 2 games, look at the peak. Terraria is only temporarily topping the list but as day goes on the CS games will top it.

It’s hard to bring a dead game back to life. Keep that in mind.

SD (and I guess Bethesda as well) were too small to fulfill their big dream. BRINK was just too ambitious for them. This game SHOULD have been either a PS3, or a Xbox360 or a PC exclusive. Simple as that.

Developing a multi-platform game only adds more hassle to the development. Different assets to work with, different technical limitations frustrating the programmers, etc… Was ET:QW such a loss for the company that multi-platform was the only way to make profit? I highly doubt that.

Not only that, but it seems the updates are (suposed to) going out simultaneously with all platforms.

Y’know what? I think if SD made this game Steam exclusive and shred their contract with Bethesda, things would’ve ended much brighter. Low publishing costs, total freedom with updates, no deadlines from the publisher and God knows what else.
Hell, look at Killing Floor. That game was developed by a much smaller team, is Steam exclusive, and it’s doing friggin’ better than BRINK. (And it had amazing updates on the road!)

And my guess why people are laughing at BRINK’s death (or at least, loss of ‘life’) is because they predicted it. They were right. And I don’t blame 'em for sitting behind their desk, pinky at their mouth, cat on their lap and laughing like a mad genius.

(DazTroyer) #89

Er… because I game on console and not pc? I loved CS on the old xbox, it would be great on console.

(Herandar) #90

That’s not an acceptable reason to gloat. It’s not like they hatched a plan to bring the game down, worked for it and are now watching the plan succeed.

“Oh, I said a week ago that people would stop playing Brink. I was right. Ha ha.” Nostradamus, they ain’t.

No, but quite a lot of people here told them otherwise. Told them that BRINK is an amazing game with many years to live. These exact people have been proven otherwise (in their eyes) and are now being laughed at; albeit not personally.

It’s like laughing at the loser after winning a round of rock paper scissors. Or a simple “told you so”.

They shoulda left it on the PC because the amount of bewildered console players gave Brink a bad name at launch. They expected something more than a multiplayer only title (I can’t blame them when you look at the way it was marketed and priced).

PC players are used to this. There would have been much less whine at launch if it was a PC only title. Excluding all the usual rage

(Herandar) #93

And Bethesda would have made much less $$$.

(AZTEC-SJSU) #94

I kind of feel like I got the wrong “cutting edge” product here regarding BRINK…
Like:
Village People on 8 track tapes
Popeye on RCA laser discs
Piranha on BETA
ET on Atari …My wedding on VHS-C
All them Super hifi 8 mm videos collecting dust somewhere…

P.s. If you can’t laugh at this???---- then YOU’re a blind Fanboy!!!

(Seiniyta) #95

For the pc version, just make it free, give the people who bought it stuff the free users need to pay for. Create a online shop where the free users can buy stuff, or buy the whole game if they want it all. Seems like something that might be very profitable and ensure SD continues developing Brink

TODAY: 1,741 2,347 BRINK

http://store.steampowered.com/stats/

the drop rate is about 50% pour week, starting from 16.000, to 2.000 in only 3 weeks

these numbers simply states who is wrong and who is right in the discussions about this game
some people try to defend Brink arguing that numbers do not matter, to wait for the next patch, that the guiltys are the stupid players not understanding the game…come on be serious, this game has an incredible low quality level + stopwatch is clearly a gamemod not fit to the fun servers, it is mortifying, and that’s why people leave this game so quickly…

i respect the work of others, i believed in ETQW and i paid 50e, i believed in Brink and i paid 60e, what i have got is 2 fails, SD incredibly reached the target to fail in a faster way than ETQW…no comment

No, they don’t for me, I won’t get my taste dictated by the fact “everyone lovesX and hate Y”.
Be a sheep if you want, but to me, the reason a game is a failure will never be its popularity

I don’t think it’s gloating in all cases, more vocalising the frustration. There were aspects people argued/debated heavily on in the forums only to be shouted down by other users because they weren’t echoing SD’s line. To then see, albeit in this narrow window of users, those points come up as reasons why people aren’t enjoying the game is IMO understandable cause for people to go WTF!

Apportion blame wherever but it can be argued that SD as a brand has sustained damage from this release that may affect their future sales or even publishing opportunities. It isn’t unreasonable to suggest that spreading across three platforms on a brand new franchise was just too much. Even Valve screwed that up.

(AZTEC-SJSU) #100

Soooooo a Multi-player game with no one to play with is NOT considered a failure??? Hmmm you’re right it’s considered a RELIC!!!
