Exactly you are failing to realize all the differances that there are while playing 3rd as opposed to 1st, not only that but also how it would effect all the abilities and overall design of the game and levels… You are still stuck in the “But it looks so cool” phase. NO WAY AT ALL it would work in any pub match with other people using FPS, too different to be even or fair for either side. Please just READ THE OTHER THREAD that practically mirrors this one that is from when the game first came out and those videos were put up. No one feels like going through this debate all over again, its already been done, go check it out.

There really aren’t that many, at least no near enough to completely **** the game up to the point where it’s no longer playable, which is what I guess you think would happen.

Still fail to see how a different perspective would drastically change the way abilities work. Is giving health boosts in third-person going to break the game or something? You’re going to have to explain that one to me. You’re also going to have to explain how that’s going to effect the game design and levels cause I’m not seeing that either.

Brink needs a year in Review because the first 6 months need be spent breaking down people’s expectations to make Brink like every other game when its trying to stand apart or do it differently. Its like if there was only Rock music on the Radio and somebody like Aerosmith decided to release a Folk album instead, and it was judged as a Rock album in the first 6 months but had no electric guitars, no guitars at all, but a mandolin and violin, until all the people who want it to be a Rock Album learn its not trying to be a Rock album. Where are the Guitar Solos? Where is the Blues riff? How come nothing Rhymes? Why is there a harmonica instead of feedback? Another pointless analogy with a very real point.

I’d love it if they made it an option to run around in 3rd person rather than 1st. Especially when it came to using the smart system. Although having the game switch to 1st for aiming makes a lot of sense (instead of the gears over the shoulder) As long as the bullets still go where the reticle is, i don’t see why people would have a problem with this. Not to mention that if it were OPTIONAL and was off by default then they really shouldn’t complain. that’s like going into mcdonald’s and yelling about how you don’t like ketchup and there fore they shouldn’t give ANYONE ketchup.

This would be a fun option for those who wanted it as long as it was A) just an option and B) didn’t change the gamplay too much.

LOL wow your lost over there… If anything its like going to McDonalds and asking for a roast beef sandwhich when you could just go to Arbys, but instead of going to Arbys you start demanding that they start making roast beef sandwhichs cause you like eating at McDonalds and want to get your roast beef sanwhiches there… Now there are more then enough reasons as to why McDonalds doesnt make roast beef sandwhiches, 1 is because they specialize in the opposite end of that, Burgers, 2 it would require even more (new) equipment to make it and make it right, 3 now they are expanding the competition and the competition already does roast beef sandwhiches much much better…

And honestly lol its already a STRETCH to have it in the game AT ALL, but to sit there and say you dont see any prob with the ability to go in and out of 3rd or to play with others using only 1st just shows EXACTYLY HOW LITTLE THOUGHT YOU HAVE PUT INTO IT!

I can see your point, especially from consoles players I suppose, but 3rd person view is unfair against first person : you see more or in places you shouldn’t be able to (down level on a balcony for example).

If anything, should be server configured so all players get the same view.

I tihnk the game itself would be ok in 3rd person view, but what I like in FPS is FP. Because it is more immersive, and I use reflexes better this way.

Could be nice to allow for some challenges like parkour too. But otherwise, I play this game for the FPS feeling and the mechanics, not really to admire my char like in a mmo or something.

First of all… i’d never ask for a roast beef sandwhich at mcdonalds simply because i believe most of the meat there is hardly qualified as meat lol. and second that’s just way to convoluted of a response to what i said. some people like third person, some people don’t. Just because some people don’t like something doesn’t mean they get to tell the others they can’t have it. Especially when it doesn’t do much to change the game play as well as it being optional. The mechanic is already in game, so unlocking it and making optional means it’s only there for those who want it… like ketchup. Not every body uses a sniper rifle. Some people don’t like it. Doesn’t mean they should take it out and not let people use it. It just means they try to balance it better and leave it for those who want it.

Very well said sir. Instead of crying “that’s stupid because it is” like some people have, you actually list a good reason as well as given a decent way to go about it. What if it was an ability unlock? They already have one that allows you to enter third person at a console, what if it was a tier 5 ability that let you do it when in SMART mode?

sure. i dont mind options :slight_smile: doesnt harm me. 3rd person (IMO) is better for platforms like tombraider. not so much shooting games. your player gets in the way too much

I have stated more then once already that there was already a thread on this a while back, I was in the thread along with many others, its already been debated to death and there is a reason there has not even been a whisper about 3rd person view since. SO AGAIN I WILL RECOMEND YOU SEARCH FOR THE OTHER THREAD ON THIS TOPIC AND READ THAT BEFORE STARTING ANOTHER ONE THAT GOES THE SAME EXACT WAY!

It’s funny how i didn’t start this thread or even comment on it until the third page and yet i’m still being qouted like i did. I saw the thread on the second page while going through the list, so i read it. If you don’t like a thread, don’t keep posting in it as well as provoking people to respond to you. It’s counter productive to your cause. Besides, if people keep starting threads on the subject it doesn’t matter how bad a thread got at one point, because it shows a continued interest in the topic. And as long as it’s not a huge balance breaking issue that is optional for all players, then i don’t see the problem.

As a side note, typing in all caps doesn’t make it look any smarter.

Well most would agree its a very good idea to read the whole thread before making comments on the thread, it kinda just makes sense to know whats already been said…

And I wrote it in all caps so it would be hard to miss, tired or repeating myself on these forums cause people are lazy and dont read whole threads before commenting or only read “parts” of posts and ignore the rest.

Thats the most recent Thread on it, as Nail stated at the end of it (he is a long time member here), its already been debated before release and amongst the SD team itself, just wouldnt work. LOL I actually find it ammusing that its even something that should have to be spelled out in detail, to me its very OBVIOUS for many reasons.

I am not pooping all over it, I suggest other game modes or challenges, even way to record matches in 3rd. But on the other side of that is why focus time and effort to that when it can go towards the core of the game. LOL oh and i recieved postive rep on posts from that thread by decent known members who didnt even feel the need to chime in for various reasons.

Oh and Anchorman = Best comedy movie of all time!!!

Moving on.

The whole “3rd Person as a separate game-mode” suggestion was pretty good. As stated earlier in this thread, MW2 did that and that was my favorite game-mode. Didn’t break the game or anything or distract from the other game-modes. I mean how much programming would it really take to implement that? not much I don’t think. It’s not like building something from scratch. You can already make the game 3rd person on the PC with some console commands from what I understand. And you can also mod the console version to it if those videos are to be believed. I’ve actually thought about doing that, but i don’t know how to and I’m pretty sure it’s illegal.

Don’t worry man. I like the idea of 3rd person option. Nerds tend to get this way when they are defending something. Like broken games such as this. They don’t want ANYTHING to change, NOTHING to get better, they shoot down others ideas because they think that THEIR (not the majority’s) ideas are better, and frankly they’re just…douches. So with that, This forum has no purpose. I’ll list the reasons below.

  1. If you post anything (especially an idea), its already been brought up probably. The douche bags and trolls will come running to say “Use search cuz its already been said!”

  2. SDs don’t actually pay attention to these. Even if they did and suggested a DLC including your idea…they couldn’t execute it correctly. Hell, they can’t even get their own DLCs out at a reasonable time.

  3. There has yet to be a good gaming company that would allow you to submit your own ideas for a Ad-on.

  4. What else is there to bring up if you can’t mention your ideas because of trolls? You can’t mention anything about the DLC cuz theres already 100+ post about it, so what is there to say here?

P.S I think its necessary to point out the REAL trolls.
For one, trolls like to shut down your ideas, and criticize you aggressively. Those are people like: Oschino1907, wolfnemesis75, and pinksocking just to name a few.

However, their idea of a troll is someone who think the game could improve, isn’t denying the fact that the game was horrible at first, or has awesome ideas for BRINK.
