Aircraft thoughts

With talking abt jets and being a lover of flying in BF2 I have a few Q’s

What protection is there for a pilot and his craft??

Do we ave a nitro booster for extra speed??

Will we have certain amounts of fuel??

With saying abt fuel, as we run out of ammo and fuel, how would we
fill these up??, would we have to land on the ground for a few seconds or
will there only be a certain amount of ammo that we can pick up as that
would be excellent. It would stop aircraft from owning to much as it did in
BF2…

I dont see any protection (but in one video, where to aircrafts ramed each other, one survied), but you do get warnings that a missle is lock on, and you can eject from mid air.

I think there is nitro boost, i have see the hornet dash in one of the videos…

i would say no fuel, i dont know how the resuply/repair system is gonna work…perhaps you land on a helo pad and it does the repair and rearm (like BF)…or you need an engineer to repair, and some field ops to rearm…

edit…

ok, no protection…but again you get warnings and you can eject.

no nitro, but you can full speed straight wards…kinda like an airplane.

looks like you have unlimited ammo, but you cannot spam it…kind like overheating.

I think the #1 thing that prevents aircraft from being overpowered is that smg deals visible damage to them. And, unless I’m mistaken, they don’t seem to have hitscan weapons.

You actually think you’ll live long enough in a chopper/hornet to need refueling/restocking?

Wow that was the best quality video I have seen showing flight. That’s a sick physics system I can’t wait to fly one of those! Although it deals some nice firepower from other videos I have seen an infantry guy with a rocket launcher can take them down very easily. From what I have seen the airpower to AA balance looks perfect. Congratulations indeed, I can’t wait for this title.

It looks like one missile strike from a soldier will take about half the health off of an aircraft. Honestly, the way it look at those are kind of like AVRIL launchers from UT 2004 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTER0O9rzWk at about 1m48s), as the aircraft are not centered around forward movement but are more hover-oriented. It won’t be the same scheme as BF2 vehicles IMO. That and small arms do some nice damage.

Exactly… the GDF soldat took out 2 hornets in less than 15 secs. (With a little help from his friends.)

And with some proper deployables, one should not expect to be flying around the map the whole time. (I see that anti-vehicle deployables will track and engage aircraft as well.)

Rock/Paper/Scissors…

I think too many people are making assumptions from playing a different flawed game

(jo90) #10

hello forum,
I hope the aircraft arent to easy to shoot down, as it will make gameplay less interesting especially for troop transporters, perhaps nerfing the bombs so they arent 1 hit kills like bf2 maybe 3 or 4 bombs to kill a tank and having the splash damge quite low so its harder to hit troops

(kamikazee) #11

No, vehicles don’t need promoting.

I know that vehicles can be fun and mass transport can be nifty, but it has been said that objectives need to be done on foot and the distances you need to travel are not that long.

(==Troy==) #12

Quite sure that even with that you will have a chance to have fun in Heli, all depends on your skill and where you actually are flying…

I would rather shoot from far-far away, taking out tank/walkers or spawn kill… But the idea is not to run into the ground fight, where you hardly can kill any trooper, and they will happily “Hey! Flying frag!” take you down in 1-3 shots.

I would really like to know about the manuveurability of the helis, if they can do the loop and some other air combat tricks…

And also consider a usage of helis inside large buildings… :roll:

Wonder if it will be fun to shoot down hornets from titan…

(Ryan) #13

Well, first thing I am going to try is to fly thru the tunnel with a anansi :evil:

(==Troy==) #14

Dont read my mind :lol:

(B0rsuk) #15

Hello forum,
I’d like to point out that those 2 hornets in gameplay video 4/4 behaved quite lame, they just hovered very high without moving much. They’ll be probably much harder to take down if they fly fast and low. It may help some against missiles, but won’t help against small arms.

QFT.

(jo90) #17

hello forum,
The balance of aircraft is indeed difficult you dont want them to be underwhelming like in bf2142 or to overwhelming like bf2, perhaps more complicated AA is needed which gives it fuel and a decision making tool allowing it decide what to lock onto if the pilot releases flares.
Depending on the situation the odds could decrease or increase e.g. if the pilot decides to use the after burner tryin to get away this increases the odds of the missle hitting you, but you maybe able to get it to run out of fuel.

(==Troy==) #18

maps are too small for the rocket to run out of the fuel, it either hits you, or misses and flies into the void.

(jo90) #19

hello forum
why are the maps to small, have you even played the game yet

(ktr) #20

the maps arent small, its perfectly sized (according to videos and leak screen shots). They would be small for planes, but the game does not have any, only helo…with some plane like abilities, so it is perfect for them. watch the GameTrialers gameplay video, you can see there is plenty of space.
