Your favourite non-objective game mode

(tokamak) #1

Right now SD is working on tailoring their maps to make them suitable for non-objective game modes. IE, the map can be played in it’s entirety, has no singular direction and nothing to fight over.

Non objective game modes are

Team-Deathmatch:
Two teams compete in trying to reach the highest body count within a set kill or time limit. This is the most popular COD game mode.

Team-Survival
Two teams try to eliminate each other with every player having one life. Last team standing wins. Usually several rounds (often 10) are being fought. Team with the most rounds wins the match. This is the most popular CS game mode.

There are more exotic team games, Gears of War has some really nice spins on team based modes (guardian and VIP and such) and also more individual oriented game modes (DM, survival, bottom feeder etc) but as DB has lots of team interaction they may not be as suitable. If people want individual game modes then say so and we open another poll.

I really like Conquest Mode.

As of now we lack a wide variety of tools that would help to make an elimination mode enjoyable imo. Plus the movement speed is quite high and you cannot properly use obstacles as cover, as you would do in CS.
In DB you can just jump and shoot and will still hit ppl hiding behind a car or something. With DBs’ game mechanics I cannot imagine an enjoyable elimination mode.
However a TDM or even FFA would be really welcome, as you can pracc the maps and your aim without punishment via respawn times.

Maybe we might think of some nice additions. CSGO for instance has some enhanced point system in TDM. All 2 minutes(?) you get the option to choose a weapon, which is randomly selected, to get extra pointswith this. With this method you can enforce the use of all guns in TDM mode. So maybe a similiar system might be worth to think of.

I firmly feel that a game of this type would only benefit from additional game modes if the main game wasn’t good enough. CoD stylee - mask the lack of depth and balance with layer upon layer of fluff. Having said that, tdm and king of the hill can be fun (although the current objective and stopwatch modes are filling all my tdm needs  )

Elimination sucks balls.

True, TDM and TS maps have different requirements indeed. It’s easier to play TDM in maps meant for TS than the other way around. That’s why I think this poll is relevant right now. It’s useful to know the community’s preferences before you start working on the current maps for non-objective modes.

There are several modes that carry that name and they’re all objective modes.

Team survival games can be pretty tense. I never had that feeling with tdm.

Sounds interesting but I’m not sure if it works. Without objects and taking away respawn the class based system will collapse because the team only need medics (health) and fieldsops (ammo) to survive, all other classes will become redundant especially with a low count of players

Last man standing has always been an exciting and fun mode in my book.

(BomBaKlaK) #9

hehe ! that’s the mod I always hate … :stuck_out_tongue:
but why not cause it’s really easy to implement

(tokamak) #10

Yeah we can do another poll for solo-oriented game modes.

(Jamieson) #11

LMS can also be a team mode too, in fact team survival was referred to as LMS in Wolf ET.

Royal mode - Shootmania -> great fun

[STRIKE]I thought team last man standing is what tokamak is calling team survival?[/STRIKE]

EDIT: Nevermind, you’re saying the same thing

To clarify, we already have TDM, and the maps we have are repurposed areas from other levels - smaller sections, with a different spawn point selection method. We pulled the servers recently.

I’d like to try elimination too (gears warzone style). Simple rule change - TDM, no respawns. They’d be some quick matches  I’d also like to try FFA.

Also capture and hold/domination is incredibly possible.

What other modes would you like to try? CTF? KotH? VIP/team regicide type thing?

(Mustang) #15

It’s been mentioned a few times but Base Race and Gun Game would be good to add.

Any mode that doesn’t have respawn is a big no no from me.

The most pop mode in CS is demolition. Its quite different than LMS/elimination type mode. Quite different indeed. Its not just LMS + objective. Its really objective first, LMS second with evolving rounds based on what weapons your purchase and how well you perform and if you win each round. Those details are very important in the mode and why its successful.

If you’re doing FFA, please change it to a non-class based system with weapon pickups, powerups, heals etc. That’d be pretty cool.

I made a thread earlier detailing a domination mode which is sorta like conquest but more of an arena type map. Its a good 10-15 min mode to have.

I remember that I really enjoyed the VIP scenarious from old CS. That might be something to look into for DB?

(Protekt1) #18

Chippy, you mean escort? They have that in each CS version.

KotH sound interesting …

I might be Protekt. I only remember it from 1.3-1.5 when I actually played CS somewhat actively. A VIP person had to be escorted to a certain place on a map. The other team obviously had to take him down. Could maybe be spised up with the “stoppers” being able to barricade certain routes or something along those lines.

Just a thought!
