Am I Evil? Need To Know...

(ouroboro) #1

I intend to download ETQW illegally (if possible) upon release, for the purposes of benchmarking.

In my experience, official demos are rarely adequate testing grounds for performance. Also, official system recommendations are almost always greatly understated. If and when I determine that ETQW will perform at a playable level on my machine, I shall buy it with pleasure. Otherwise, I shall pass. This will of course mean that I will have an illegal copy of the game, where theoretically I might glean some small amount of pleasure by running around on a listen server by myself, looking at the maps.

How do others feel about this? Am I a horrible human being with no redeeming qualities, or is my soul perhaps salvageable from the wreckage of my possible future crime?

if you feel your machine is really borderline then i can understand where you’re coming from i guess. i know a lot of people were upset when they found out their computer that played the bf2 demo smoothly took a 20fps nosedive in the full version. i didn’t experience this to such an extreme degree, but i’d be pretty upset if that happened to me.

so yeah considering consumers have been misled in the past i wouldn’t really classify you as a bad person as long as your intentions are proper. you’ve probably just been burned in the past and you’re just trying to protect yourself. in the eyes of the law on the other hand… =P

I have a feeling everyone does the same thing

but you won’t have online play which for most people is the only reason to buy

(Joe999) #4

if you can’t afford to buy a pc that meets current requirements and neither the requirements of the past 2 years, how about going out and finding a job instead of playing pirated computer games?

(ouroboro) #5

A great example, thanks.

Bingo.

Exactly right. And if I determine that I’ll be able to run it at an acceptable level, I’ll be only too thrilled to lay down the cash.

your imagination is impressive when it comes to faking quotes, however you disappoint me: i miss the point where you use “you’re an ass”, “you’re an idiot” and “fuck you” just like today in irc when you ran out of arguments

(taken) #7

And you just had to post that in the official dev forums?

OT: I think the demo will work as a good as the full game for benchmarking m8, so your evil:< ET: QW isent BF2 and SplashDamge/ID isent DICE.

(ayatollah) #8

Also there will prob be no chance of benchmarking, if you have noone on a local server…No online play means no opponents and therefore a higher FPS. So your arguement for downloading illegally is essentially flawed.

My advice, buy the game legally then if it really can’t run, even with all the cvar tweaks that will be available, sell on eBay.

Back to trolling again Ouro?

So you think that benchmarking with the demo is insufficient, but benchmarking on an empty listen server is? (Or do you expect to find a way to circumvent the CD-Key check?)

(Joe999) #10

the thing i ask myself is if the mere fact alone that he’s been playing ET now for how many years for free ain’t justification enough to buy Quake Wars blindfold in order to support Splash Damage no matter if it runs on the sys or not?

(senator) #11

Owning a pirated copy is illegal and wrong, there is just no way around this simple and basic truth. How should you be able to ‘benchmark’ a game better with a pirated copy than with an official demo? As some others already said, do you really expect an empty server to give you a better impression of how smooth the game will run on your computer than a full demo server?
Or was your next intended step to play on some cracked server, to further ‘benchmark’ ETQW?

Just buy the game, and if it’s unplayable besides your computer meeting the required system spect, return the game to where you bought it or sell it on eBay.

My pc wot be able to play QW well and i dont got the money to upgrade but im still gonna buy it. I’ll get to enjoy the nice pic’s on the box for a while at least!

(Darkfrost) #14

If i was you, i would just try out the demo, it should be pretty close to the actual game play…

Also, you coulc probbaly post your cpu specs up here, and someone might be able to tell you roughly how well it would run

(Domipheus) #15

I played the bf2 demo but not retail so cannot comment on that, however in my experience most id-engine based demos (w:et, rtcw, q4) if anything would get a jump in fps by a few upon release.

(ParanoiD) #16

Just a question, but your starting the whole topic without even listing your machine specs. Maybe you call a Athlon 64 3000+ skt 754, 512MB and a GeForce 6600GT bad at the moment. But that rig would only take an upgrade to 1GB to run it fine i guess. If you are on a P4 2GHz, 512MB and Radeon 9600, then it is different.

Another option, have you tried Quake4 yet? Same engine and if that runs good, Quake wars probably will do 2.

(sddo) #17

i completely forgot that there’s no single player. hah. well there’s always the option of adding bots to a local server i suppose? but yeah i also think the demo should be a fine benchmark for the most part, but again i can see why you’d rather not take that chance.

maybe he’s different on irc and that’s why you guys are attacking him.

(Dazzamac) #18

My computer willl run the game, I know it will because I started saving when QW was announced and built a new machine less than a year ago. I did that when I was still a bum student on low income so any fool can do it. Also even if I didn’t do that and still hhad my old pc that may or may not have run it (not most likely) I’d still buy the game in support and recognition of the creators of ET. Buy the game because your reason for downloading it is ceck, even if your pc won’t run it, it’s a due payment for ET.

You are so lost dude you need directions.

#1 I would suggest not posting posts about downloading full game, for any reason, especially in a SD forum.

#2 What were you thinking? Posting a thread where you seek approval from SD or SD-forum members, for you to download their game for free, even just for “testing performace”?

#3 Do you think you would like reading about illegal downloads if you were in their the devs place?

#4 I suggest you try the demo whenever it comes, and then after test the demo, you debate about the performance will be the same in the full released game, if you will get about the same FPS or not. You can even debate now, about Q4 demo performance and Q4 full game performance which in my understanding would be alot better comparison that BF2 demo vs BF2 full game performace.

#5 You sux.

(Flesh) #20

Just for info will there be any official bots to the game?
