Your idea of a perfect map

(redbeardraven) #1

I know that the majority, if not all, of the maps in this game will be consisted from the maps in single player. I also have the feeling that their will be updates from Splash Damage, if not the community, for new maps and other mods. I wanted to know, out of the box, what type of map(s) are you looking forward to the most while playing online or solo.

Being that this will be a class based objective oriented I assume that each map will have multiple “checkpoints/benchmark” locations or objectives to completing the full round. With that said, what I am looking forward to the most in the maps or my ideal map would be consisted of multiple paths with at least 3 levels or tiers to traverse the map freely. I do not want the map to be linear, but more open ended sandbox with the opposition striving for the goals at the same pace. I am thinking of a rural area with multiple huts/homes/buildings and underground tunnels along with static obstacles on all 3 tiers for hiding or just for interesting moving with SMART technology. A top tier for snipers and runners, middle ground for heavy weapons or medics, and the lower level for infantry/infiltrators. Dead ends would be welcome along with looping passages for set up or feints. I would play this kind of map all the time.

Any other ideas/suggestions of what you want? Maybe Splash Damage could use this as a takeaway for future installments so post your thoughts!

I wana blow up an oil rig.

One with alternative spawn locations and capturable spawns, that make things interesting like Radar, oh wait…

(Brink) #4

one with a tapir statue! :stroggtapir: All hail the tapir:)

Seems like request for map with alternate routes to objective is subject to infraction, mkay. Honestly, most maps look alike because of the linearity. Alternate routes is a good idea.

Yeah, apparently wanting a map that plays as good as Radar is trolling…

Guys, feedback on moderator actions should be sent to one of the moderators by way of a private message.

I’m gonna agree with Chris here, a map that allows for multiple strategies for both teams.

A hands on preview highlighted that bots were using multiple routes in maps to try and break the defense. I did a write-up on the article here

A map where both teams have strikes and counterstrikes.
So no just team A attacks , team B does defense 20 minutes long.
Alternate it a bit between teams in the same map.

In other words:
Role reversal at least once in 20 minutes.
I am unaware if any other games include this.

It seems like the conclusive answer is free roam or open ended terrain for multiple “capture points” or defense zones. What is it that you are looking forward to aesthetically or strategically? Open room/courtyard with pillars for quick pot shots, narrow hallways for push/defense tactics, highrise walkways for easy mobility but open to the hurt? Do you want multiple tiers of terrain or just one flat surface for flat out war?

I want several tapirs in each map, like easter eggs that you can look for. You can receive a special playable fun level where you can shoot tapirs if you collected anough tapir eggs that are all hidden in all the levels!

A map that is simple, yet fun. From my experience, simplicity seems underrated these days. It’s great to have different concepts, like dynamic objectives but it’s always great the have a map that people just get into and enjoy it and not get lost in it.

Variation is important, large levels, mid-range levels and small levels all should be in!

I always liked the Dual Obj maps from RTCW.

mp_marketgarden was great. Multiple paths to the objective, both teams on offense and defense. Had some great matches on that map.

I was a fan of those as well. Wizerness and Bridge were awesome… but a lot of potential for full hold rounds cos no one’s budging from defence.

I still can’t get on the name of that Wolf (and ET) map with fences on a beach.

Check some 1944 things in particular…

Supplydepot was the best ET map, period. But I always enjoyed Gold Rush, Fuel Depot, Special Delivery and many others as well. The RtCW ported maps were always fun for heavy infantry fighting…

Oh thanks, that’s a ton of work to go through them all, but it definitely digs up memories!

Makes me wonder, why didn’t SD add Marketgarden to the W:ET official map pack? It’s their map isn’t it? Also funny if you live there as you recognise the compressed miniature version of what’s supposed to be your home town
