I wanna join the beta as well. Not because I’m a filmmaker, but because I’m a gamer… :moo:
You can even leave an invitation in my PM box here in this forum.
First of all , Welcome in the forum.
Secondly , the beta will be a public beta , so everyone will get his hands on it.
And during the beta , the game would need bug fixing and that sort of stuff. i would suggest doing a film after the game is released , so you would encounter less bugs and less porlbems. Good Luck !
Agreed. Similarly, allowing ouroboro advanced access to the Beta will allow Splash Damage to more easily implement the preferences of ouroboro, which are of course vital.
I believe you have played too many EA games…
According to SD they spent an extra amount of time with balancing (ergo eliminating gameplay bugs) prior to release. According to Locki they want to deliver a nearly-perfect product, which is also why ETQW was delayed. For that they already hired some product testers working in their office.
The rest of the bugs should be easily dealt with in a public beta imo, however, SD and id will decide wether there is need for a closed one as well.
LOLOLOL :banghead:
NDA’s and threats of personal violence prohibit me from commenting further on your post.
I will say that todays publishing and marketing agreements often leave developers quite unhappy with the way their finished product is handled.
The bright side is that marketing is beginning to understand the importance (to revenue) of filmmaking, and that developers are including more and more options to the filmmaking community.
Is there something about the Quake Wars engine that you find desireable over other games? I haven’t made any movies, but it seems like alot of good engines are out there already to produce them. I can see wanting a better looking engine than say UT2004 to produce a movie, but don’t engines like Half Life 2’s offer all current visual bells and whistles?
I’m a decent coder/mapper/modeler, but haven’t really tried to do any movies, and just wanted to ask these things to further my understanding. I don’t knock you for wanting to get to play around with Quake Wars
What I see with Enemy Territory is potential, in a big way. You need look no further than the released trailer to see that
I think there should be a minimum post count for peeps to play the beta…say 221 posts
Bah, I would break that limit hands down.
Back on topic: it’s hard to make exceptions when handing things out.
If you’re helping over in a bar and they’re going to close, (given they warned everyone about 10 minutes before that) people will still come and ask “please give me a beer”. What you’d do? Give it to him? Well, problem is that all other guys in the bar will ask another one as well and you’ll be off handing out beers or getting frowned upon by angry customers.
Given that my comparison might be a little strange because people drunk beers before asking “a last one”, you could make it match with some common sense.
Making an exception for you guys would make others angry, as small movie-making groups would have about the same right to get a copy. Same applies for mappers, as they could give support on mapping tools as soon they get mapping. The list can go on and on.
And thus to conlude my point: in the end it’s best to give everyone the same chance of playing/using the beta at about the same time. A strict “no” might cause some friction whilst exceptions can smell like “friend politics”.
