SD’s first Developer Diary

just one quote:

Unfortunately, sometimes effort isn’t all you need – sometimes you just need more time. To ensure the quality we want, we’ve decided to push the release out of 2006 to allow for extended testing, feedback and game balancing.

Comes with 2 new screenshots (brilliant ingame screeny)

If you find this Developer Diary interesting, cool or worth reading please be so nice and vote for it. Thank You.

…and now you can start crying :frowning:

a shame, but balance is everything.

“The end result in all of this, though, is that ETQW will feature incredibly focused gameplay balance. For us, this is not just a goal, but rather a design imperative that drives every element of ETQW’s multiplayer combat.”

sad news on the delay, but hopefully luck goes their way (and ours) and they can crank out balancing it out quickly. But man, that snow screenshot looks freakin amazing.

(Darth) #5

sigh, so knew this would happen. all those game stores changing their dates all if a sudden

(jimb0) #6

Sad news, but the lesser of two evils. I very much appreciate that they take the time to finish it right instead of rushing it out of the doorr.

(Centurion) #7

Bad move to say “Coming 2006”. Better to not say anything at all like Id usually does. That being said I’d rather have a quality product than a good game that’s filled with bugs like BF2.

(fKd) #8

no matter how long they say they are working on it to fix and balance/bugs… you just know… 2-4 weeks after the release there will be like a 50-100 meg patch  bwahahahaha

(SniperSteve) #9

:frowning: This is sad… Perhaps they will release a beta soon?

On the upside, the screenshots look very good.

(fKd) #10

i’m intreged how both teams have obj’s unlike w:et (one team defends/attacks etc) will work out? should make pub servers a bit more entertaining… ppl will have to play and use team work instead of just turning the game into dm… interesting indeed.

(Joe999) #11

yesterday i’ve seen a bf2142 dev diary (not that i’ve read it, only seen that it exists) and thought why doesn’t SD have such one? now there is one and i realize it contains stuff i don’t want to read …

anyway … when it’s done is always good. i think i can live with a demo for a few months … DEMO, guys!!! DEMO!!! bring it on … well, actually it will be a beta test as it seems, hopefully it comes right after quakecon

(Hakuryu) #12

I’m glad the game will come out balanced, but the delay sucks :frowning:

Looks like there is more detail in that one winter tree than in a whole ET map lol.

(SniperSteve) #13

The quality of the tree, and the snow effects made me cold.

(datoo) #14

I agree with Nail on this one. I actually don’t mind at all – I’ve got shit to accomplish in my life right now, and Quake Wars would probably take up too much of my time. Reading about how the amount of work going into balancing one QW map is equivalent to 4 W:ET maps makes me smile.

This day, the 11th of July 2006, will be marked as a truly sad day. The day when it was known that the game that will rid all opposition was to be pushed back beyond our grasp. Another year of EA control, another year of total and utter crapiness…

(Schizma) #16

sigh those screens heighten my fear of my video card not being able to run this.

(corvey) #17

BOO-FUCK’IN-HOO

WHINE, CRY, AND MOPE

TRULY A SAD DAY TO KNOW MY GAME WON’T BE HERE BY X-MAS :(.

But in all honesty, if it takes longer to get it right, then so be it. This game needs to be right on release day. This game will go down in history as one of the most popular games of all times because it was done properly and utterly beautiful.

(CrazyGuy) #18

I rather have an balanced gameplsy then a slaughtered fest of one sided.

Take your time SD.

(Darth) #19

Yup I also prefer them taking their time as long as they dont pull a Duke Nukem Foreeer

(taken) #20

Sad, but if the devs. need more time then we just have to wait.

The importent thing here is to get a great game, not a betafield.
