Are there any relatively 'Vanilla' servers left?

I haven’t played ET in a few years, mainly because of all the mods that kept bogging down my computer, ridiculous sounds, settings etc.

I’m looking to play again, but the first few servers I tried to join (hosting stock maps) download a thousand things, changed the entire menu (as usual) or just redirect me to sites.

I’m looking for whatever the most ‘vanilla’ server there is, East Coast, as possible. ET Pro etc (or whatever is left) is all good by me. I just don’t want to be throwing med packs 400 yards across the damn map.

Edit: Not that I can get the damn client to stay in a game longer than 5 seconds anyway without a random error. Oh well, I knew it was a longshot.

yes some clans added their own menu pk3 so now to play on these servers is a pain and have to delete their pk3
not really democratic to force the guys to back to play on their server ( this mainly for new players )

Awesome, thanks macbeth! Do you have a suggestion as to which mod is generally closest to actual non-superhuman gameplay? Been a while for me, so ETPro is all I know, but there seem to be a lot of unique mods that I don’t necessarily have the patience of trial and error.

the other mods are just to have fun i think like we do in our clan
i played in the past in an etpro server named HKF but it is dead now too bad cuz it was a great one
but with splatterladder you will find good et pro servers and still very packed
i am getting a bit tired myself to play custom mods since years lol
the best mod is still NOQUARTER if you wanna have fun ,

Not sure you can say this one is the “best”, each mod has its advantages and disadvantages…

There are still a couple of ETpro servers that do not have a flurry of custom menus and a minimum of customization, both are in Europe. Hirntot and Hirnlos are their names… 193.192.59.186 and 193.192.58.187…

That’s why I had to remove their pack because in the right of the filters I had their links in ETPro?

IIRC they have custom menus too. I could be wrong too because it’s been a while since I have played ET… probably 2 years… not sure if they changed menus in between.

Well, this server is as vanilla as you will get. All sounds are recycled, basic etpub, all the latest fixes, auto leveling, no crazy textures or weapon skins…just raw ET. No sounds or sprees either. Oh but there are a couple clean poster girls on the lockers at a download of like 100kb (hope that’s not too much).

As far as the menu…eek…that would be a fail. Most clans have menus these days to compete with the BIG DOG clans whose menus swallow up players like a black-hole. But getting rid of menus these days is easy…so many menu removal utilities.

I was mosrtly responding to gameplay issues, but actually I didn’t remember there being any custom menus at all there, TBH. But now that I think about it, I’m not sure. If there are, they aren’t nearly so obtrusive as on other sites. I keep two directories for Wolfy on my computer; a sacred, virgin, etpro only copy for running local servers / LANs, and an online one I use only at hirntot and hirnlos basically. It keeps a great deal of pk3 spam off my system…

cg_allowdownload 0 blocks most of the unnecessary pk3’s, right?

you only need the maps/mod and you can join a server, and you won’t download the menu’s, skins, etc.

yea, but if you have the mod/maps you don’t need to download anything else. And if I remember right you can still join servers without downloading their skins, menus and all the other bullcrap.

It would be nice if there was a “block non-essential downloads” feature. I never did like how the game would grab any and all pk3s and ram them down your throat. Even a “force default menus” option would be nice. But, alas.

yea, this game is totally unfriendly for new players. Just look at the 2.60b masterserver list. All the 2.55+ servers will give you an error, if you try to join them, atleast it does for me.

99% of servers have “sv_pure=1”, so clients need same pk3 as server … so clients download …
look for ETmain-clean utility to remove them, or suppress yourself all pk3 with ~~~~~ or chr(10) ( I mean the little squares) in their name, and your menu is clean
