Banned.. accused of using bot.. plz review demos

(jcaleb) #1

Hey there… I was banned last night from a server I like to play on – unfortunately everyone believed I was using a bot. However I was recording demos proving that wasn’t true. Some of the admins didn’t strike me as being as knowledgable as most of the players here. Obviously, you guys have a lot of experience with bot users – knowing how they track, what to look for – so I was wondering if some of the more knowledgeable people here might take a moment to download and watch one of my demos and post your opinion as to whether I using a bot or not.

Basically, I’d like to send the link to this thread to the server admins who banned me… hopefully they’ll respect the judgment of some of the more experienced players who frequent these forums.

Thanks for any help…

Link to demo is: http://www.joshuacaleb.com/demos/fun-07-fueldump.zip

P.S. Demos were recorded on a ShrubET server, so you’ll need to have that installed in order to watch the demo. (It’s installed automatically if you’ve ever played on a ShrubET server) You’ll need to make a shortcut to ET and add +set fs_game shrubet to the target line (under shortcut properties) in order to be able to see the demos in your replay list (once you drop them in the demos folder in your shrubet folder).

FWIW, shrub is server only, so you can use etmain for demo playback.

(Ifurita) #3

What kind of alleged hack did they ban you for? Wallhack, aimbot, brightness hack?

(Enoch) #4

Aimbot (which I find ridiculous… especially considering that several of them were spectating me the whole time). Unfortunately, I don’t think they even know what they should even be looking for.

I plan on referencing this thread from now on whenever the topic comes up (i.e., just post a link to here and upload a demo to my site whenever the cheating accusations start flying). I’m hoping that when some of the more knowledgable guys on these forums say my aim is legitimate, it should help to settle future doubts quicker. I don’t particularly care if someone happens to think that I’m cheating… but I do care when they start talking others into the notion that I’m cheating and I start getting kicked and/or banned from servers.

Does anyone know where I can get ahold of an actual aimbot demo recording in ET? I’d like to be able to have something onhand that I can send to server admins who don’t even know what they should be looking for.

BTW I just found the login/pass for my old Enoch splashdamage account, so I’m now posting as Enoch rather than jcaleb.

(Sauron|EFG) #6

So you got banned from a Shrub server which wasn’t running PB, and where nobody was even close to your skill level, and you want to go back?

(Enoch) #7

Didn’t realize it wasn’t running PB… but yeah it’s one of the servers I ping well to and has plenty of people there regardless of the time of night.

(EB) #8

ahem, let’s see, another Rambo medic that likes to go to noob servers, hmmmmm…go play with bigger boys or just get banned from all the new players servers. Sooner or later you’ll have to play with the bigger boys.

p.s.
–What exactly do you hope to gain out of posting this stuff ?

(Wils) #9

Maybe I’m being naive, but it sounds like he wants people to review his demos and confirm he wasn’t cheating.

(Sauron|EFG) #10

Yes, you’re naive, but we still love you.

I wouldn’t have said “nobody was even close to your skill level” if I thought he was cheating. That doesn’t mean we can’t recommend him to search for some other server with more skilled players (like the SD server on friday nights  ).

Enoch: Search for the thread named “Truth about cheating in ET”, you should find some demo links in there (and it may be a good idea to send a link to that thread to whoever banned you).

(EB) #11

<<<Feels bad he left his sarcasm tags off on his prior post and in saying so is portraying more sarcasm.

(Enoch) #12

Thanks Sauron. That forum thread was exactly what I was looking for (especially the demos).

As I mentioned before, I’d like to be able to reference this thread in the future to settle doubts certain players I play with may have regarding my aim. Hopefully, this will prevent future kicks and bans from occuring. This goes for other servers… not just the one I was banned from. By the way, one of the reason I like to mess around on “noob” servers is that I can work on improving my aim. I can get a better feel for player movement speeds, work on fine tuning my tracking, improve my consistency and experiment a little. Plus, it’s fun.

you will get better aim by going and playing with the big boys faster than the noobs.

you went on a complete newbie server in order to pwn newbies, and got kicked by newbie admin. it was pretty much inevitable.

they probably arent very aware of even cfg tweaking, and cant see half of what you’re shooting at (no, i couldnt be bothered checking). then its some aged Dell PC with a dirty ballmouse that moves in jerks of half a screen at a time…

TBH i really doubt they want players going on there to rape, wether cheating or not.

(jinx) #15

Stay away from Shrub, it is the mod choice of pubs. If you don’t pub with competitive people, then you will find yourself in the company of total nubs; which means, if you can shoot them quickly and have a reaction time lower than 2 seconds, you will be kicked for an aimbot…stay away from shrub.

From what I saw in the demo, the majority of the kills you weren’t even taking fire. It isn’t hard to kill people that can’t identify the target shooting them before they die. No cheats, unless it is a bad aimbot

There are alot of kiddie responses here where they make you the fault here. You are right. The level of admin and play is pretty bad. It is literally this type of issue that will harm ET. Starts small but landslides. Either way, you are right and these know-nothings are just talking out their butts. If you don’t cheat and you know it then you know that the server admins are being abusive with their abilities and they aren’t worth it. The problem is that there’s no way to let others know. It would be best if there was a rating site that allows us users to tell how poorly these servers are being administered and how prone the admins are to cheating. Sort of like letting others know that just because Joey owns the chess set he can’t change the rules mid game and because he’s being beat he can’t always accuse you of cheating. Next thing you know the participants in these forums will be saying it is ok for Joey to say that you can play him chess but you can never ever again use your queen.

The admins are acting very childish and splashdamage needs to do a better job protecting the users by locking down and limiting mods that allow abusive console commands.

I don’t care if the admins do this as long as the players can rate on a public site the servers and their admins and list the problems they are having. That would be the best thing because once these admins learn they are being rated they’ll clean their act up or find themselves playing on the server alone.

This is an assumption. What makes a big boy? You don’t play on shrub so you are the only big boys? We all know what assuming does to both of us.

I’d say you are fine, that shub is fine and that big boys play on it. These types of responses are just bias.

(Depth_Charge) #18

Did he say anything about which mod the “big boys” were on?

(Nail) #19

who cares, it’s one out of approx 3800 servers

(Enoch) #20

I care, because when I go to find games later on at night, most servers are empty or have very few players (i.e., 4-6). Some servers give me a great ping, but they have very few players online. I get bored wasting time running around trying to find people on maps. I’d rather spend my time playing on a full, fast server where I have a great ping and lots of players to practice headshots on (whether they are “elite” or not makes no difference to me right now).

At the moment, there are only a small handful of these kinds of servers in my list. So when I start getting banned from these few servers for unjustified reasons, I’d prefer to have the issue resolved rather than just “moving on” to slower, empty late-night servers (if at all possible).
