Your PC Specs - For Custom Help

(Rhammstein) #61

My new PC, the specs are in my Signature. Here is my second PC, which I just upgraded from, but still use, actually running a server off it atm.

Athlon64 X2 6400+ Black Edition @ 3.5Ghz | 4GB DDR2 1066 Dual Channel | XFX Radeon 4890 950core/1025mem | Vista Home Premium x64 | Ubuntu

I loved the Gpu so much I got another for my new rig. I plan to grab a 5870 mid summer. Meanwhile I was able to get the same overclocks that TomsHardware.com did with these 4890’s. People really think it’s just an overclocked 4870, but they really did optimize them to be able to handle some serious overclocks. I admit they get pretty hot, well in the old rig, that one does, not the best case, it’s an Acer OEM case.

The new rig I’m using a Xclio A380Plus. I just built it, I haven’t messed with it yet, but I intend on slightly overclocking the Cpu. It’s only 95 watts, which is the reason I bought it, uses a lot less power and runs very cool. This will hold me back, but I’ll be happy at 3.0-3.2Ghz. We’ll see what I can get away with.

Maybe for aim yes. I just tried it and it annoyed the hell out of me - everything around me moved sooooo slow now so that when I ran it seemed like i was walking… Don’t know if I’ll ever be able to swith to 90 because of that. Also for example, while speccing Murka (he has 90) recently with 110 fov I was noticing some enemies appearing from aside that he didn’t notice fast enough, but with fov 110 I saw them well in advance from his pov… Well, I guess I’ll stay with 110

Well, that should make tracking a lot easier, no?

I’m not saying that an increased fov won’t give you an advantage there, but speccing someone is simply something different than actually playing. If you watch one of your own demos, you’ll probably notice a lot of things that you didn’t see while playing too, no matter the fov. At least that’s what happens when i watch my own demos.

To me, fov 110 puts targets I’d normally attempt to take down upscoped at a distance that forces me to scope in order to have a better view of my opponent. Which, in turn, turns me into a more stationary target and I came to detest that. The sense of slowness, that I experienced at first after going from 110 to 90, disappeared after a few hours. Since that time (head)shotpercentages have gone up.

90 is perfectly playable, as long as you cover your angles a little more dilligently and watch your radar. And, like Tanz said, speccing someone is completely different from playing yourself.

Back to original topic, from some programme i used it says i have:

Windows XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 3
3.00 gigahertz Intel Pentium D
16 kilobyte primary memory cache
2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache
2048 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory
XFX ATI Radeon HD 4850

I run 800x600 on lowest tweaked settings possible (without Traytools ofc :P)
Hopefully getting a new pc ready for brink though

Dont know much at all about pc specs but hope its useful in some way…

EDIT: @ fov discussion, i like to use fov of 105 as i do find fov 90 really strange with the speed, but i suppose if i played with it all the time i would get used to it easily.

(system) #66

iNtel duocore 2,4
2 GB Ram
Geforce 7300 something mega cheap
I can asure you, my pc combination cannot handle brink
I will stay an quake 3 engine freak forever :stuck_out_tongue:

Most probably yes, that’s why I actually raised the fov discussion, since it worried me whether higher fov gives tracking disadvantage.

It is different but not to such extent, I’d say. Murka has an excellent surrounding awareness and a couple of times there was no way he wouldn’t notice the enemy had he fov 110. I am 100% sure that was the fov difference that made him not see the foes. But hey, that’s apparent and always was the primary reason for peeps to have higher fovs.

Hmmm, maybe I should give it a longer try… But it is actually soooo excruciating to “walk” all the time :frowning:
And it’s not that I want my accuracy boosted that much, but rather simply want to know the answer to the possible existence of that difference of accuracy between the fovs. Should start with 90 at Brink, yeah. :stroggtapir:

What is the standard FOV? For ET, and ETQW? I’ve never adjusted this setting in any game, although the few I’ve had a problem with were always issues with FOV, I just couldn’t adjust it. Some games I feel like it’s zoomed in a bit, is this the higher FOV? I very much defer that feeling. I like my point of view to feel and look natural. Far Cry 2 I didn’t like, drove me nuts but I got used to it. But ET and ETQW are “perfect”, whatever they’re set at is what I like, thus why I ask. Thanks for any reply. I guess I could check wiki as well. But I’d prefer a perspective from you “gamers”.

(Dthy) #70

The Standard FOV is 90 i think, not sure since i’ve been using 105 since i started xD

(Nail) #71

default fov is 90

(timestart) #72

90 is default in ET/ETQW. Lower FOV = more zoomed in.

I have just upgraded to a GTS 250

the 9800 GT 1GB version is on ebay @ http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170480394303&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

(fzl) #74

about fov discussion…

90 is better for aim … 110 is better for movement…im a high-sens player and i use both fovs

bind “PGUP” “seta g_fov 110;sensitivity 3.2” “” “default”
bind “PGDN” “seta g_fov 90;sensitivity 4.0” “” “default”

any player use other specifications…

but 110 is my favorite fov since quake 3 in 1999…

greetz fzl…
