3D support in ETQW?

(==Troy==) #1

Just wondering, will a 3D split be supported by the game? I mean that the image is splitted into 2 and they both calculated from a bit different points (your eyes) Which, if you wear special glasses with create a true 3D image. (saw IMAX cinemas? same thing here).

It was supported for Q3 engine I think. Completely new experience if you play it that way :slight_smile:

If you own an nvidia gfx card then you can have every 3D game with stereo vision:

Man, I haven’t used those 3D goggles in ages. My old Geforce 256 card had this option, but I guess I can’t play ET:QW with it. :slight_smile:

Wow, my next vid will be NVIDIA, currently on Radeon :). Thanks for the answer! :slight_smile:

(AKA Sneaky) #5

Next thing you know you need a new pair of glasses.

(==Troy==) #6

I have a 3D goggles. I dont have a perfect English :slight_smile:

(murka) #7

crud, now ill stick to nvidia, i got 2 pairs of 3D goggles
P.S. 3D monitor needed? no way then.

(Synck) #8

You need more then blue/red 3D glasses.

You need:
-stereoscopic 3D glasses which work by alternating images displayed to each eye $100
-CRT screen or DLP projector with a minimum refresh rate of 75Hz

howto: http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/04/10/wall_sized_3d_displays/index.html

No, u don’t need a special 3d monitor… these special 3d monitors work without glasses (which is pretty impressive but of lousy quality at the same time).

However, keep in mind that shutter glass systems do not work very well with TFTs… if at all.

I don’t know if nvidia is the only vendor with such a 3D stereo driver… maybe ATI/AMD provides such software, too… maybe it’s just a hidden option in their Catalyst drivers?

(murka) #10

so i must downgrade to a CRT monitor and buy expensive red/blue goggles?
ah thats pointlees then, i dont need it.

(CooperHawkes) #11

You can get red/cyan goggles for less than 50ct… but these are not what we are talking about (though I remember that one of the older nvidia drivers had support for these cheap goggles… I didn’t check if the newer drivers have support for such anaglyph goggles, too).

We are talking about shutter glasses, which are around 100$, often need some extra batteries which are - of course - always empty when u need them the most, and which are giving u headaches if u are using them too long.

Just in case you have way too much money and space: here is a more or less high-end, but still cheap solution:

(kamikazee) #12

In my case, my Asus card supported some special set of goggles which need to be plugged into the card itself.

That way, you are also sure of the synchronization.

(==Troy==) #13

Well, but I must say that the gameplay is awesome in 3D shutter goggles. Completely different from standard.

And LCD or TFT monitors can handle the stereo input, but the refresh rate is quite slow…

(fart666) #14

pointless thread…sorry :?

(CooperHawkes) #15

Yeah, I agree… throwing nades is sooo much more fun. :slight_smile: Aiming needs getting used to though.

Interesting read… and so typical for the driver policy of ATI… that’s why I will stick to nvidia… ATI drivers have been, are, and possibly will be just crap.

EDIT:

pointless comment… sorry :-p

(==Troy==) #16

Oh and Q3 does support stereo imaging, just found on one of the FAQs.

(grizzlybear) #17

saw an article on toms hardware a few month ago about wall size 3d gaming and have been looking for some (and a projector) since :slight_smile:

anybody know where these can be purchased in the uk ???

(Sauron|EFG) #18

The in-game 3D support in the Q3 engine (r_stereo) is broken in some of the Q3 engine games (e.g. ET), though you can still use the nVidia driver.

There are shutter glasses that works with both ATI and nVidia cards, but some may use software that is detected as a cheat by PunkBuster (like an OpenGL wrapper).

I used to have ASUS shutter glasses, but playing at 85/2 = 42.5 Hz gave me a headache in just a few minutes so I threw them away. :stuck_out_tongue:

(MuffinMan) #19

afaik it’s not about nvidia or ati - it’s a directx feature, don’t know about opengl though

(==Troy==) #20

Lol… its basicly a software feature than a hardware one. Just depends on whether you have it installed or not. I am searching for 3d party software of this kind atm.
