it’s not that great but on the other side all others FPS above it are COD/Halo/BF games, so much for variety…
Is anyone really surprised at the dwindling numbers? Sorry, but when you knowingly release a rather low quality game from the perspective of bugs, balance and awful lag for the consoles; the word of mouth is going to kill any future potential the game had.

The upcoming patches needed to be a release day download vs a month later and that’s really all there is too it. I hope someone is happy with the results of a rushed release.
well I will be honest.
I was expecting an average of 10,000 people / day (from the hype this game generated + all the stuff they said about if being similer to W:ET and ETQW)

On EU release I was happy to see Brink at 17,000 (just behind TF2 at ~20,000).
I was like wow this game brought a good chunk of players from TF2. Then it went down hill.

Once I saw the quality of this game though I knew something was wrong.
Then the fairly slow updates killed the game. This game is headed downward and heaven or hell cant improve it.

I suspect when Batlefield 3 is released, wich also have a class systeam and team play, will decrease brink community a lot. But the fact is that people with dual cores, atis have terrible fps and all of us have bugs wich can ruin the game experience, and they try to be “revolutionary” with bots,no k/d,voip thats a nice revolution ftl.
They need to sell this game for like the price of tf2 if any chances of a big community, when im on steam friends playng brink, people ask me its worth buyng it, I say well its a fun game, but have bugs and issues, and for 49 euros no its not worth it.

I respect SD for not going the way of so many other companies. But I think a lot of the rage has nothing to do with people getting banned on Bethesda forums and coming over here. I think it has to do with people blaming the developer for a game that wasn’t fully developed. Their line of thinking stops there and while it’s mostly correct there is obviously more to it than that.

I think that someone that gets miserable over what anyone else thinks, especially about something or someone that isn’t you, is laughable.

As for the topic… Well maybe it is a flop but I know I mainly play FPS games for the competitive community regardless of whether or not I compete seriously. I played r6 series/ut2k4/quake4/cod4 and the competitive community was not very big in any of them but it most definitely didn’t ruin any fun. In fact it is more fun seeing people you’ve played against before and either become friends or rivals.

I can tell you I’ve played mw2/bc2 for a little bit and there were so few people I had seen in another server that it made me feel like a bot with no interaction or sense of anything resembling a community worth being a part of. Granted I didn’t play them as much but the point remains, if the game is fun it will be more fun when you get to know the people you are playing with. So long as you can always find a server to play in… it doesn’t matter if there are only 9-15 other people playing at a time.

what it says about the PC FPS community anyways- is that we dont cater to lowest common denominator, that is called Brink… SD has two pretty amazing titles under their belt which gained them much respect and a pretty loyal following in the gaming world…

I for one, was not expecting a W:ET2 or ETQW2, but i was expecting SD to take what worked so well in both games, (far to many to list) and incorporate them into Brink. We didnt get that, instead in my opinion we got another typical plain Jane FPS game, because of the limitations Consoles bring to the FPS community… Brink is a step backwards for SD and the PC FPS community.

“Brink will be a great game for years to come” - that remains to be seen…

the PC community saved W:ET. with mods and maps- game was free, so it was easy to do… will the SDK save Brink? no way to know, some thought the SDK would save ETQW - but it didnt, to much time lapsed between the game release and SDK and ranked servers didnt help it-- Brink doesn’t have Ranked servers- so there is a chance the PC Community can once again save a SD game…

but i doubt it, only a handful of gamers i know are still active in Brink- the others are long gone… never to return or buy a SD game without a demo… they feel SD sold its ‘gaming soul to console’… and patch can’t fix that… :frowning:

(yoomazir) #67

the momentum for Brink is gone and nothing will change that from now on.
Like I said in a previous topic, Splash Damage may want to focus for 1-2 months on fixing Brink but then they should quickly start working on a new game with, hopefully, learning the lessons from Brink and avoid these HUGE mistakes for their next title.

(limpy) #68

love how every one wants to down this game and move on, but move on to what, this game has some great features to it. Needs some balancing, but it runs tens better than bfbc2 did went it came out. The Hit rego is good, which is the number one important thing in a fps. After 50patches bfbc2 hitbox fix was to make it 10 times bigger.
I don’t need 20000 winging bitches to have a good time playing this game, so **** off to cod if you don’t like this game.

(virtus) #69

i loved the game when it came out. i just hated the other players no1 wanted to work as a team so they got slaughtered so those 15000 that left good ridens now we can play the game it was meant to be played as a team

(Herandar) #70

What games get significantly faster updates? What would be an acceptable update speed for users?

Remember Splash Damage is a small developer, and patches need to be certified by the consoles before they can be released on them.

Well sir I am sure there are some (probably only a few tbh these days). I think in the older days this was more an accurate picture. The games had less files, code, etc.

My question then is why the patches need to be certified by the consoles?
I do not think that applies to PC right? And the PC seems the slowest of the 3.

(virtus) #72

@legend123: think for a moment what would piss you off more. waiting for an update that consoles and pc get at the same time. or another platform getting before you and still have to wait

(HomersGhost) #73

And that’s what murdered them. They needed more developers on the payroll and they should have stuck to one platform (which is probably unrealistic from a publisher’s perspective). Instead they jumped out of the gate with broken multiplayer for consoles and terrible bot AI for single player. Add to that a bunch of controversial design choices and they pretty much jumped off the dock with a boulder tied to their leg. You can’t blame people for selling it off.

For me, this really puts a dark cloud over Bethesda as a publisher. They continue to push out buggy crap time and time again. After this fiasco, I cancelled my Rage preorder and I won’t touch the next elder scrolls for at least a year. I’m tired of paying to be a beta tester.

Weird to see a game go dead… 3-4 weeks after its release… many said ETQW is dead… Ok maybe i was daydreaming when i was playing last year and having to get in queue to have a server slot… Many left after their final patch because they felt betrayed by the nerf they did on some vehicules ( aka aircrafts ownage). It didnt went dead, it was purged of all the players we didnt want to see playing on the QW servers. And all of us who enjoyed objective/teamplay based game were happy to play, because we didnt had to deal with a majority of DM or TDM player type (sorry COD/halo style…) but with a minority we could just ignore or kick away.

brink is dead if a patch is not released soon? What you wanna have it next week? Maybe getting a programming degree? No? LOL!!! The game was already delayed for 2 seasons or 5-6 months, having trouble porting on PC or something, i think they did their best (SD) to release it ASAP since they made us wait at the last minute.

I know GS a bit, ive played with him in many games on ETQW, even having spots in his tutorial videos to my own surprise. He is a great player, he makes good critics on games, he helped lower the learning curve on ETQW and many other stuff. If Grease is getting on the Brink boat, It MEANS something here… Grease wouldnt lose his time over a fail game. And ive met Dommafia from ETQW also, with whom ive played a lot too ( well getting owned by him is more accurate ). That guy is a legend to us in ETQW, so does Dom is dumb enough to spend time on a failed game, as busy as he is?

All i see here, and on many other threads, is people being " victims" of the high learning curve Brink has. The game is quite tough to master, there are many concept that we see only in Brink, which means NEW styles of play and a lot of practice time. Hell took me 2 days of offline play to be able to survive more than 30 secs online. Hey you can die faster than saying PUTA! " that game is so fails, i cant win the game by being rambo lonewolf!!! * cries on his mom’s lap * Life isnt fair, you have to get better by practicing or get yourself a gay aimbot to make yourself feel better with your E-pen.

Brink is nice, BF3 doesnt have my attention, i wont be able to jump around and slide for cover or fall on enemies and knock them back. Brink is my kind of game: tough, new genre and hard to learn giving me a challenge .

A HERD OF FILTHY BEASTS!!!

(Oschino1907) #75

@Ero-Sennin, thank you, you got it right this time! Lol!

I agree with BF3, I loved BFBC2 but their were more then enough problems to make me want to rip my hair out at times especially when playing with lone wolf randoms on Objective modes. I played mostly on Hardcore which def had a better crowd but still more then enough cheap things to ruin matches from time to time. BF3 just scares me as i worry they are going to much in the COD direction and feel the Console version will be a ripoff compared to PC. BF3 is on my radar but no where near pre order stage till i get alot more info on it. I do have Rage pre ordered though!

(HomersGhost) #76

The learning curve wasn’t the problem with Brink. It was the state of the game on arrival (at least on the XBox). The lag was absolutely horrific. Matches were unplayable and the lack of a lobby system was also killer for us (seven of us partied up on launch). We got annihilated by the bots but that was more learning the ropes. The following week, we owned the bots map after map. We just couldn’t play against another team because of the lag and when we did get a match going, we were split upin different teams. It was infuriating.

The third week, we were back to Left 4 Dead and Bad Company 2 and most of my crew ended up trading it in. There were plenty of side grips (turrets being total crap, maps being chokepoint fests, leveling up for clothes, etc). But we “got” the game, it’s just the game didn’t “get” us because it didn’t work as it should (lag free, party accessible). Had it hit those basic marks, we might have stuck it out.

But most of us has kids now so when we get together online, we want to have fun. Not curse at the flatscreen. I personally think Brink has potential (which is why I’m posting) and once SD gets their house in order, I might pick it up again. Time will tell.

Yeah i know what it is to have not much time to play, i got 3 kiddos at home who said that im the “intergalactic coolest Dad ever” which takes a lot of time out of my spare times.

Back to your posting ghost, sucks playing on console huh? I got a PC since PSX went out, no regrets on throwing away gaming console outta my life. Im a huge gamer since NES went out, played EVERY console that went out (even the first atari console lol!!). PC are nice gaming platform and with my 1.0 gbps connection, i get minimal lag when i get some… Try Brink on PC, you will see what i mean…

XBOX LIVE deserves Filthy beast token! :stroggtapir:

(Kurushi) #78

It’s early days, I think people are still waiting for things to iron out. This list doesn’t mean much when you think what it’s up against and how long the game’s actually been out.

What’s depressing is the people that hang around these forums just to put the game down, move on, get a girlfriend or something

(Ero-Sennin) #79

Great idea! Oh shots!!! i already got 3 kids, i guess i got a wife instead of a girlfriend. Seriously, to the last poster, WELL SAID MY FRIEND!!!

Killer penguin token for you! :penguin:

Pulled from an earlier post in this thread: Now the lag’s fixed and it’s great

Thats bull. . . . for XB360 anyway. I’m still waiting to get into matches with any regularity at all that don’t make me seasick from all the jumping and skipping around. I feel like I’ve paid $60.00 for a prick teasing glimpse of a game that could be fun to play if it only worked correctly in the arena it was intended for and supposedly developed for - multiplayer.

This perpetual inability to give me a complete hour or two worth smooth playing matches cannot be tolerated and shrugged off for much longer at all. It’s inexcusable. None of my other games do this. It’s not my connection. It’s coding and design inadequacies. Woof Woof Woof
