14th December Dev Round-Up [Update Info & What The Dickens?]

(Zack) #61

Nah, chances are they will fix the placement system to be a bit more even.
@Zack @RazielWarmonic said every one will be reset to “no rank” (even have to redo the placement matches) every single season. So be prepared to be rolled by unranked “elite/cobalt” 5 stacks every season until every one gets ranked again…

I’d much prefer a reset to the lowest rank in your current tier, keeping the players more evenly matched every season. As it is now, I can only see this rewarding elite players while lesser players get nothing, effectively removing the incentive for non top tier players to play comp over pub.
What I’m saying is I’m Cobalt 1 and in League of Legends you keep your MMR which this game is based off of say you’re Diamond 1 on there which is essentially Cobalt 1 on here because it’s below Challenger/Master and when you play your placement matches for the next season you’ll skip bronze/silver/gold straight to Platinum 5 or whatever.

Nah, cause they even stated that they didn’t expect so many people to be placed into gold. Chances are we will see more players placed into Bronze and Silver if they reset it. I am personally fine with them completely giving it a reset, even if it means the people that are elite/cobalt 1 have to roll people for their placement matches, as long as it means the matches are more fair overall.

Yeah that’s what I’m saying it’s not fun rolling essentially everyone that my team and I came into contact with in MM. Especially if we get put on defence first and we either spawn kill for 15 minutes or we let them finish so we can just end it quicker. To be quite honest I’m a bit happy that I really can’t even get a game on MM without it taking 15 minutes because it was starting to become a joke.

(k_dot) #64

I think after this update the number of players will greatly increase. At least I hope so.

(MilkyBear) #65

I still prefers some game contents tho.

(k_dot) #66

Competitiv gameplay is very important in FPS games. A better ranking system will attract players. I look forward what it will be.

(XavienX) #67

You got break right? RIGHT!?
@ValkyrieHunter32 Gotta study for finals and do chemistry and ap history project yo. Nope, no break for me.

(SereneFlight) #68

…so basically if you have played bunch of competitive, you don’t have to do a shit to get dem trinkets… idk really how to feel about this when it comes to people who haven’t played a whole lot of comptitive or people who haven’t got a whole lot of luck with comp (aka people who don’t have a competent group to play with) since I haven’t really had any desire to play competitive nor do I have any desire.

Anything for us pub drunktards? … … okay, that was a silly question.

(FUNNYBLACKMAN) #69

Yesss…

I can’t believe Ainsley is 50.

(THE_PRESIDENT) #71

you must have a lot of time in your hands to be able to get that snowguy

(Aazhyd) #72

Too bad no new maps.

What about existing maps, but with snow and christmas ornaments? Encountering a snowman on Chapel, seeing reindeers on Trainyard?

(Faraleth) #73

To clarify a few FAQ’s I’ve seen here and on reddit:

 1. We’re CURRENTLY in pre-season and ranks will not be reset until season 1 starts. This will be some time in 2016.
 2. Pre-season ranked rewards will be given at the END of the pre-season (ie. just before season 1 starts).
 3. Yes, the trinket hunt event requires 60 hours total to get all 3. It is 3 + 12 + 45.
 4. To obtain the coal, lantern or snowman trinket the total time counts for only being IN actual matches. Menu idling or private matches do NOT count.
 5. While there are no new maps in the next update - it is a widely known fact there is at least 1 blockout map in the works. These will likely be play-tested before we see any releases.
 6. The next merc will not be until 2016.

(Potato_Ladder) #74

Rewards for playing competitive with upgraded matchmaking? HELL YEAH !!! Looking forward to comp matches in Asia already :stuck_out_tongue:

Guess the time for Christmas trinket accumulate as you play, good to know

Thanks for the round up @Faraleth and the devs and community managers for a bit of info on what’s coming in the next patch

(Aazhyd) #75

I might try competitive now. Never done that before.

(yenku) #76

60 in match hours! That’s for who have totally nothing else to do during these days, that is not a bad thing. yesss finally some relax.

However lucky me I don’t like these Trinkets, maybe the lantern a bit.
I’m now curious about themed skins/loadouts.

Thanks @Faraleth for the post  - Was waiting for it.

(Lumi) #77

@Lumi dude, there is a whole list of other things there. You’re picking out some tiny comp rewards and extra cosmetics against the rest of the large improvements?
Talking about large improvements is stretching it…
Whatever criticism you may be trying to come up with is honestly pretty ridiculous, this is the exact sort of thing we have been asking for. An improved Competitive mode and a reason to play it, it’s exactly what we ordered. Stop being such a pessimist, at least until the update comes out.
If you’re happy with it, good for you. On my behalf, I believe there are many other areas that would need the teams resources being focussed on other than “trinkets”. Considering the fact of trinkets bringing people into comp, I believe you’re being too optimistic, borderline delusional. I for one think it’s such a minute thing that it will not call me to comp. Furthermore, the addition of friendly fire in comp will add an additional strong barrier for many players to not go play comp. So for whatever improvements you see, I just see a lot of smoke and “tadaa effects” with some trinkets added to the mix. Definitely nothing to get hyped for, but more worried instead. If DB is starting to come up with more ideas to generate money instead of fixing/improving the game before it is even finished, that’s when you got to start noticing the wind change and worry about the sinking ship.

Well, the stream round-ups don’t exactly have the full patch notes in them…

We’ll have to wait and see. Trinkets and stuff like that are still a big step forwards in terms of potential monetization.
Good for SD and Nexon. But for the player it doesn’t bring anything else than another window for “has” and “has not” mechanics instead of actual game/gameplay progress and fixes. It’s like a filthy supermarket announcing that they now sell additional brands, while the appalling state of the store is not even addressed at all…

@Faraleth do you keep the trinkets after the event end? Or they disappear?

@DMaster2 oh you DEFINITELY keep them! They are permanent little goodies for you to have ^.^

(MarsRover) #80

How will ranked trinkets work? I’m assuming we keep the preseason one forever. But will each season have new different looking trinkets to keep forever, or trinkets will stay the same and will reset each season, so you will only have a trinket you got for last reason rank?
