Z_Malloc error (Client)

(vnt) #1

Hi,
Since the release of the new ET 2.60 patch and new ETPro I am receiving errors in the console every 20 minutes about a Z_Malloc overload and I have to reconnect to the server.

There was another thread posted about this elsewhere but no real fix and it was server side. My problem is client side.

I was wondering if anyone else was having similar problems and if you can recommend anything?

PC Specs:
Athlon XP 2500+
512MB RAM
Radeon 9600 256MB
Epox Mobo

Thanks,
vNt.

hhmmmm no not really. It seams to be a memory problem, I think. What is the memory status on your computer when this occurs? Do you have any other applications running?

Does the error message say anything more?

The error message is
Z_malloc failled on allocation of 88 bytes to the small sector

The page file usage is at 456MB of a possible 2016MB, ET is using up about 178,488K with the second largest memory usage at 24,080 K which is explorer.exe.
There is nothing that I nor a few spyware programs can see that is taking up memory else where.

When my PC was set up they changed the virtual memory paging file size to 1536 rather than 512, could that be affecting it?

Well, I don’t know what to tell you. This could be a bug in ET.

If you start your computer, with out starting any other applications than ET. Then you run it untill it crashes, what is the total memory usage and peak memory usage that you can see in the Windows Task Manager?

Does this always occur on the same map or is the client swiching between maps?

I think sys-soft sandra has some diagnostics to check your ram for problems, you could try that.
I did a quick look around the net, and it seems like it might have something to do with your com_zonemegs, google around and you’ll probably find the answer.
