Beta, Screens and 2007

And you’ll also have more time tp upgrade your PC for ETQW!

(GlobalWar) #22

Take your time guys

I think it’s also good for marketing to delay. A lot of the gamers will buy BF2142 because of the Marketing Machine of EA, which is (face it) far better then Activisions so when they are released together it’s not good for QW.
Released a few months after Buggafield2142 will make more BF players look at QW when it is released.

Good move but to bad i have to wait…maybe a demo very soon?

I’m a little bit unsure if it’s possible at all to balance games with more than one class and / or more than one weapon type.

Until release I’m trying to get my feet wet with learning how to mod D3-engine games.

And in the meanwhile we could all Prey until the game will be released.

(kamikazee) #24

FYI : I tried the Prey MP demo on my Geforce 1, and it runs. (Barely playable, but it’s a start)
I was actually able to win some rounds against my brother who has a Radeon 9800, so it’s not unplayable, just harder.

This doesn’t say things about ET:QW, but it shows that cards well below the minimum work too.

(Kendle) #25

Damn, looks like I’m sticking with DOD:S for another 6 months then :frowning:

(Pillsbury) #26

Oh well… At least they’re not jumping on the ship-it-now-and-patch-it-later bandwagon like so many others have. I was looking forward to cruising thru the holidays with this game. However i’m so f***ing tired of buying game-X then having to wait months for “the patch” to fix crap that should’ve been fixed before it even shipped. If waiting till early next year (or even longer) will help ensure I get an awesome out-of-the-box experience than i’m all for it.

(Lanz) #27

I actually bought DOD:S today after the free weekend they had now, it growed on me so I guess I’ll waste my time with that untill something better shows up.

shit :frowning:

Thats what i was thinking to!

(Shaderman) #30

To ensure the quality

Everything else is unimportant IMO

(ToonarmY) #31

Will be making a new pc in 2007 anyway lots of ram and to lovely DX10 SLI cards :). Should run qw a piece of cake

(Desoxy) #32

Well, if I had to choose between having a game with unbalanced gameplay earlier or a game with balanced gameplay later, I choose latter.
It really would be harder to desperately wait for a patch with having an unplayable game at hand.

And well, I won’t listen to any possible release dates anyway - I just expect to read that it’s gone gold one day, whenever that might be.

(Although, when reading Paul Wedgewood’s statement that they can’t playtest ETQW with “dozens of automated chess computers”, the question rose why they don’t have a bigger closed/open beta test, but I guess this will only be a matter of time.)

(!ntraxz) #33

i don’t like this… but it gives me some time to save some money for a new video card.

I am glad somone brought that up. EA markets their stuff so well, everyone buys it, and plays it for a month or two. ET:QW will come out right after players start leaving BF2142, and will flock to RT:QW.

This does bring up another question: Since it is being delayed to 2007, will it support DX10? How about PhysX cards? You have some free time on the dev’s hands now.

(MuffinMan) #35

I thought DX10 needs windows vista? don’t think it will be included already

(figvam) #36

FTA:

Matches are balanced internally, but we know that a larger community of players can develop more strategies and exploits in a week than internal testing can discover in a month.

And their answer to this is:

gut-feeling, passionate theoretical debate, iterative revision, thousands of hours of human playtesting, and yet more animated discussion.
so really nothing more than a several months delay to allow for exploits finding.
Why not release a demo/beta instead, so the game gets a much needed “larger community of players” beating? Methinks it’s a quicker route than “the thousands of hours” of internal playtesting.

(RosOne) #37

Don’t forget to get a 1000W PSU with that…

(Desoxy) #38

Well, a demo should allow you to get an impression of the game (therefor it’s not used for finding bugs  ).
And a beta will be released - I don’t think that any game today (especially one focused on online multiplayer) can be released without an appropriate beta test. Yet it should be a closed one, so that several “versions” of gameplay can be tested easily and without the whole community complaining at every change.

Yes, it needs Vista. But vista is launching early 2007. Dev tools are already availible for DX10. So they can add a little extra for the DX10 if they wanted to.

(ayatollah) #40

Is it not an OpenGL based game?
