anyone played the BF2142 demo?

(Slime) #21

I wouldn’t even get BF2142 if it was free. It’s really awful by the looks of the demo and it will only get worse when the stat padders join in the full game with the ranks and unlocks. All the maps in BF2142 are also uninteresting.

I can’t believe EA hasn’t learned yet from their mistakes and are still using that rush and get the cash rule.

They Rushed BF2142 WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!! too much. They just made the game in about 6 months (not sure , but something like that) And the Beta was way too short too. They need to learn the basics of how to make good games. HL2 is an exellent game for example , and it took long to make.

(GlobalWar) #23

I think Paul and Kevin took at least 6 months to only think about the game

(kamikazee) #24

Not to speak about the amount of Belgian beverages involved.

(jimb0) #25

GlobalWar: according to interviews and such, the idea has been going around between them right after ET, so they probably took a little bit more time getting the concept done. i think i heard locki talking about ‘1 year’ of design prior to starting development, but i’m not too sure on that.

Played it too…i must say i was very surprised i actually could hit someone right in front of me. In BF2 my bullets always went the other way and killed my team mates. I only crashed 5 times during a 1.5 hour game so thats not bad for an EA game is it?

I will play it some more just to fool around with the vehicles and will prolly get bored after a day or 3.

My conclusion: EA has tried to steal from QW but they have failed .
The alpha of QW felt WAY better (in every aspect) then this demo version of BF2142 .

Yeah but do you really trust EA?

BF2 at demo was a great game bugs and poor accuracy aside. Then they changed it so that today it doesn’t even resemble anything it did originally at the demo stage gameplay wise, nerf after nerf, after nerf. Everything was intended until kiddies moaned then everything EA had previously apparently supported became an exploit and was nerfed out. Same with the vehicles. The Black Hawk owned as it should - there was even a nice little single shot sraw kill available which helped retain the balance. There was also the fact that it could be taken down in seconds by 2 vodniks working together. Kiddies didn’t work together and hadn’t got the skill with the sraw, and cried so EA took out the 1 shot kill (exploit - apparently AT weapons don’t destroy helos), nerfed the BH guns so u couldn’t hit anything anymore and then weakened the armour so much that the thing became a flying death trap which is why its now left alone on the helo pad on most maps or is a short flight and bail as soon as you see anything unfriendly weapon. No one uses it as it was intended anymore. just typical of EA’s changes throughout the whole game, and typical of their attitude of listening to small kiddies who cry about the fact that anything in the game takes some skill to master.

Personally, I have no reason to believe EA won’t do the same with 2142. Make a nice game at demo, then nerf it once everyone’s bought it.

I’m just hoping this is not the SD mentality. I get the impression it’s not from what I’ve always read on here so far.

I certainly know I won’t ever buy another EA game in living memory. They know exactly where they can stick 2142, Crysis and every other game they’re developing. I spend my money freely but wisely and any company that offends me, never sees another penny of it. Oh and EA in case your reading this, just for the record, I only ever bought EA titles and I bought every single game in the BF series, never again!

Here’s what it is:
Battlefield 2 with worse gameplay, new maps, new models and more crashes.

Also, during the demo I got booted out of the game every 10th minute because I lost connection to the EA Master Server. Why the hell would it need such a devoted connection to the master server? Long story short, a demo is something that’s supposed to give you a teaser of the game to come. If this is a teaser of the game to come, I don’t want to play the game. I’ve purchased a copy of Battlefield 2, so I have something I can play with some friends and I can say that I doubt I’ll buy Battlefield 2142 unless pressured into it by me peers.

Dice should never make a game again, ever.

here ill post you what a ea representative told an interviwer when aked about the advertising bill boards in bf2142 ‘the customers benefit in the long run’ because the money ea (CONSUMES) from lucrative advertising deals will be used for fuure ea sequals and booster packs for US TO BUY .no doubt having to pay 10£ for a new tank which causes your game to crash worse so even thought ea are getting more money game prices will not come down. obviously as ea have to pay for all those seqauls to games for the next 10 years like fifa, nhl and madden just repeating the same formula with a few touch ups graphically
I LOVE YOU EA ALL YOUR BUISSNESS MEN DESTRYOING GAMING praise the lord for sd to smash eas precious bf series

(kamikazee) #30

I think SD is more interested in bringing out a good game. If the game would give a death blow to the BF series, it would only be a mere side-effect.

Battlefield 2 with worse gameplay, new maps, new models and more crashes.

i think this sums it up pretty well. i’ve just tested it and i was surprised they managed to make gameplay worse than it was on bf2. it’s pretty crap. the titan mode is a joke.

even on crowded servers i felt like i was playing with 2 or 3 people and running around aimlessly. no wonder bf2 players think 24-32 players is too few for et:qw: they need 64 players just to feel like they’re playing against half a dozen people…

(kamikazee) #33

I want to see the ex-BF2 players’ faces when they see how overcrowded a 32+ server is.

(RivrStyx) #34

Played 2142 and it did suck. To many vehicles, balance blows, choppy, and was cartoonish. But to be fair they aren’t stealing from QWs… Its pretty much BF2 but futuristic and probably as buggy. Seems more like QWs is using some elements from them but thats besides the point…i’m sure QWs will be the better and more balanced game. Plus QWs is keeping the comp community in mind this time so i read. I just wish it was here but i hear its pushed to may 2007 now so i have to put up with this playing BF2 and 2142 trash until then… which sucks. I’ve had a QWs server on hold but going to use the credit for a shitty 2142 server because who knows how long its going to be for QWs and no other choices out there atm.
BTW i play on 16-32 player bf2 servers and always plenty of action since the maps scale to the number of players… but it is buggy which they seem to not be able to fix, inconsistent as far as aiming, balance is horrible, not to mention EA/Dice changing the gameplay every 5 minutes. Problem is its all thats out there right now along with its bastard spawn 2142 now.

Get out those whips and chains and get QWs out the door  … this EA/Dice trash is killing me

Didn’t play it, just read the readme and had a blast.

(ouroboro) #37

All sources point to “suck.” I probably won’t bother.

(Zhou Yu) #38

I was worried that there would be a fight between bf2142 and et:qw but after playing the bf2142 demo it’s a joke, roll on et:qw

(DG) #39

I particularily liked:

Players who have the Windows security update KB917422 installed may suffer from an application error when running the Battlefield 2142 demo. This error can be solved by uninstalling the KB917422 update.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917422

I’ll open up my firewall and remove security updates to play a game, very sensible advice from computing professionals.

(SCDS_reyalP) #40

FWIW, I didn’t have to open any additional ports to play, and I certainly don’t have 443 and 80 open to incomming connections. No trouble with the KB9174222 update either.

The infantry combat is still pretty much like BF2. The netcode and movement is also pretty much the same. Neither of those are good things IMO, but I guess some people like them.

I would say the Titan game mode is a clear improvement over the original conquest mode. It makes for a lot less garbage time (since you still have some chance of winning even if you didn’t do well in the hump-the-flags stage), and a more focused battle at the end. Being able to spawn onto transport vehicles means a lot less time spent walking, which is a Good Thing. OTOH, spawning in a vehicle right as it blows up isn’t particularly fun. It would be nice if the spawn map showed you the health of the vehicle at least.

The only real bug I noticed is that the user/password dialog doesn’t allow you to use certain characters in your password, even though they are valid for the ea website.
