Demos aren’t actually videos, they are a record of what happened in the game from your perspective.

Journals are even more useful, though more complex to set up, but they record everything that happened on your client, not just in the game. These can be created by using “+set journal 1” on your commandline. Note: Each time you restart the engine, the previous journal will be overwritten. Journaling writes out a couple of files into the game’s folder.

I will probably want to record what’s happening on my local machine too. Im not in front of ET right now, but I’ll check all this out tonight.

So, after I hit F12, I will want to type “+set journal 1” and then start playing?

No, to record a journal, you MUST put the +set journal 1 on the command line (right-click properties on the shortcut). After that, there is no need to record a demo, the engine will record everything regardless.

ok…I’ve recorded a couple of demos. Two different maps…both of them happened quickly, no neither one of them are too big. You guys can get at the demos by FTPing to

I looked at the properties on the shortcut to ET and I wasn’t able to find the command line you were speaking about. Can you tell me exactly where to start the journal entry?

Where it says Target: “C:\Bleh\Blah\Et.exe”

after the quotes (if there are any, otherwise straight after the .exe), add “+set journal 1” WITHOUT the quotes.

when I try to set the journal in the target, it will give me an error stating that there is no such directory as …/ET.exe"+set journal 1

Will I need to create a directory inside the ET folder?
