edit: I had a response to that but your e-penis is obviously bigger than mine so… I’ll be sure not to cross you again o knowledgeable one
11.6 ati drivers are out and...
Now back on topic, I will say these drivers did absolutely nothing for me performance wise on Brink. Its alright, the game is dead anyways.
i just played several matches. there are plenty full servers with good ping, and its almost midnight here where i live. what exactly is your definition of dead then?
game still runs like a piece of garbage for lots of ati users, including me, but it certainly isnt “dead”.
NO e-penis here, just hate people talking out of there ass.

Well as of right now, based on steam numbers, there are a total of 375 people playing. The peak today is 1556 from the peak of 17k a month ago, yes one month. Id say put a fork in it, its done.

Me too, which is why I didn’t.

even if you take the 375 current players and divide it by 16 you still have 22 full servers. do you want to play on more than one server simultaniously?
tbh I’m having trouble finding a server to play on cos they’re all full
I’m in the UK, I set my filters to 6 players min, ping < 100, and at peak time in the evening I get about 40 servers, almost all of which are 16/16.
What I will say tho is I’m spending less time playing. If I really like a game I’ll think nothing of playing for 4 or 5 hours straight. With Brink I can usually only manage a map or 2. A game tends to be either rolling the other team with little resistance, which isn’t fun, or getting held up on the first objective and not getting anywhere, which isn’t fun either.
And with no-one talking on VOIP (cos the default settings are wrong), no-one talking in chat (cos there isn’t any between rounds) and no vsays, the game has no personality, no “humanity”, might as well be playing with bots
anyone find 11.6 crashes brink? i just get a crash to desktop about every 30 mins.
Seems OK here, but I only played about 90 minutes last night after installing 11.6.
I took some screenies before updating drivers, and after, at the same spots on the same maps on the same server (mine, which was empty), to measure the difference in FPS these drivers gave me.
The result? Zero difference, which I was quite surprised at, as in the difference was exactly zero, not a few FPS more or a few FPS less, but exactly the same FPS as before (previously I was on 11.5, but I’ve tried every driver from 10.8 upwards).
I’m having trouble playing for longer periods because the game has so many aspects that frustrate me, but I’ll maybe have a longer session at the weekend and see if these drivers are less stable than previous ones.
I’ll give brink one more try with this new DLC. I’m not sure if there’s supposed to be another patch by that time but if I still can’t play it then I’ll be done with this game for good. It’s already been a month and nobody will man up and take blame for this ATI problem. It really shows that they care about their community.
I tried them yesterday; seemed like a decent performance increase over 11.5, and similar performance to 11.2. However, 11.6 drivers caused Brink to crash (lockup w/sound loop) after extended playing multiple times yesterday, prompting me to go back to 11.2 drivers.
I am running an i5 2500k @4.4GHz, 8G DDR3, and a Sapphire HD 5850. Using 11.2 drivers I can play with antialiasing at 4x, anisotropy at 8x, motion blur and hq postprocessing on, 1920x1080, and get about 40-150 fps. On most maps it’s at 60+ fps, but sectow runs slower as do some areas on certain maps with dips down to as low as 35 fps during fighting. When I turn off AA, AF, shadows, etc., the game runs closer to 70+ fps with no dips below 50.
Not bad, but still nowhere near where it should be compared to nvidia cards’ performance in this game. The game is playable for sure and looks good, but the instability of the framerate leads me to believe alot of optimization can still be done for drivers.
I’m a bit late into this thread but I was about to copy Ender’s config but noticed he’s played on 1280 res. Do you have a small monitor or you just set it to that for best performance?
I’m never really interested in max FPS or average…for me the most important is the minimum and it seems everyone with ATI cards gets a v loooooow min FPS.
Even when the frames are high, the character movement is too choppy.
Having said all that, I really enjoyed Brink for a month but I just don’t have much desire to play now, which is a shame.
Hi guys, on the twitter for “catalyst creator” he says there is no BRINK fix and that they are still looking into it for 11.7.
Brink - we’re still looking at it, but nothing new to report. Higher resolution (2560x1600) AMD 6970 scores look decent to me…
dated the 14th.
11.7 is in one month yeh
and i’m about to be sure that there will be no change at all … i’ve almost given up on playing that game already.
YES. 11.6 is as good as 11.2 or better performance-wise on my 2500k w/ 5850, but crashes alot. 11.2 drivers are nearly as good (less overall fps but more stable) and do not crash at all on my machine.
ok. after playing a few hours now with 11.6 i can confirm that there are more ctd’s than before. i used the modified driver from guru3d before.
usually it happens when i quit a game. i see the server browser for a second and then im back on my desktop.
its getting really pathetic sadly.
i remember when i played mmo’s and warhammer online was just released. they also had ctd issues and a statement from one of the devs was that ctd’s are priority one to fix. ctd’s are a no go. theres nothing worse i guess than ctd’s.

Well I beta he plays on a NASA computer as someone once sayd here on the foruns the fact is that the majority of us have decent pcs and bad fps. With NASA computers I bet the perfomance would increase wich is kinda obvious.
Several hours worth of gaming on 11.6 drivers and not a single crash, however performance is no different from 11.5, suggest anyone with issues with 11.6 stick with 11.5 or whatever driver currently gives you best performance.

Do you have r_useThreadedRenderer 2 ? because I had this problem when I had it set to 2. But when I put it back to default I got no more crashes.
yes, thanks. i changed it back to 0 and the game apparently doestn crash when i go back to the server browser.
