Afaik SD said that they focus on maps and balancing rather than bots, but id software [accidentally?] said this during the Qcon Q&A:

[Robert] “Well as an example the programmer we just hired to do bots for Enemy Territory came directly out of the MOD community.”
[Kevin] “Don’t tell anybody that.” [laughs]

(The guy they hired is the guy behind Fritzbot.)

Of course that doesn’t mean it’s certain there will be bots. :moo:

This thread wasn’t serious, BTW. We were having a convo in IRC, and someone “dared” me to post what I said there, here. I say a lot of shit online. You know, “internets,” and all that. Some things I mean, some I don’t. Sometimes I take on an opposing view and try to argue it – just for fun. I thought “what’s the worst that could happen, I get banned from a forum that’s been down so long I’d forgotten about it?” So I did. I also figured it might get some interesting responses, and it did.

Still, every bullshit story has a kernel of truth, and the truth is I have felt burned by games in the past. Do I download games? Yes. Do I buy games that I play regularly? Well, yes and no. What I mean is, the game I’ve played more than any other in the past 3+ years is ET, and it was free. But I do own many, many games, I just don’t like them and thus don’t play them. :slight_smile:

Do I plan on buying ETQW? You bet your ass. I’ll be among the first to buy it. I’ll probably buy it online, because hot items typically go out of stock fast at the brick and mortar shops, and I get annoyed dealing with them. All the better, since I’ll be able to take a screenshot of my receipt and post it here as proof (just kidding, I don’t want to bump this thread any more than this). :stuck_out_tongue:

Providing the gameplay is right, and providing I show the slightest spark of ability at the game, I intend to dive right into the competitive ETQW scene and stick with it until it’s dead or RTCW2 comes along and is better. So, yes, I’ll be buying the game.

I have to confess, the beer was flowing that night, and I did feel bad the next day when I imagined any SD guys reading this thread. :frowning:
