Battery

(Boeiend) #1

what is the fun of this map?

if u play it vs a good team of axis it is impossible to destroy the gun controls…

Backdoor -> useless if no axis drops down the beach…
ramp -> field op spam should hold this one pretty much and just get a cvop to satchel it the whole time -> means they have to construct it 2 times…

(DrGratis) #2

And yet I have seen Allied win this map.

But it is usually through the back door…

I think the key is the allied have to focus ALL efforts on the front door UNTIL they get an axis corpse or two… they the should switch…

too many allied waiting by the back door is a waste…

Allied Formula:

Covert snipers and Soldiers with PF to kill axis in bunker.

Field ops and Mortars to keep the rocks clear.

Eng and Medics to build the ramp and get up it.

(IF german corpse uniform taken, THEN part of the team can go for the back door…)

I agree that on pubs this is a difficult map for allies if no axis are stupid enough to go down the beach or go through the back door.

However, with a decent mortar, a field ops giving artillery on the top and a panzer keeping the spawnbunker clear you should be able to build a bridge and steal a uniform.

But this is not all that easy, and neither is getting inside the base, as there is only one real entrance near the spawnbunker (unless the door with the switch has been openend but even that doesn’t help much) and it’s very defendable for axis. That’s why 90% of the times when allies win, they have gone through the backdoor. But then, put one panzer/flamer/mg42 soldier near that backdoor and it’s pretty well defended. That guy has a boring game though

I think bunker is a great map, my only concern is that imo the ramp is slightly 2 easy to blow up. maybe it should take 2 or more satchel packs to destroy it.

ME and my m8s excell at winning assault gun in less than 5 minutes as allies, and never go thru back door.

Dunno why people keep starting threads about this map being impossible to win as allies, I have honestly never lost as allies on this map.

(hummer) #6

You’ve never played against me then… I never lose on this map as Axis

(Freedom[]Tickler) #7

Then I look forward to it hummer, beacuse Ive almost never been on a server where axis plays D and defends the gun controls.

I always win b/c pub servers have too few players who play D, plus the fact I am so Fn good : )

I’ve seen Allies win this map many times. Sometimes its down to the allies just being good, but usually its down to the Axis players not taking notice of things. For example, when you hear “Generator destroyed” the logical course of action would be:

  1. Run to Gun Controls room and clear out any allies and dynamite

  2. Rebuild the generator and close the doors

but usually nobody takes any notice whatsoever. Everyone is too busy trying to attack the allies coming up the beach and retake the bunker than actually defending the objective.

Even when you hear “dynamite planted” on the gun controls, no engineer bothers to go diffuse it. Everyone just gathers at the front door as usual, seemingly oblivious.

I try to get things done, but its hard for one person to do everything, against a whole team of allies. Sometimes you’ll get Axis players who really understand how to play the map, then you get a really fun game.

I understand that some people are new, and might not know what to do. I try and give friendly advice to them (which is hard to do when your getting shot at) such as: “Dont open the back door, theres absolutely no need. You’ll justend up letting the allies in”, “Dont rush down the beach, its unneccesary. They’ll get your uniform.” and “I need a couple of engineers to come with me to the generator/gun room” but more often than not, it just gets ignored.

This happened earlier (pretty much word-for-word):

Me: “Don’t open the back door”
Someguy: “Why?”

The generator has been destroyed
me and another guy run to gun room, and engineer runs to generator (OMG THREE people who know what to do!)
we kill the 2 allies in the gun room and the generator is rebuilt. We close the doors and check for allies

Me and another guy: “DON’T OPEN THE BACK DOOR!”
Someguy: “Why not?”
Me and another guy: “The allies will get in”
Someguy: “I’ll do what I want”

about 2 minutes later, the allies win

Me: “You opened the back door didnt you?”
Someguy: “yes :(”

It was pretty funny I’d have to admit, but it just illustrates the fact that sometimes you need to accept other peoples advice.

This wasnt really directed at anyone, it was just something I wanted to say.

umm…carry on

First… the description of Wraith2K3 is perfect  Axis don t care

I found battery more fun when opening backdoor.
Killing allies with mg, throwing nades or planting land mines near the west bunker. Constructing command post…
( Let me say that the mg of west bunker seems to be always deadly … for the machine gunner )

Hit and run …
Cos’ if you defend back door too carefully … We all know how the round will end :bored:
Except when allies are good enough to reach the gun from Forward bunker

When I prone on the floor with a mg waiting for allies coming from outside, with teammates very carreful, minutes seem to last longer … So why not have some fun ?

I usually open the backdoor on this level, I don’t usually let in allies when doing so. This level is so damn tedious as it is, and it’s mindnumbingly dull if you as Axis just hide out of sight at the top of the beach area like you should.

Yes Axis are more likely to lose if you open the back door, but this is supposed to be a game, and games are supposed to be fun, and hiding in a hole running out every 30 seconds to throw an airstrike is not in any way fun.

(Awol) #11

If the allies have a good covert op and engineer working together Allies will always win Battery. Why? Cause there is always 1 stupid axis who will go down on teh beach or out the back door to hand over a uniform to teh allies. Never fails. Clan games might be different would be interesting to see what would happen. But Pubs unless the allies have no team they will win due to axis being stupid.

Also about people not going to diffuse the dynamite… The map has a bug and sometimes it doesn’t say its been planted. I watched an ally engineer plant it and I didn’t hear a thing as an axis.

(Cyber-Knight) #12

it’s unlikely taht your entire team missed the dyno message.

Then it’s up to some ppl to spam “Disarm the dynamite!” and “Defend our objective!” and “We need an engineer” so ppl get the right idea.

but yes, ppl don’t seem to respond to those voice chat sometimes either. Until the “Allies Win!” screen shows up.

(kyleb) #13

no one even has to go onto the beach to give up a uniform, as soon as a covert makes it up the ramp he can come back down with one. even if that doesn’t go, a few well placed airstrikes/artilleries/mortars are bound to send bodies onto the beach. also that it is best that axis go out the back door, to take the command post so the allies have less to work with. not to mention mining the hell out of the back path gives you a sure tip-off if there is incoming from the rear.

(Freedom[]Tickler) #14

The key to this map is defending the gun controls, which pub players never do as axis. Its easier to go thru front while axis is spawn camping and defending the flag room. I do it all the time, almost everytime.

When I play axis, I patrol alot, with teammates ( I hate joining pub games alone ) and yes, someone shld go out back and build and defend the command post. As long as players are patroling and minding gun controls, w/ a medic/eng team, you can lock it down.

Ultimately pub games become unbalanced by n00bs, we shld start an ET pickup chan in irc. Maybe we can come up w/ some passworded servers and fill them up w/ experienced players and have some mean throw down fights.

(ExPLiCiT) #15

Its been posted many times but I will mention it again: try out ND80’s Knute Rockne or The Grotto, in the evening knute is passworded and I have played some real good matches on there.

(Mainline) #16

As far as battery is concerned, well placed airstrikes and mortors will send the Axis running for cover.

(Lt. Jones) #17

Tonight I took a uniform from an Axis next to the bunker entrance, went back on the beach all the way around to the back door, and let four of my teammates in to win the map. There was nothing the axis could do after 2 engineers planted at the gun and were being supported by a medic and a covert op.

(Vaticool) #18

Each time, I played Allies on this map, I managed to get a uniform because:

1- Some Axis ran down to the beach attacking spawn
OR
2- We capture forward bunker and I got a uniform near Forward Bunker or in corridor of base

Let’s say Axis body is thrown in the air and land on the beach (Allies Air Strike)
My question is : how long will this uniform be available for Allies cov ops :???:

I played a games as Axis where generator has been blasted 3 times and Axis won the game <- this one was really fun. Many Allies engineers dead in base

(octalc0de) #19

Excellent game I played today on Battery. I was hanging around the back door, when I planted dynamite on the Southeast (?) Axis MG Nest. Some guy thought it would be a GOOD IDEA to open up the back door and defuse the dynamite… :blah: So I decided to RUN IN THE BACK DOOR, forgetting about everyone firing at me, and managed to get to the gun control room with 2 hp remaining. Of course, if someone came now, or if I messed up going down the ladder and fell, I would’ve died. Nothing happened. I planted the dynamite, and a MEDIC (OMG OMG) comes over and kills me. 30 seconds later, CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR PROMOTION!

:notworthy: Didn’t even need a uniform.

(Brinkman) #20

TNT should be the only thing that can distory the bridge

or maybe if you can reinforce it so that only TNT can distory it

i’ve only seen allies win by not going through back door once…

every other time the only way they’ve won was from the bakc door thing…

so like half hte map isn’t even used
