Brad Oliver of Westlake has offered to port the Mac version

(Emon) #41

Well, there are several ports of some very popular games such as UT and Q3 that only have a small installer that uses the Win32 disc. I know myself and many other Linux gamers also have Windows installed, simply because we’re gamers and we need Windows. If we already own UT or Q3, we can just pop the disc in and run some script or installer and be playing on Linux in no time.

Now, I’m not sure if there’s anything like this for the Mac, but I know a good portion of Linux gamers probably comes from stuff like this.

If you ask me, which nobody did, the decision to make ET free was so they could steal half life players away from the community to boost sales of Doom 3. My little conspiracy theory.

(CannonFodder) #43

Since I haven’t heard anything back from one contact at iD, I’ve since emailed another. I’ll let you all know what I find out.

But seriously  If any of you guys with Splash Damage have any suggestions/advice you wish to give to me, please do so

(Woodman) #44

So…any new word?

Another thought. (Although if it is possible, I’m sure it would already have been suggested & done) But here it is anyway.

Assuming that a Mac with OSX can install & run Linux OS. (I believe this to be true even though I have not tried it) Can the Linux OS take advantage of the graphics card, thus enabling us to play the Linux release?

:???:

Oh, & here is a dancing Banana

(Dahmian) #45

Nope, the linux version is compiled for x86 not powerPC, I myself thought what you suggested was possible until I was corrected. Sorry :frowning:

Alright, it’s come to this. It’s time for Mac gamers to stand together & unite!!
By signing this petition you are not only fighting for the release of Mac ET,
but also for Mac gaming equality that is much too slow in developing.

                                                 http://www.PetitionOnline.com/MacET/petition.html

                                                 Let's "Mac" some noise!

If some punk posts something stupid, take the high road. Fighting will only
                                                 cause illegitamacy of the petition.

I Encourage our PC friends to support us. We miss TKing you & I'm sure you miss gibbing us.

this needs to be shown around the fourms

(bani) #48

my condolences

(bani) #49

i wouldnt bet on valve releasing hl2 for anything other than windows. they are pretty much a windows-only camp.

(PoisedNoise) #50

An excellent idea, but why does the petition limit signatories to Mac users? Atm it is discouraging helpful pc gamers from signing. Surely the argument for mac ports: “the more the merrier” is just as applicable to this petition? We need all the help we can get here.

15 votes in 3 days, I hope to fuck some clever boy had the clever idea of posting that link in a mac related site otherwise the voting pressure will reach boiling point at the end of the decade, shit some of those mac users will be dead then.

I’m afraid it isn’t going to happen people, live with it or get a PC and for fucks sake stop whining IT’S TEDIOUS and starting to look VERY foolish.

This quote from the site makes me so happy to have my PC,

"To my Mac brothers:
Our numerous forum threads have gone unheard. Our pleas have been ignored. Now we’ll let them know the strength of our numbers! "

sigh it’s just so pathetic.

(PoisedNoise) #52

Ok, I suspect that this forum is about to get locked, and regardless I certainly do not intend to post again after this one.

Smyler, I understand the economics, and if ET were a commercial release I think all mac users would accept that it might not be ported. The fact however that it would cost nothing to release the source code to a reputable man such as Brad Oliver, and yet apparently it is not going to be done is what incenses me. This refusal suggests to me that the deep-seated hatred which you clearly have for anyone who does not use the same computer platform as yourself is not by any means unique. I cannot for the life of me understand why you feel so threatened by the small mac-using minority that you feel the need to be so consistently rude.

As I have mentioned before (albeit in another thread), there are many of us mac-users who have no choice about using macs - the programs we need are available for mac only. The fact that many of us happen also to like our machines and find using a stable UNIX-based OS a satisfying experience is neither here nor there.

Fair enough, if I really wanted to play ET I could buy a pc and place it next to my mac, but frankly I don’t have the money or room, and I really don’t care about it that much. And yes, I acknowledge that if that’s the case then maybe I should just shutup and accept that incomprehensible though it may be the source code is not going to be released. So shutup I will.

Right, your turn Smyler - flame away to your heart’s content. I do hope though that the day will come when people can finally put this silly “my machine’s better than yours” crap to bed, even if it leaves you Smyler with no meaning to your life. I have a dream.

over and out. :drink:

([=O=]SMYLER) #53

Oh yeah I can see you furiously typing, I’m off to play ET, never see ya later matey.

(VeNGeR) #54

wow what a rude guy…

anyhow…

I wish some people would get together and post some news on this topic.
I really would like to see a port of this game to OSX. I only play 1 game at the moment and thats RTCW. I am a member of a well established RTCW clan(we been around since wolf beta)
check us out at http://lunyfam.breezeland.com/index.php?view=news

anyways I see a lot of people wanting this port here on this forum and on IMG. I am a bit curious as to why the code cannot be given out to a person willing to port it (like RTCW was given out to modders) and why the Q3 engine cannot be reverse engineered? I think thats kind of what they did for WT.(I may be wrong on this)

That guy brad oliver seemed like a nice enough guy and he says he has worked with the Q3 engine, why not send him the damn NDA and get the ball rolling. I know SD has no officail say in any of this, but I am SURE that you guys know people and that there is enough chatter going on that one of you could pick up the phone and make the phone call to your connection at id.

anyways I hear it’s a great game

stop buy here and play it with my clan mates, we have an ET server

Smyler is rude to everyone. It’s his way of saying he likes you

Either that or he is a horrible horrible man who should be incinerated by a flamethrower-noob.

([=O=]SMYLER) #56

"wow what a rude guy… "

Crikey !! I didn’t think he meant me.

I do so like it when delicate people happen across my colourful exchanges, imagine if this thread hadn’t have been edited by the management (just prior to my last post) detailing how I much of a life I in fact do have. Sigh…not only nazis in the game then (no offence mods I just have a mental image of you all dressed up in leather with jack boots on being particularily strict with people and whipping the side of your own legs a lot with those little whippy things).

You kinky bitch

(DasMonkey) #58

well here’s a suggestion, to cover the costs of the QA or whatever… Maker the Mac’ers pay for their version, It’d be like their penance for not owning a PC.

And it’s not an irrational thought here… if they want it that bad, it could be an option/proposal.

(amazinglarry) #59

good times.

([=O=]SMYLER) #60

Yeah but they’d have to sign up in advance so the relatively HUGE monetary amount can be split amongst them. I wouldn’t wish such a huge bill on anyone.

Also Wraith man, dreaming of leather is quite innocent, it’s when that leather is combined with a good old coating of lard, thats when things start gettin’ kinky. Well, in my book anyway.

The title of the book I have is “Janet and John can’t be arsed doing childish things for the kids reading enjoyment anymore so they started a leather and lard fetish club”.
