prolly it is true what you can read in the news from time to time and some people are really troubled regarding computer games, eg the one kid who lost his mind and thought he’d be a mortal kombat character in real life …
and i wonder why it’s always black/white and male/female? what about chinese people? i hardly hear people say they want yellow skin. or how about the little people? anyone seen those yet in a computer game?
Still, I think it’s very easy to say I don’t care when the shoe fits you perfectly.
edit: Just think if every game you ever played had male black people only, would it be so strange to just wonder why aren’t there any white people in this game? Especially when the game has one side with “Global” in its name?
of course, but that doesn’t mean people don’t play axis because they are no nazis. or they don’t play allied field ops because they aren’t black.
that’s just my experience: i’ve worked in a youth organization and dealt with a lot of people of different races and religions, and have been called a racist very often although i dealt with everyone equal. at some point i got the opinion that the real racists are themselves because they want to take advantage of being different and use that by calling you names n such although - as i said before - everyone was dealt with equally, so why should i favor them? only because they are different?
but that’s not the point. point is: why would someone care about race/gender. it’s absolutely not important, especially not in a game. the white man stuff is marketing, it’s what is preferred. take chinese/japanese movies as an example. ever seen an asian with such big eyes? or do they have yellow color? haven’t seen such in real life yet.
and as i said: why would it have to be “black”? i always read black. what about the native americans? what about chinese? what about russians? what about germans? what about mexicans? why is there no gdf with a sombrero?
Okey, kidding aside, black was just an example and yeah somewhere you have to draw the line of course. Also, just like you I really don’t care, I just tried to see it from a different perspective and it’s all white.
The reason you can’t understand why this issue is so important to me is because you never have to deal with it! If every aspect of your society was tailored to someone elses ideal, you’d be pretty damn mad too. And then when people basically tell you to “get back in line”, how are you supposed to react?
As for the proposed feature being worthless, just because YOU might not see any value in it doesn’t mean it isn’t worthwhile. Likewise, just because you don’t ever experience racism doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. In fact there is nothing guaranteed to get my blood boiling than another person telling me it doesn’t exist. So if you are surprised that I start being a little incendiary, well there’s your reason.

Agreed, they have to draw the line somewhere i guess. The question is where? I’d like to see SD to at least try like they did with the allied fieldops. I mean, how hard can it be to tack tits on a model and record a couple of new voiceovers? =)
I would like to request that you tell me instead what specifically is offensive to you about my posts and allow me to edit them myself, instead of sticking a ball-gag in my mouth. I put a lot of thought and time and heart into my posts, and it is unfair for you to just wipe them away like that.
ah, what the heck, here’s a hint, it’s just a personal opinion: the way you choose your words you achieve what you want: you attract attention, but not the way you want it. suggestion: try to show some respect, choose polite words and bring up some constructive arguments and people will start to listen. if you can’t find something offensive in your posts, then you have a serious problem with dealing with people. the worst got deleted, but as an example in your other thread you write:

just a suggestion: write what you want, don’t post it, keep it in notepad or whatever, reread it after an hour and after that post it. maybe you consider to change your words that way

we’re talking abot texture manipulation and sprite collision detection, not interacting as physical entities, put full face helmets and gloves on the GDF and be done with all this “representation”
Different male skins can be done on the same mesh, meaning that the same collision would be in focus. I dont think female models are needed myself, but i do think that a few different skin options would very much indeed rock. White>Black>Chinese for humans, and i dunno, slightly different head skins for Strogg is really needed. For example, some of the new strogg skins dont look as good as the older ones. The old E3 video, and the pics with the strogg stabbing the guy in the neck, that skin isn’t the same in the later version, which sucks for me.
But theres the problem. When you give one a new topy you haveto give the other something as well. So while i really want white/black/chinese skins for humans, what would the strogg get to balance it out?
At the very LEAST however, the humans need DIFFERENT looking faces for EACH class. Fair enough, dont give players the ability to pick race. But come on, why should EVERY class have the SAME american-ised dumb ass face? That seems wrong… Give us different heads, even if we cant select the.
i wonder what the designer thinks when he reads that, especially if it comes from respectless people who haven’t played the game yet, nor paid for it, nor provided any other useful contribution for it.
As wacko Jacko said, “it dont matter if we black or white” or for that matter yellow! Tbh does anyone seriously care about shape or colour of their soldier.
I focus my attention on how the game plays rather than silleh things probably cuz im much more mature and am like a sage
