Your Favourite Map

I wanted to clarify one thing I said about hacking above.
The first part of Terminal is the best example I can think of where it is balanced. Why? I think because the defense has an equally long trip to the objective. Also, the offense can set up a spawn camp to slow down defenders using the upper route by the baggage return area. The offense can enter from the left, right, and even behind the objective if they scoot across the upper conveyor belt. In short, the defense can’t look all in one direction to defend the objective and the offense can take over the hack room forcing the defense to have to assault the room to defuse the hack.

I like resort best because it feels like an actual place.
Granted, the other maps in Brink are all pretty decent at not making you feel like you’re on an artificial battle stage, but Resort does it best in my opinion. It also does not remind me of any map in any shooter I have ever played which I like a lot.

I’d like to extend a big cheers towards the level designers and environment artists that worked on Brink - In my opinion the levels are gorgeous! They look really cool, are something new and most of them offer so many alternative routes to be explored that many a shooter pales in comparison.

Resort is such an inconvenient place to fight. My mind still needs to warp itself around the organic shapes, it’s like fighting in someone’s earlobe.

Container City Reactor and Resort are my favorite maps in that order. Ship yard and Reactor are the best LOOKING maps. But Container City and Reactor are epic contests!

(MetroidCommando) #65

Resort, I just love the environment, going around shops and restaurants ducking for cover and advancing down that artificial river as the Resistance. So cool
Security Tower because it’s the only one that actually utilises the entire map. It’s Brink’s Goldrush, the way you need to interpret your locations constantly change depending on the phase of the map. Then there’s the huge diversity between scales of combat, one moment it’s really compact and claustrophobic the other moment it’s really wide and happening at a long range.

It also caters the best to all body-types. Even heavies get a lot of vertical freedom with the stacked furniture.

Doesn’t mean it could still use some tweaking but it’s definitely the best thing.
For me resort is the best looking map and it have a great envoirment and feel too. But its a unbalanced map security wns almost all the time, if they can detonate the pillar im suprised, wich is a shame because you dont get to see the good looking part of the map : )

Im terms of balance the less unbalanced map for me its aquarium.

why? i think aqarium is one of the most balanced actually. attackers actually win, which is very rare sometimes. i never saw spawn raping here either.

Read his post again

(crazyfoolish) #70

yeah aquarium is the best balanced map.

Been thinking a bit about Refuel.
I think the map would be much more fun and also doable for attack if all objectives were available at the same time. There’s no logical order in them anyway, repairing a fuelpump or hacking crane controls can easily be done while blowing a door for some hydraulic fluid. That would make the map more open, attracting attention away from just the door. It would also stimulate coordination from both teams. Might not work in pubs, but with 2 proper teams it’d make for an interesting map I think.

right, got it. too early to read …

Container City definitely gets my vote.

I always make sure to be on Resistance and, 9 times out of 10, we can just spawn camp Security the entire time.

Seriously, i think some people vote for maps for wrong reasons, might be me tho.

(Humate) #75

Whats fantastic about that map, are the ****load of containers you cant actually use. Pretty SMART. Better yet, the decision to not have multiple spawn points. That would just confuse everyone.

(Dopaminergic) #76

I always vote map so that I end up being on defense.

I am no masochist.

It’s not that I don’t like challenge; I do. I just don’t like to try to accomplish the impossible.

(light_sh4v0r) #77

So it’s a good map if you get a free rape ticket?

(Seiniyta) #78

I voted Container City for it’s aesthics, and I so far I seem to have been lucky to not been spawncamped to death  (hi light_sh4v0r by the way). It would be awesome to climb really on top of all the containers, and maybe have (in a what if scenario of the previous map?) to have the transmitter being broken and the carrier needs to bring it to the helicopter high on top of the room (long route for med/heavies, short route for lights of course)

Refuel, Resort, Reactor, Container City & Security Tower. Love playing those maps on offense and defense. Container City needs some tweaking. Refuel is awesome when I have sound. The others are excellent as is.
