Anyone have first-hand E3 demo experiences they could share?

Haven’t been able to find any first-hand account that was written for the ET faithful.

Specifically I’d like to know about how the weapons “feel”. How do they differ from their W:ET counterparts?

*What is the railgun like in this incarnation? Which Quake game does it seem to “feel like”?

*What are you’re experiences with the human sniper weapons? Have they been powered up? Nerfed? Left alone?

*How have the Engineer weapons been updated? I really want to know about the grenade launching function; is it similar to the Garand and K43 in W:ET?

*Anything else. I’m sure people will find some questions to ask if we find someone willing to answer them.

Also I was wondering if there were any female character models in the game, or is the GDF a strictly male-only force?

(kamikazee) #3

I guess the GDF are all male.

And for the strogg… I actually don’t want to know. :stuck_out_tongue:

(ParanoiD) #4

Probably “it”.

(Dazzamac) #5

Probably “it”.[/quote]
Well as they can be made from farmed humans that are still human torso’s (including groin area) technically there would be male and female strogg

(ayatollah) #6

Not only are the GDF all male but they seem to be all identical brothers! Boy I pity the mother of those 16 freaks!

(Zyklon) #7

They are clones :moo:

(Giskard1708) #8

lol! Way to go for diversity!

(Giskard1708) #9

Seriously though. This must be just because they haven’t got all the models working right yet. I mean, what kind of Global Defense Force is made up of only one of the worlds Minorities, (i.e. White Males) Being able to change sex, facial and skin-tone characteristics would add a lot of fun to the game. I have no idea of how their modelling system is set up obviously, so I don’t know how much work that would require. But come on. The way things are now the Strogg are more diverse!

Thats because they are still in alpha stage. I for one hope they spend more time on gameplay than what models you can choose to be. But I hope you can change your character when they are done.

diversity sucks.

Being able to change sex, facial and skin-tone characteristics would add a lot of fun to the game.

Although females are part of the US Army, most of them are in non-combat roles like communications. Some fly helicopters, and are in combat roles, but the majority arent because our society isn’t comfortable with sending mothers to battle. Although I have gunned down hookers with the best of them in GTA games, you just dont expect to find women in front line battles. If anything I think that would detract from the game by being less realistic.

You would notice facial differences rarely. I take it you mean like Oblivion or an MMO. I would never notice your nose is longer than mine in a battle… should SD waste development time on it? I say spend time on something important.

Having flavors of people might add some diversity, but again - is it really that important or would you rather have SD spend the time on another aspect of the game?

(Giskard1708) #13

Yeah it is important to me. Women and “Minorities” have shit representation in gaming. Usually they are typecast as villians, or pencil-waisted top-heavy bimbos, or used as target practice or all of these things. Given the choice between being able to edit my character to my gender/skin-tone/facial characteristics, and being stuck with the white-guy on the box, then of course I want the former. I’ve always had a problem with it, which is why I brought it up.

As for females in the military, I disagree with you that it would make it less realistic. Even though nowadays in the US military women aren’t specifically put on the front lines, the front lines are coming to them. They’re still get captured and beheaded and raped and having their arms and legs torn off just like everybody else over there. And although I can’t speak from first-hand experience, I bet you 9 out of 10 servicewomen would rather have the opportunity to be there in a fighting unit running patrols and doing the same thing their brothers are doing.

As for “Sending Mothers into battle”, thats the biggest crock of doublethink crap I’ve heard today. We send fathers into battle all the time! What’s the damn difference?

I don’t think that adding the previously mentioned feature would be a “waste of development time.”

Yep, everyones a racist, Get used to it. And yes, it would be a huge waste of developement time. No one will buy the game if there’s women running around in the game, thats not what they buy this type of game for. They don’t buy it so that all races and genders will be represented equally so we don’t offend anyone. This is a game which involves killing. If it really bothers you that much, go play perfect dark zero.

(Giskard1708) #15

Humph. All this being said, I guess the reason other models haven’t been included yet is because they are only in alpha stage. I hope that changes.

(Joe999) #16

i’m asking out of curiosity: does anyone know whether ET:QW is in alpha or beta? i recall that someone (tim willits? locki?) said at E3 that the game has reached early beta, but then again some recent interviews say it’s still alpha.

of course it doesn’t matter because in neither version we get our hands on the game, still it would be interesting as it gives the whole thing a progressing touch

(Giskard1708) #17

I think I just read in the gamearena interview that it was in early alpha as of E3.

(crumblycake) #18

Wasn’t this topic posted before?

SD could just make a super-race aka “The Polictially Correct Race”. In the next 100-160 years all human genes will be the same. We have become asexual and our skin tone is a mix of black, brown, white, tan, and red. All people have the urge to be a mother and a soldier. :o

(Lanz) #20

Dude, ask yourself how would you react if all the models where male and black and you thought, hmm, why can’t I change skin tone?

Anyway, I kind of find it funny when something called “Global” happen to be male white Americans.
