Anybody else think Brink should have been in 3rd Person?

(Gorilla Gunk) #21

Oh man, I loved that too. Too bad everybody else I knew hated it.

It may not sound like it but I’m a huge FPS guy. Out of the 17 games I own 11 of them are FPS’s. And I’m not that huge a fan of 3rd person games. Never touched a Gears of War game in my life. And I loved that brink was an FPS. But after playing it and seeing those 3rd person videos, I’m really wishing I didn’t have to play it in 1st person.
Emphasis on “OPTION.”

I’ve been watching some videos of the game played in third person and it looks, I don’t know, better than first person. You can actually see your character climb up walls and over stuff and more importantly, you can see your characters outfit. I love games that have character customization and I think it should be standard, but I feel that it’s mostly wasted on FPS games since the only time you can see your character is either when you’re customizing him or when you die.

Here are some of the videos I was talking about:

You should NEVER have an option to go 3rd person or 1st person in a multiplayer game. But I think it would of been better 3rd person.

wow!!!

LOL not even gettin into a debate with you about this until you read the older thread about it, not repeating myself and many others just to prove my point when its already out there. But I will say this, Fall Out is not an online multiplayer and i dont know about you but most everyone I know who plays that only does third person WHEN NOT FIGHTING. And please why not go to the Socom4 site and try telling them to add a first person mode and see how far that gets you… And honestly FP would work better on that then 3rdP on this game. You basically want the abiltity to change the game and make it something it isnt DESIGNED to be, “looks cool” but thats about the end of it.

(wolfnemesis75) #25

Troll alert.

(bastuden) #26

OK and why wouldn’t we want the game to “look cool” ,your logic fails because this game is all about “looking cool”
otherwise we would not have the customization options, like I said there is a 3rd person view out there that is a go between first and 3rd

(wolfnemesis75) #27

Brink 7 comes out in 2048. “Hey, this game would R0XOR as 3rd Person View!”

Still no TDM and no 3rd Person View, though. Ha ha ha ha!
" I’m saying I really would have appreciated the option because in my opinion, the game looks like it plays a lot better in 3rd person."

Yet you have never played it that way??? No to mention your forgetting the contradictions, let me throw just a few at you, 3rd Person Per. Ability, ADS, Anything with a scope, “no zoom” option for sights, and anything involving peripheral vision would then be NULL and VOID, not to mention some things I have left out and the way it would have varied effects on MANY other abilites and such.

Open your eyes and stop riding the “but it looks so cool” train, be more objective with yourself and your own ideas before comming here and trying to argue for them when its obvious you put very little thought into this outside of watching a few vids and being amazed by them. Thats called being a “Prisoner Of The Moment” (my inner Skip Bayless there, lol!) and please search this site and read the thread about it that came out the first few weeks of release, its already been debted on these forums and sorry for you SHOT DOWN outside of some obscure side game mode.

LOL Yes Wolf WE are all haters and trolls of this game!!! Best joke I have heard in ages!
Meh, there are ways around it. The way a lot of third person games zoom in a bit when you are suppose to be iron-sighting works enough for me and in most games 3rd person games when you use a sniper scope it just goes into 1st person scope mode. And I don’t really see how it would effect the abilities. You telling me that using an EMP or setting up a turret or throwing a molotov in third person would be that drastically different from doing the same things in third person? The peripheral vision thing isn’t that big a deal to me anyway. And I’ve put a lot more thought into this then just watching a few videos. I’ve been mulling this over for awhile now. The idea that the game would be better for me came to me long before I saw the videos. i started thinking that the first week it came out. It’s not that it just “looks cool” to me. For me it just seems like it plays better in 3rd person. It’s kind of like the polar opposite of Bethesdas games and at least they give you the option. And have you played it in third person?

I also would like you to notice that in the above paragraph I kept using the words 'for me." Not 'for you" or “for everybody.” You want the game to stay in first-person. That’s fine, but would it really bother you that much knowing some are playing it in third-person? Doubtful. Like I keep saying, I would like it as an option for those out there who want it.

(bastuden) #29

why don’t you guys like me, my feeling are hurt seriously I thought you guys would slightly support the idea to some effect.

(thesuzukimethod) #30
hey I know you were joking but you are actually on to something here, there is a style of third person on some games like fallout where if you zoom in on 3rd person mode you get this cool view of the back of your characters head and shoulder and you can just see enough of him holding his gun and it’s pretty much like the half way point, I wish I could show you guys and example but that would really work!

Edit: Yea basically like gears.
yeah - making a narrative/writing/author joke. if anything, the narrative development of VG is maybe closer to 2nd person (narrator (chen/mokoena) speaks to you, you pick your path within the game, etc) rather than 3rd person (where narrator is separate from the story).

lol…sorry. not the point of the thread.

(Nicko1021) #31

How was that trollling? 3rd person would of worked better with the parkour. But it’s easier to shoot first person, so you can walk up to a corner, go into 3rd person, see everything. Go back to 1st and gain a huge advantage.

(wolfnemesis75) #32

What? You’re fine. Your idea just goes against the first or second item on the Brink design punch-list : FPS with SMART

The key part is: First Person Shooter:wink:

(Nicko1021) #33

Smart would of worked much better and would of been more smooth if it was in 3rd person. And you don’t need your aim anyway in brink since you just have to point your gun in the enemies general direction, and you’re good.

(Oschino1907) #34

Nothing against you its just already been debated and I am sure SD themselves thought about it at some point and left it out for very good reasons. I dont have friends or enemies when it comes to debates regarding the game, I will side with people I hate if they pose a good point and crap all over a friend if they say something I highly disagree with.

Seriously just search for the old thread and skim through it, MANY MANY more points brought up as to why NO then why YES, I just dont feel like goin into details about it all over again. Like I said, in the end it came down do if they (SD) have the time and money to make a side game mode as it wouldnt fit AT ALL with the core game modes and design of the game, but having saiid that would you rather see more for the CURRENT game as it stands now or time and money be put towards a 3rd person game mode thats seperate.

(Nicko1021) #35

This just proves you are a child. I was pretty sure you were a kid when you supposedly trolled a troll and expected to be praised and granted moderator status.

I don’t see how adding the option would do any harm, unless it was taking devs away from more important projects (i.e. fixing matchmaking).

I would never use it, as I’m not a terribly big fan of 3PS’s (Uncharted aside).

(Gorilla Gunk) #38

I don’t see how it would be that big of a deal either. Especially since looking at those videos it seems like they wouldn’t have to do that much work.

(wolfnemesis75) #39

Ok, that’s funny. ha ha ha ha!
