Anybody else think Brink should have been in 3rd Person?

(Gorilla Gunk) #1

Emphasis on “OPTION.”

I’ve been watching some videos of the game played in third person and it looks, I don’t know, better than first person. You can actually see your character climb up walls and over stuff and more importantly, you can see your characters outfit. I love games that have character customization and I think it should be standard, but I feel that it’s mostly wasted on FPS games since the only time you can see your character is either when you’re customizing him or when you die.

Here are some of the videos I was talking about:

Should have been an option.

Please dont bring this up AGAIN… Should have searched first, this has already been discussed and shot down. It basically ruins the whole purpose of the game and would def make it play worse, it only “looks cool” and thats about all, otherwise it ruins/contradicts many gameplay aspects. 3rd person spectating YES, 3rd person gameplay NO…

Other people see you is more the point. Hence the customization. Other 3rd person games, its about a predetermined story character, like Marcus Fenix. You are stepping into his shoes in more of a Role. Or Shepherd in Mass Effect. In Brink the character is YOU. Makes a huge difference if you think that way. You want people to see YOU not you see YOU. Like in real life. You don’t walk around with a mirror held up on your backside, right? Think Oblivion, not Resident Evil.

(wolfnemesis75) #5

You see YOU in the customization menu.* Like looking into a full length mirror. Everyone else sees YOUR style.

*Unless you are willing to use an ability point on 3rd Person Perspective.
You also have to be willing and able to capture command posts though…
which, they are mine so I will stop you, and then you may have to go
back to the menu to see what you look like, brother.

One mode it would be ok for would the Parkour Challenge especially if they make future ones, I could see that being something possible but wouldnt be allowed to qualify for top times on leaderboards.

And exactly Wolf, you make yourself look however so thats what others see when facing you, you either stick out or blend it, strike fear or have a big “kick me” sign on your back.

Just ONE of the contradictions…

I use 3rd person perspective on EVERYONE, cause its very useful and I also get to see my guy!

I can see that none of you have actually watched the videos he’s posted that prove all of you wrong, go watch the video it does not break or mess anything us!

Ha ha. Special Ability. I think of it more as “Astral Projection”.

Yup. I am a geek. FU if you don’t like it. FU stands for “Forget You” by Cee Lo Green

God this is enough to make me want to get this on PC

(wolfnemesis75) #11

Ha ha ha. It looks like an Action Adventure game. Enslaved or something.
I think they wanted to make money on this game instead…

I don’t get your logic here? So you would not play it cause if it was 3rd person, why?

I am guessing you don’t play gears, well even if you don’t million of others do.

(Gorilla Gunk) #13

Yeah that really makes no sense. By your logic games like Saints Row 2 and Demon’s Soul and any other previously third person game with a strong basis on character customization should have been in first person and games like Bulletstorm or any other FPS where the main character, you, talks and has personality and a backstory and whatehaveyou should be in third person.

And your “You want people to see YOU, not YOU” thing also makes no sense because you really have no idea if the enemy or your teammates are seeing your character or a placeholder. I’ve been in countless games with and against human players where most of them throughout the entire game either looked like the custscene characters or the cannon fodder computer-controlled types you see in the challenge modes. And even if that was fixed your argument still doesn’t make too much sense. Are you really customizing your character to make others look at you and go “Oh geez he looks cool?” Character customization is there for the player, not for other people.

I’m really not saying the entire game should have been in 3rd-person. I’m saying I really would have appreciated the option because in my opinion, the game looks like it plays a lot better in 3rd person.

EDIT: Altered the title so it’s not as misleading.

Its sad really they completely miss the point, I think people here on edge from battling trolls and completely overlooked that you were talking from a fans perceptive and that you brought proof with you that SD flat out lied about the 3rd person not working.

(thesuzukimethod) #15

how does ADS work in 3rd person? (not a snarky comment, just seems like the mechanism would fall down). i love me some demon’s souls and MGS4 and uncharted, but one of the reasons I dont like the new UC3 MP beta, is 3rd person MP seems odd to me. if adding it as an option is transparent and doesn’t require mods to FP play, i have no problem with it but will never choose it. if it took away from the FP game, I’d be less inclined to support it.

how about 2nd person shooters?

(SnipingMeerkat) #16

I would love an option. Sorry for the reference but I loved the 3rd person team tactical in Modern Warfare 2.

" I’m saying I really would have appreciated the option because in my opinion, the game looks like it plays a lot better in 3rd person."

Yet you have never played it that way??? No to mention your forgetting the contradictions, let me throw just a few at you, 3rd Person Per. Ability, ADS, Anything with a scope, “no zoom” option for sights, and anything involving peripheral vision would then be NULL and VOID, not to mention some things I have left out and the way it would have varied effects on MANY other abilites and such.

Open your eyes and stop riding the “but it looks so cool” train, be more objective with yourself and your own ideas before comming here and trying to argue for them when its obvious you put very little thought into this outside of watching a few vids and being amazed by them. Thats called being a “Prisoner Of The Moment” (my inner Skip Bayless there, lol!) and please search this site and read the thread about it that came out the first few weeks of release, its already been debted on these forums and sorry for you SHOT DOWN outside of some obscure side game mode.

LOL Yes Wolf WE are all haters and trolls of this game!!! Best joke I have heard in ages!

I do play Gears but it’s Over The shoulder 3rd person view. You only see their legs when you roadie run. Originally Gears was envisioned as a FPS instead. I bet the chainsaw had something to do with going 3rd person, Resident Evil 4, and the Story Focus. Plus Epic had Unreal Tournament for FPS…But again, not a game with custimization at all. Makes a difference. Brink is not an RPG either (although it has some elements in terms of abilities). Think Mirror’s Edge with guns rather than Resident Evil. Also in terms of 3rd Person View, Gears is the exception rather than the rule. I want other people to see my dude in Brink… I see my dude plenty enough when I am customizing him.

Also Remember this: Brink has its OWN style. And so do YOU!

hey I know you were joking but you are actually on to something here, there is a style of third person on some games like fallout where if you zoom in on 3rd person mode you get this cool view of the back of your characters head and shoulder and you can just see enough of him holding his gun and it’s pretty much like the half way point, I wish I could show you guys and example but that would really work!

Edit: Yea basically like gears.

he in they way I mentioned in my previous post player could still look down there scope or they would go into fp when looking down there scope.
