BFBC2 vs ETQW

(BMXer) #61

It feels like FFOW 2 IMO. Crap console port is what it seems like to me. What a joke.
The movement is horrible. The shooting is horrible. The graphics are ok at best. The vehicles are slow and sloppy. Everyone is a sniper. Its just so slow it drives me crazy! O, and did I mention the shooting is terribad? Even the menus are bad!

The 1 and only thing that I liked at all was the destructible environment. It was cool to see the map start and have everything in place and after a full hold on the first objective (because the movement, shooting and vehicles are so bad) everything was a wasteland. All the building, fences and objects had been destroyed after fighting over the first objective for so long. It constantly changed the fight at the objective. Cool but it didn’t make up for the entire clips I had to spray into the noobs points blank to get kills because aim means nothing in that craptastic game.

Being spoiled by id games is really something isn’t it :stroggbanana:.
The people say the games are different. Where the hell is the threshold when you’d say the games are different and when not? To me ETQW and BC2 are more similar than different. The only huge difference is physics/movement. It is indeed much slower than ETQW or W:ET. Teamwork is needed IMHO not much more than in ETQW where you CAN’T win by just being a medic as you say. As for my first impression (and yes, I haven’t played much yet), I do not see so far any innovation in gameplay etc, other than a certain amount of destructible objects, when comparing to ETQW. It is negligible though to an amount of such objects the Red Faction game had. Maybe I will see such “innovation” later.

Now questions, if anyone knows:

 • I can’t sprint and strafe simultaneously. Me or feature?
 • Grenades don’t prime (cook) ?
 • No chat/VoIP/voicechats working?
 • Console to disable annoying headbob?

Thx in advance.
I explained why I thought it was different.

-feature(or bug) either way thats what it does
-can prime
-works
-dunno haven’t got that far yet

TBH I noticed something odd last night playing medic. If you semi auto fire with the saw you can actually kill quicker than auto firing. I think honestly its because it only registers one shot every Milli second or something. I haven’t quite figured it out yet. Pretty sure its a bug.

Did you play the ETQW public beta? Firefights were absolutely random and it was fixed in the final version. Finding bugs and glitches is what it’s for.

And I am arguing with that
I think they are not enough different to be different

I think I read in the ingame adviser that shooting short bursts like 3 bullets is much more accurate than long rounds (as afaik in ETQW as well btw), if that’s what you mean.

(BMXer) #65

Yes, I played in both public ETQW betas. The game comes out in just about 1 month and they have A LOT of work to do it get it to compare to even ETQW’s beta2 IMO. They call this a “beta” but be real here. How much are they really going to change in 1 month? Not much I dont think. I will still feel like FFOW 2 on release date, mark my words.

No, it seems to happen with me in about a ten-twenty yard proximity or even melee range. I can unload on a guy and he won’t die in 4-5 hits. When I semi fire however, shots get registered I guess. Like I’ll be sitting about 60 yards away and beable to take down anyone with an assault rifle pretty easy with burst firing. In close quarters is different and nearly requires a whole clip like in melee range.

Downloaded the PC beta last night and have put a few hours into it since then and I have to say I like it.

I don’t really care about the graphics, but it plays smoothly and looks good enough for me. I would like to see some textures redone to look better, but who knows if that’s really the final rock texture, lol. I’m glad the whole map isn’t opened up at the start as that makes it a lot more fun for me, although ET:QW was the exception to that.

I’m really confused on why you all are complaining about the guns as my medic ones are great. I can hip fire, scope, etc., and either way as long as I burst fire my shots register. I do notice a little bit of horrible spread sometimes, but I’m really going to say that’s just me being shocked when someone sneaks up behind me.

The audio is the one thing I’m a little iffy on; I’m not a huge audio person, but I really didn’t like how everything seemed at one distance even if it was really close to me.

I’ve had some good games and I’m glad I bought the game last night; haven’t really seen too many fullholds on the first objectives, normally getting all the way to the end and then winning or losing as the tickets are about to run out.

havent played it,
but from the videos alone, etqw wins for style.

Not a fan of realism (speed/sights)
rtcw/etqw/wet are more my game.
its not about comparing 2 games LOL
for me, etqw is dead game. and the future is in BFBC2 and in BRINK.
ETQW is like ghost hunter game now…
Meh…

No vehicles in Brink so my interest is guarded, vehicles in BFBC2 are reasonably balanced in my limited experience. Yes ETQW is the greatest game I have EVA played but as someone else said its getting hard to get a game going some nights. BFBC2 does not quite have the complexity of ETQW IMHO… But it’s not far off and the squad dynamic and spawn concept is attractive. What does it avail me to to choose a custom tattoo for my avatars right butt cheek when I could be driving a TANK!

Oh its an IRONSIGHTS game that’s for sure, spreads worse than crunchy peanut butter on normal fire and burst is fine if you have a lot of patience but the weapon unlocks do hold better guns out for those with the time to accumulate sufficient points. I prefer ETQW’s even play-field that offers limited campaign rewards rather than persistent upgrades. This allows the gamer with less game time (due to RL commitments (i.e. damn work)) to still "keep up with the Jones’ " even if you don’t have the time commitment to the game that others may have (lucky bastards).

Just my 2 bits worth. I’ll be playing BFBC2 if my clan mates also come along but I won’t uninstall ETQW, she’s a stately old broad these days but she still gets my heart thumping.

Splash Damage, why did you forsake us? The thrill of a Armadillo spree :armadillochase: cant be substituted by a SIMS style avatar selection process. I call this thing as I see it, a fad that will not make any appreciable contribution to what I play games for… the enjoyment of playing the game. I’ll leave handbag and matching pistol selection to my wife. ETQW is fun in a bottle and sophisticated fun at that, I cant write off BRINK in all conscience as I have of course not seen it, but what I have seen looks good but not up to ETQW standards. Maybe SD have already peaked and just not realised it. Mores the pity for us. There is of course ETQW2, go on SD you know you want to.

looks like really poor rego, local server or high ping? I’d advise sending them the clip with your feedback, maybe save us all from some issues with the netcode?

Hit registration with the tank is much better  if that’s any consolation.

You would think most people who enjoyed ETQW for its objective gameplay, would also appreciate Brink for the same reason. They are fundamentally the same in that respect. And I would say, from what SD have divulged, there are many other gameplay mechanics from ETQW that also exist in Brink - just done differently.

Think of it like a new position with your wife, instead of thinking its a completely new woman.

(Joe999) #73

just tried bc2 and must say it sucks. gaming business is a tough one. 30 minutes of buggy, laggy gameplay of a beta in which i died by mostly getting sniped down made me ragequit. i won’t take another look at that game. map design is poor. it’s very open and the colors are too mono and much too bright. there’s no tutorial of what i’m supposed to do. when i run out of the spawn in order to try stuff, i’m already dead because some retard has fun in sniping other players down.

and speaking of bc2 vs etqw, this gameplay video looks very familiar:

edit: here’s an image. why is everything so bright? the pole behind the tank barrel shines like it were radioactive or sth

(Seanza) #74

EA have online authentication which means you don’t have to do that : )

(Joe999) #75

i have to add: when the game writes “EPIC FAIL” multiple times for a first time gamer who doesn’t know anything about restrictions and such, it’s not very motivating to continue playing when i look at how the game itself fails for me. this is something you can write in a mod imo, but not in a retail game

I agree, but its just that I like to DRIVE to the objective and potentially run a few people over on the way. As I said I have not written it off but it’ll have to have more than funny stick on mustaches to keep me interested.

Although I would like to reserve a groucho mustache if I may pls SD?

Look for the setting to switch off “bloom”, I think that’s what is burning your retinas.

It’s a battlefield game, patch support for the previous games was mediocre at best from what I’ve gathered.

General rant: Nothing will be fixed if no one reports issues. It’s that kind of attitude that already pissed me off in the ETQW beta. Too many ignorant / stupid people judging the beta as a final game and completely missing the point of it.

After the initial hits, you missed so badly that it isn’t completely their fault. Also if you notice he pops in because he spawned on one of his squad mates/that’s where you actually spawn, I haven’t read anything about it but maybe it’s spawn protection because I remember not being able to kill someone as soon as he spawned in.

I can’t believe people are whining over being told they epic fail at a game; get your ego over it, it’s just for laughs. When I was told that on my 360 I laughed because what I did was really an epic fail.
