3rd person game like in the trailer (please read)

If I’m not mistaken you can see your own character in the main menu.

I don’t consider that ‘in-game.’ I want to see him run, slide, vault, shoot, jump, kill badguys, etc.

(tokamak) #43

Do you have that same issue with just about any other fps?

No…I can’t customize my guys with clothing, accessories, tattoo’s, scars, etc. in other fps games, so being able to see them is no big deal.

I compare it to playing a roleplaying game, and never being able to see the character you created, other than in menus.

SD could make this options - 1st or 3rd person view … then it’s up to player to choose one.
Why Not ?!

Gears Of War was also at 3 rd person view and I enjoyed the game anyway !
It’s a FPS too , isn’t it ?!

(light_sh4v0r) #46

We have stated more than enough reasons why not to use 3rd person, go read the thread.

(tokamak) #47

Gears of war’s 3rd person had a very clear purpose, to aid in the cover system which the whole game revolved around.

Applying that to Brink would turn it into some kind of Tomb Raider. Bah.

(-iWi-) #48

Actually I prefere the view of 1st person !
but WHY NOT ! the 3rd person if someone like it.
:stroggtapir:

i think this game will be one of the best game this year brink, red dead redemption ,mafia 2

if SD went to Rogue trooper or MGS remake business, they surely do it.
another point to evade TPS in MP is… care about fairplay.
surpisingly.

A Halo-esque Theater mode would eliminate the need for third person ingame, you can watch your guy leaping around afterwards at whatever speed you like + take cool screenshots! But that’s as far as I’m gonna go with that idea, haven’t looked around the forums that much but I’m gonna assume that the ‘Theater Mode’ idea has been done to death a thousand times already…

As for third-person ingame, I dunno…from the cinematic trailer and some of the ingame footage it seems that there are a lot of narrow, closed in areas, and the open areas tend to have a reasonable amount of stuff on the floor…plenty of scope for a badly-implemented third-person view to have the camera getting caught on everything…as for it being cooler, I dunno…as others have said, it’s meant to focus on the shooting, not the parkour, but in my opinion even relatively dedicated parkour games (Mirrors Edge is what I’m thinking) look better first person than they would in third person…third-person Brink / Mirrors Edge would have required master animators to make all the jumping and sliding look seamless.

there is 3rd person view in demo replays, no need for it in game, cameras getting hung up is not a good thing

Sense of Perspective… 3rd person confirmed as a perk

(tokamak) #54

If it’s a perk I’m fine with it. Don’t think I’ll be using it myself but for the people who want to focus on mobillity, melee or simply need a lot of situation awareness it could come in handy.

(H0RSE) #55

that Operative skill only switches to 3rd person when you are sneaking - not all the time.

(Szakalot) #56

Well, QW had 3rd person when you took the deployable tool out. It could be in theory used to look around corners, fortunately the game is too fastfor it to be useful at all

So, in this context a perk-based 3rd person shooter shouldnt affect the game in general much.

And its supposed to be faster than QW anyways.

(BioSnark) #57

the same is not true regarding the vehicles in QW.

tps = meh imo.

(H0RSE) #58

in the new incgamers preview, it says “Sense of Perspective – this offers up a third person view whenever you’re carrying out an objective,” so it may not be an Operative only skill.

I had thought the same thing when I read the first lot of previews. Not something Ive ever used in etqw though.

The latest preview though suggests that you can use it during an objective. Sounds useful for rushing.

Wedgwood’s playing operative in the press demo.
