First, the HD5770 is not a great card, second, Brink is very CPU dependent, what CPU do you have ?
FWIW I have a HD4890 (which is a better card than the 5770 despite being a lower number) and a triple core CPU (AMD Phenom II X3) and get 60-80 FPS mostly. It can sometimes drop to 45-ish, but often rises to 100+ in some places.
I’ve tried about a dozen different drivers for my GPU, tried loads of different config settings, and even overclocked the card, nothing made much difference.
I applied a 10% overclock to my CPU (the BIOS on my motherboard has an option to do it automatically to save messing about with memory timings and voltages etc.) and that made about 10% difference to my FPS.
The thing is, even at a steady 60 - 80 FPS, the game is still choppy. I think it’s the idTech4 engine, ET:QW was the same for me. It’s playable, but against silky smooth engines like idTech3, Frostbite and Source idTech4 is poor and probably always will be.
(tl:dr - it’s not an ATi problem, or anything SD can fix, it’s a ****ty CPU heavy engine, unless you’re prepared to throw significantly more grunt at it, you’re stuck with the performance you have)
My pc is fine and I run other idtech4 games fine. That stuttering in quake wars is due to punk buster, which can be fixed through a console command. The problem lies in brink, not idtech 4. Even at everything forced low through the config tool the game still has erratic drops.
Again, I’m able to play heavier games than brink and still get a better frame rate with my 5770.
