ATTN: SPLASH DAMAGE FORUM ADMINS (and everyone else :P )

(BlackDeath) #1

I want a little vote on an issue of mine that has been present lately.

Trolls. Now, we could help cut out dumb threads and lock the ones that are turning into fights if we had some MODERATORS around here

So, I propose that members who have been around for a while, become trustworthy moderators to these forums.

We need some policing around here!

It’s funny, but I just replied to someones message to me suggesting he start a thread similar to this one.

Let us know what you think please - no point us running the forums if you end up not wanting to use them

(Belisarius) #3

It’s a lot to ask from the SD team to constantly monitor and police the threads. Better let some members who has shown themselves to be mature and reasonable have more powers.

(BlackDeath) #4

Yeah, id rather see their efforts going to the mapping/modding section of their forums also  The more time they spend there, the more quality maps we’ll have in the future. :drink:

It works well on other forums i’ve seen. I’m a moderator on another forum, its not too bad if you know what you’re doing.

We have been getting a few…well…jerks lately posting “quality lacking material” Since frequent members on these forums are around often, we can delete/lock this crap before it spreads into flame wars.

I’m all for it.

if you have community members as moderators its just another community ET forum, where the devs happen to read often. Unless forum adminning is taking a signifcant amount of time for devs who could be doing more productive things, i dont really see the point - theyre adminned just fine as it is. no doubt a large chunk of the “yes” votes come from volunteers

(skinner) #6

hmm i dont like the idea. they did that over at the raven software forums but they picked a bunch of complete assholes (for the most part) and they just annoy everyone and become power crazy maniacs. i like it with just moderators who work for splash damage

(Maple) #7

how about the idea of members that have a good track record and maybe even experience?

(Vengeance) #8

I think its a very good idea and you guys have my support

(Slippery Jim) #9

As a reward for volunteering that person will get one Splash Damage developer of his choosing to come over to his house to clean it for him.

Windows are not included in this offer because SD developers think all windows are breakable like in the game.

(Kamel) #10

well, i think that’s an interesting idea, and i voted yes. the reason being is because if it works, then great. it will take a load off of the developers so that they can have more time developing and making a much-needed patch for enemy territory :P. the contrary to this is indeed, some people just can’t handle power. they are very cool and well civilized human beings until they get some power under their wings… then they totally change, telling people what to do and so on and so fourth. i would say that being a gaming forum, it is much more prone to this behavior because most gamers are very competative. i’ve owned and been on many forums in my life, and am on several still; so i’m speaking more from experiance than anything. you should probably have an age limit for the people who you do get to be moderators (18 preferably), because i’ve found that there are indeed very mature and talented 15 year olds out there, but they will show their true colors every now and then ;/.

in short, i say yes. it is risky though, so to keep from corruption, make a mod-only board for the moderators who aren’t developers to chat in. if things go down hill fast, take their rights as moderators away just as fast. it’s a nice idea, but i wouldn’t want it to be the death of the forums.

anyway, i’m sure i wouldn’t be a moderator. i’m not nearly a poster like others, lol. but i do think that it would be kindof cool to be one. every time a developer replies to a post i feel all funny inside; you guys are hero’s! haha.

I’m with DG. If it would take a large load off the SD folks, that would be good, otherwise I think things are fine the way they are.
General discussion will always tend to spam and ranting, and the other sections are pretty much on topic.

Signed up.

(Freedom[]Tickler) #13

I think it could work based on the quality of people who contribute to these forums.

I think SD have been fairly kind not deleting some of the worst troll posts , and on balance things remain relatively high brow in here compared to other ET forums …

(BlackDeath) #14

Votes are pretty high on the “yes” side. Maybe people with the most moderating/admining abilty could be chosen.

(BlackDeath) #15

Why we need moderators…

(Cosmos) #16

It would be a very good idea for more moderators on the board.

(ziege) #17

I voted No, but now I’ve changed my mind. Just to mess up the vote count I’d like my vote counted as a Yes please  We need moderation at the weekends when these trolls are off school.

(BlackDeath) #18

Wonderful

(StarHawk) #19

I vote no. If people don’t like certain threads they don’t have to read it nor respond. From my experience people that seek to become moderators do so out of ego and want power over others. They are the ones that should not be moderators.

Anyway, SD if you do decide to pick some moderators, at least look through their past post and see if they are free from fueling flames and have the maturity to handle the position.

(DG) #20

there already are moderators, that only suggests they should be more heavy handed (tbh trolling like that should be removed).
